Anyone else travelling up today? I'm catching the train in about an hours time and staying at a Trevelodge overnight as I hate travelling by coach/bus (it's the only time I get travel sick :D) .

Maybe I'll bump into some of you guys tomorrow.

unlucky lestat.. i live like 5 seconds away from the nec

the scrap daemon is pretty much "make something cool out of a load of sprues and stuff." which translates into "barely glue a load of useful bits together whilst pocketing the rest and take home your bounty at the end of the day" unless you get there late.. then its make something out of offcuts of sprue and left hands.

Now thats a long day! Glad I decided to travel up from Hampshire the day before - that long on a coach would be like a living hell for me!

I got back from Games Day about 3pm, having seen all i needed to see.

There was a (nearly) full size drop pod outside which was pretty cool

The first thing we did was head to the sales section at the back of the arena, to grab a copy of Nocturne, and then get some Forge World stuff. There was NO queue system meaning it was just a giant mob of people slowly pushing to the counter when you get chance, and people who had been served coming back out! It was a complete nightmare!

I managed to get my Relic Contemptor and Boarding Captain, but one of the major problems with no queue system was when people got the the front, some of them stood there for ages filling an order form in, causing more chaos. Next year they need barriers, and an order point at one end. I sent the wife to queue at the tills with Nocturne while i waited at Forge World - 45 mins later when i finally got to the counter she was still in the till queues, which went right around the wall of the sales area LOL!

By the time we came out of the Sales area, there was a MASSIVE queue just to get in there, and this was only about 10:45!

Met Nick Kyme and got him to sign Nocturne - what a smashing bloke he is, he was very friendly and enjoyed chatting to him

Some great entries in Golden Demon, saw plenty of Contemptors and quite a few Grey Knight Dreadknights. The Young Bloods section had some amazing mini's on display, wish i could paint to that level when i was a kid

All in all, a good day out, my only complaint is the large amount of Games Day attendees who ignore personal hygiene. Nurgle would have had a field day today.

++End report++

I arrived at Games day and headed straight for the sales area. 10 minutes later (after jostling through the crowds), I was at the back of the queue I ended up queing for an hour and a half just to get in the sales area. Thankfully I had made a Forgeworld preorder and picked that up on the way in - it was mainly the Black Library books I wanted (although I did go and drop another 30 quid on the Deimos Rhino :o )

I managed to pick up Salvations Reach, The Outcast Dead and the Games Day Anthology which I went around getting as many authors as I could to sign it. The only 2 I couldn't were Graham McNeil and William King :) . I did get to meet Dan Abnett, Sandy Mitchell, Jon Blanche and Gav Thorpe - all really great guys.

Got to agree with Cyrox though - there were many Nurgle worshippers in the queues. The severe lack of personal hygeine gave them away. Next year, they might want to invest in a can of Ordos sanctioned Anti-Perspirant (which also doubles as an emergency flamer) available from your local Ecclesiarchy funded chemists.

The Mob was a health hazard, as was letting it gather at the bottom of the stairs... but it was still slightly safer and saner (and more consensual? >>) than the previous system of "let The Mob gather just beside the FW stand".

Other changes: All of the retail (FW, BL, GW) was gathered together on the upper level with united pay stations. They tried to undercharge me at the Cash Only stand (bad math on a pocket calculator), but sadly I still didn't have enough on me and got redirected to the Cash/Card tills, where they rang me up poperly.

Final hint for coping with The Mob!

Go out. Find a disabled geek to bring into the hobby, or get yourself severely injured below the waist. Wheelchairs are and remain your best chance to avoid The Mob, whether it's before the lift breaks (when you get jumped to the head of The Mob) or after some idiot kicks it too hard (when you get escorted 'round the outside of the building to the side door).

Plus, if they're nice, you can hang your bag o' snacks on the back of their chair ;).

