Elmo, your stuff is great. I really like the extra additions on the Terminators to personalize them (shields, bands on the feathers, etc) and I really like the inclusion of the Stormraven and the LS Storm. The scouts from the LSS really do look funny on the ground. The extended Raven looks awesome, I love the chapter symbol being painted across the entire thing, simply beautiful work. You really have done a great job (and in amazingly little time too)!

One problem with very bright coloured vehicles is convincing weathering...sorry i hate to say, but the dirt looks painted

But on the other hand its very hard to weather big models without a airbrush...problem is, it is a very clean paintjob...the mud looks way to regular and "clean" painted on...the whole rest of vehicle looks still freshly painted, only place where the weathering looks convincing is at the top of left door because it looks splasehed on or sth...

But weathering is a art for itself, and i coulndt have done it better for sure!

I dont want to lessen your amazing work, just my honest opinion/feedback!

I know exactly what you mean and I will be working on the mud after the ETL is over but it would have sucked far to much time and Capt S. is getting frantic

One of my ideas is to glue fine sand onto the muddy bits to give a bit of texture - we'll see

I keep looking at the clean version and doing a face-palm - dammit

texture can surely help...but dont overdo it and just at the tracks!!

Id suggest you google for scale modeling tuts for weathering, there are TONS of ways/techniques, the way vehicles accumulate dirt etc...but the real problem is the LRs bright colour, anything you do (good or bad) will immediately hit the eye!

The other problem is, even if you do a awesome job at muddying the tracks....the rest of the vehicle is still ultrabright, you would have to more or less weather the whole tank!

But yeah, Cpt. Semper is pushing so i guess its ok to declare it done!

Sooner or later i will run into the same problem...

That is the problem - when to stop...

I like the bright 1st Company colours and want them to stand out - the idea is that it has just driven off a transport onto the battlefield.

Whatever I do now will, as you say, be right in your face.... I will have to give it some thought :)

I am starting to wish I had not started the mud but it will be a sod to get back to bone now so I will have to go with it.

I think using a stipple brush along the track guard will stop it looking painted on and help to break up the wash boundry....

Walks away muttering to self :o

Look this thread the GK vehicles, this i a guy who works for a minature painting service, and the guy has the same problem!

Check his LR, the mud isnt that regular as with your LR....also the whole front is weathered...his coverage of mud is totally OK there, softer overlaping of mud/GK silver(my bet is on a airbrush)!

But his LR struggles from lack of texture of the dirt and that the LR is only dirty at the tracks and the front....the whole rest looks too clean!

I dont mean that the whole vehicle should be muddied, just that it looks used by ppl....smoke stains at the exhausts/any other engine related ventilations...theres no boundaries for you imagination!

Just take a look at scale tank modeling sites for tons of inspirations/tutorials!!

See what you mean about the front end - I reckon it was an airbrush as other people commented he is fast.

I would have to use either a stipple brush or a sponge technique.

I will have another go between doing terminators and if all else fails, as a very last resort it will be going back to factory fresh :tu: .

Thanks for the help on this.

Well the guy used a OK amount of weathering over the whole of his vehicles....but silver seems to be as unforgiving as white/bone, it still looks kinda new!

You may test those FW weathering powders(or get similar, but cheaper stuff from your local scale model/art shop), but i never used them so i cant help you there!

Damn i really have to reconsider my imagined paintscheme for my MK2b LR, he was planned in bone as well!

Here are the better photos of my new 1st Tactical Squad, 4th Company.

They will be replacing my current 1st Squad who will be promoted to Company veterans (after breaking a few arms off).

You sir know how to paint models ! ;)

About weathering on LRC:

- try using a cue tip and some 70% alcohol . Dip the tip into the fluid and scratch away the brown color on the edges of the vehicle, and here and there. The effect you are looking for is for the alcohol to melt away some of the brown so the original vehicle color can be seen through it.... mud never dries so that it totally covers the vehicle.

-after that , dry brush with a lighter brown color over the mud, so that the mud effect looks like it's dried in the sun.

- another thing is also possible and easy to do- using a cue tip dipped in boltgun metal to just poke the edges of the plates of armour on LRC to make them look used, damaged and realistic.

I'm not trying to diminish your work, you are excellent- I'm just sharing what I've learned so far.

:)
