Captain Idaho

I'm very sorry to hear you won't be there Levett I hope you recover soon. Is it very serious?

I've very nearly finished painting my Doublewing. Just an apothecary arm for a terminator to swap and then deciding if I should do anything else to my Belial conversion. Also wondering whether to add squad markings and iconography. I tend to swap models back and forth between squads which always puts me off doing things like that. I should really repaint some of the bikes too.

Anyway here's a pic of them in their current state.

I hope you like the look of them.

Levett: Like wise sorry hear your unwell & not able to make it to the GT. Also as said by PM might be best trying warseer (tournament/event get more reply), heresy on-line, warhammer.org.uk for reason selling the ticket. Might get more from there.

Darkangeldentist: Your army looking cool, very small force but will pack a punch. With squad marking it up to yourself. For me I put them on my IW more so, so there no confusion between myself & oppent. Amount of times that 30 Ork mob seem to get a extra ten boyz while another 20 boyz seem to become a mere 10 boyz or even the odd loot added in by mistake.

Also new GT FAQ should hopeful fix everthing to do with 5th Ed. Just one for heat 1 had a little bit of lag over from 4th Ed.

Good luck to all those going to Heat 2, want to see some good photos of the event of the cool armies & look forward to seeing some reports.

Thanks for the comment Insane Psychopath. With a larger force I'd add the markings to help separate the squads. However I'll be adding a little paint marker on the back of the base so there won't be any confusion. It's easy with a small army like mine anyway.

Small...it's tiny! :P Only my deathwing lists get any smaller (lowest model count for 1500pts was 15) but they all seem to do ok in general games. Not faced enough Orks, eldar or chaos though. I need to get some more game.

Tau are competitive like hell my friend. They got a Hammerhead with a weapon str6 large blast that never miss,to dont mention the AV 13 and always 4+ cover save it got

now think of 3 Hammerheads shooting wow impresive no?2 squads of fire warriors in Devilfish can rush for the objectives and a Carnivore squad to annoy and harass your Battle plan.Yes maybe the suits are ineffective now days but the rest of the army rocks

wow i really want to know what the DA player was taking to get 2nd,

also didn't think tau where competative anymore.

Darkangeldentist who posted above me (or two) is the person who came 2nd in Heat 2, check out the Dark Angels area

Tau bit.... well when the new Marine codex was coming out, a lot people moan Dark/Blood Angels would not be so great.... guess the result sheet show them. By this I mean, as long as the person know there army then they can do alright ^_^ Also coem to luck of the draw as we all have our nemisies (sp) army out there (mine being Mech Tau).

I would like that answered in reverse! While I find Tau to be great at offensive firepower, their infantry are so fragile and have to close the enemy (which is not what they want to do!) that I think they struggle in objective taking games.

Seriously, someone explain how Tau do well! I have never lost a game to Tau in any version of their Codex or game. Had a couple draws but never lost.

Tau are a rather difficult army to use. They can't afford to get stuck in combat and have no really durable fighters. Kroot can fight but are very fragile.

The main reason Tau do so well I think is because most tournament lists tend to go rather heavy on the elites. Tau specialise in being able to take out any one or two units in an enemy army. Tau have excellent shooting with a main battle tank that is ideal for killing other tanks or devastating hordes. Their elites can focus fire where-ever they please and can be very difficult to take down with shooting or combat. Heavily mechanised infantry or kroot provides flexible troop options and both have distinct uses.

The Tau player that won fielded 3 railheads a devilfish or two with fire warriors inside a lot of suits with unique equipement setups plus drones and a couple of large units of outflanking kroot. With the terrain up at the GT generally providing cover but not blocking line of sight his tanks could target just about anything on the table.

Disruption pods have quickly become a real bugbear for anyone trying to shoot down a Tau tank as they are one of the best bargains out there. Finally marker lights can strip away cover saves or increase the chances of pinning meaning just a couple of marker hits can change the situation completely. (He may well have had the odd marker drone but I didn't get the best look at his army.)

I'm like Captain Idaho and don't tend to have any problems fighting Tau using my marines. A couple of years ago when I was using nids though they were annoying as could be and a real struggle to beat. To beat Tau you need to be able to outmanoeuvre him and limit his options. Practised Tau generals tend to spot when you're trying to do this can avoid it whilst the less experienced get trapped and killed.

what is it that makes people think they are not competitive anymore?

 to those who think Tau are not competitve, it much like a lot people said D/B Angles would be rubbish when the new codex marine came out (which Dakangledentist has proven to us all DA can still kick it out) don't mean anything bad by this, but just found it funny that all, as the saying gose never judge a book by it cover, come down to luck, skill & what army the person fight & mission, lot good player who know there armies can fall down sometime. But also note Space Marines have still to find there feet & by Heat 3 to the Finials we should see some doing really great & as said it depend the person useing them.

I think the reason might been with the new tank rule update, like wise with Mech Eldar a lot people though they would get rubbish since they suffer both glance & pen hit. But both seem to have done alright. Tau army winning Heat 2.

Again just come down how people use them & how you counter them.

For me, Tau will alway be my bane army but since I am fighting a bit more Tau player (not once per year/event only) I am learning better how to deal with them :( Nidzilla be my second bane army (was out played by a really good gamer that a tournament on Sat there, was scary but still fought on).

But yes again I think it just how people though of the new tank rules. But they seem to still be standing strong along with Mech Eldar, just needed a little change like more kroot, etc...

turelhim vampire: Thanks ;) His (Paul Scott) Death Guard army got a greater Daemon model/conversion base on the Gaint for WFB, the WIP models I seen so far are pretty cool. Been wind him up all week about the conversion saying it base on him.

Good luck to everone going to GT Heat 3 for the weekend, as said, look forward to a cool report & photos of the event.

I am getting nervous now it's only a day and half away, being my first tourney and all that.

I still have a tactical squad and my objective markers to finish off too. :)

Should be done in plenty of time, I hope.

I would not worry, once your there having your first game & getting a few pint from bugman bar all should be fine

With painting... is it the GT after all & it not a proper GT unless you painting a few days before the event, it the un-writen law of the GT (sort fight club style) :HQ:

Again good luck Turelhim vampire with the Salamander.
