True Scale DIY Chapter 'The Angels Meliora'

Another update, my truescale veterans are now almost finished! The vet sarg doesn't have a head at the moment (my first attempt at painting flesh was a total F up, hahaa... I will make another attempt again soon and see what I come up with.) and my second heavy bolter vet needs an arm (I forgot to prime his arm with all the others but will get it primed soon, now that my ironclad dread is finally ready for paint ).

I'm pretty happy with their stances and the overall feel of the squad. Everyone is in a shooting stance except for one guy, so I think they look aggressive as a group and that's what I wanted.

I feel like I've read somewhere that dreadnoughts were supposedly 3 times the height of a man, so say 18 feet tall, and I think the proportions I got with my dread are pretty reflective of that.  Definitely not as large as a dreadknight, but a tank on two legs for sure, even more so than regular Astartes.  All his greenstuffing was a pain in the butt, I'll tell you what lol...  Glad you dig it tho, hoping to have some paint on him soon!

Another quick update - starting my venerable dreadnought!

I got him stomping over the remains of a fallen chaos space marine at the moment, and would like y'all's thoughts about the position of his legs.  His left hip looks a little high and his overall balance looks kinda off, but at the same time it kinda shows that in theory dreads could do more than just waddle and maybe even, gasp, traverse some terrain.  Thoughts?

He's very, very WIP still.  I'm gonna sculpt over the big green stuff blob that's in front of his iron halo and try to tie it in with the three little doohickies he's got right above his head - maybe an extension of the sarcophogaus or so.

Got some more work done on my ironclad.  Debating whether to paint his helmet in the red and bone or in gold.  I feel like the helmet needs a little help to stand out against the rest of the model, but gold might be too much...  I dunno, any thoughts?

Couple little details with his targeting lenses, gotta clean up his hurricane bolter ammo boxes and then I think I'm gonna maybe have a redo on the lighting of his power plant.  But you get the idea!

My Ironclad is finished!  targeting lenses are kinda tricky to paint, but figured it out I think.  Thanks to all the folks with tutorials and images of gems and lenses, lol...

Thanks @deathspectersgt7, they've been sitting on my shelf primed for months now - been antsy to paint them up for a while, but wanted to work out my paint scheme on the tacticals before moving on to these guys. Debating what color their power weapons' glow will be- was thinking blue but will that be too busy with the green on the plasma weapons?

Went for the silver iron halo on him @Argent, but I'll say that I will be working on another member of my chapter that will be deserving of a golden iron halo in the near future

Got some work done on my company champion.  I tried doing some drybrushing for a glow effects for his lightning claws, but I wasn't feeling it...  Had to dip them in simple green and start over lol.  Anyone know of a good tutorial on this?  Happy with the way the rest of him is turning out tho, gotta just dry brush a little more bone over the paint chips and blend that a bit more.

Thanks all, feels good to be working on this project again.

 

Had a break at work and sketched these out - all rough drafts of course, but trying to figure out where I wanna go with the standard bearer's iconography.  This chapter hails from the Imperial Fists, not sure which founding yet - but since they're from the Fists I wanted to have, you guessed it, a fist somehwhere in the chapter symbol.  And since their name is the Angels Meliora, I wanted to work some wings in there somehow as well.

The old metal dread's power plant is way smaller than the FW ironclads, so I'm trying to match that up as best I can.  Probly gonna have another go on those smokestacks, but you get the idea!