Games day report for me

;) off that I lost my camera. Was on the way back home pretty much just when we arrive to our drop off point to get pick up/go home. But greatful the manger going to phone today. But just really did not need this & lack of sleep/being really tired has not help my mood that all.

I though it was a alright day. Mange to met up with a lot of people I knew during the day.

Chris Wraight (auther of Battle for the Fang) came over to check out my Armies on Parade board which was really cool. When I got Chris to sign my book, commented I had my AoP board on display. Then during his break he saw myself, so went to the Armies on Parade area & shown Chris my Armies on Parade entry. Talk about Battle for the Fang & I talk a bit about my conversion & models.

One of the younger gamer got Bronze that Games Day which is cool.

Talk to recruitment about the hobby team. Seem impress.

Got a few models photos take from What new today so see how this gose.

But just really did not need my camera to go missing ;)

I personally thought the Armies on parade was rather badly set up. With the Golden Demon you just had to wait for a space to appear, but there you had to squint to see any detail whilst being jostled by everybody else. I was going to vote, but gave up in the end because I just couldn't see anything clearly enough.

Was fun talking to one of the Golden Demon winners about his entry at the start though, and saw a few people from my area.

How did he manage to escape? I was lamenting all day that I didn't get to come see all the entries! Grrr! Am working my way through the Other Half's photos, but it's not quite the same.

Quick 'thanks' to any B&C-types who popped by to get copies of The Gildar Rift signed, by the way.

Chris was on his break, spoted me & ask if he could quickly see my Armies on Parade as I commented during the sign I done my Space Wolves army for it & I use some bits from his book for my conversion work as really like Battle for the Fang, was a great novel. Also I'm a fast walker & can easily get though crowed with out being held up ;)

Just pick up "The Gildar Rift" along with Outcast. Was a little worry that I would not be getting near Black Library/retail area that all during the day. But it did quite down.

Did anyone get photos of Armies on Parade??

Speaking of the lines. The CEO of Games Workshop messaged the fans on Facebook.

To all Games Day 2011 customers,

It was great to see you all on Sunday at what proved to be our busiest Golden Demon and Games Day in quite a few years. The gaming tables, hobby areas and displays were packed all day, paricularly the Dreadfleet demo games and our staff have fed back how much they enjoyed talking with you throughout the day. We hope you enjoyed it too.

It was good to see how popular some of the new activities were, such as the Masterclass demonstrations and Armies on Parade, both of which we will run again next year. We will also continue to show more of the Golden Demon entries on the big screens, which again proved popular. As always the reviews are already under way to build on what worked well and look at what we can do better.

On the latter, I'd like to apologise to those customers who had to queue for the sales stands in the morning. I'm afraid we were unable to cope with the sheer volume of people wanting the new Warhammer Forge, Forgeworld and Black Library releases. Lessons have been learnt and we will ensure that next year we are better prepared in the sales area so that any queuing is kept to a minimum. I'd like to thank you all for your patience while we sorted this out and I cannot speak highly enough of the behaviour of those in the queue during this time. You were amazing. Thank you.

Anyway I hope you all returned home safely and enjoyed sharing your purchases and stories with your friends and families. Keep your eyes posted on the Games Workshop website and your local Hobby Centre Facebook site for more pictures and videos from the day.

Until next year.

Mark Wells

CEO

linky.

I think this is the first time I've heard of the guy. Awfully nice of him to mention this.

Thanks for signing the Games Day anthology for me. I managed to get most of the authors to sign it but unfortunately couldn't get Graham McNeil or William Kings scribble on it :tu: . I did however get meet the guy who I personally hold responsible for getting me hooked and spending a small fortune on Black Library novels - Dan Abnett.

I've got to say, all the authors were really nice to talk to and I thanked each one for signing my book with a handshake and a smile.

One thing I did notice was the sheer amount of Ultramarine armies there. I mean, I know there're popular, there's a few around my local game store, but walking around the boards it seemed like every third player had a (Normally) badly painted Ultramarines army.
