True Scale DIY Chapter 'The Angels Meliora'

Recommended Posts

  • 6 months later...

Wow how the time flies, I am officially a 40k sloth.

Had several goes at resizing the dreadnought's powerplant with greenstuff and wasn't satisfied. Got my act together and bought some plasticard... still some touch-up greenstuffing involved, but much easier for symmetric / flat surfaces.

It's nice to have two days in a row to work on this project and my venerable dread is finally starting to look like something.  Plasticard is the hot sauce.

And finally found a use for all those seargent loincloth things that we all have a million of, lol...  They fit under the dreadnought arms pretty well I think.

Rolled some greenstuff real thin with my iPhone case against my cutting mat, gonna chop them up and see if I can use them as the bolts along the plasticard edges - the green stuff ones look a little puffy somehow.

Last couple things from yesterday:

Chopped up a boot leg seismic hammer and put the eagle head in between the smokestacks,

and cut up the green stuff rolls and used them for the bolts along the dreadnought's armor.  Much tighter look I think.

versus the old

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac284/wessmithjazz/40K%20Stuff/IMG_8989_1.jpg

and up on top of the sarcophagus to blend with the style of the forgeworld legs

Need to address his smoke stacks and the little details by his stormbolter and then he's ready for paint - wooo !

So I made the mistake of revisiting Lamenter's website, checking out his artscale terminators and becoming inspired by his awesome work, so I am making the plunge into attempting a squad of terminators. Here is a rough mock up - just trying to get the height and then the line up of his head and torso right. Specifically, is the space in between his hip and torso appropriate ?

Work continues on this terminator, gonna need to go buy more green stuff soon lol...

And my venerable dreadnought conversion is 99 percent done.  Gotta clean up the smoke stack holes, added some very venerabley cables to fill out his shoulders in the rear - I'm excited to get some paint on him!

My first true scale terminator is pretty much done. Gonna pull his arms off and put magnets in at some point, but here he is for size comparison. I was kind of hoping to not have to sculpt the shoulder pads as some fellas like Lamenter do, but I feel like he's not quite imposing enough next to one of my true scale marines.

gallery_80469_13580_82210.jpg

even though he'd certainly throw a guardsman around like a rag doll

gallery_80469_13580_189805.jpg

and a size comparison next to my scaled up dreadnought.

My venerable dreadnought is finally primed, and now I'm starting to think about building a display for this truescale project - two dreads, 15 marines and 5 termies...

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac284/wessmithjazz/40K%20Stuff/IMG_9354.jpg

Kind of inspired by something from one of the Dawn of War II end of mission images or so (I'm dating myself, I know lol...) but I think it could be cool.

Command squad wouldn't be quite so elevated as in the pics , but hopefully y'all get the idea.

Quick update, work on my first terminator continues!

Struggling in certain places, but he'll get there. Gonna have to do (Alot) more filing down and green stuff patches than I'd like to... probly just need to follow Lamenter's tutorial more closely for the rest of the squad, lol...

All that said, after sculpting his boots and adding the bigger shoulder pads, I'm very happy with his stature than I was at first - He is definitely larger than my artscale marines now and he towers over a standard imperial guard, so mission accomplished there.

Hopefully more updates soon !

Awesome! The terminator has turned out really well. I like that it's scaled with the power armour in a way that a marine could wear either without his stature magically changing.

Took me far too long to find a way to phrase that point, lol.

@gezabutla glad you diggin the termie and thanks for the feedback!  Yeah especially in some of the newer art work, the terminators look they're 12 feet tall or something crazy like that.  Always dug this picture, and all the medieval backwards-ness is great too.

I think if someone were to truescale some chaos termies the size difference could be cool and due to warp shenanigans, but that's another thread.

More updates soon.

Warp bloated Chaos Terminators, that's a cool idea! Only problem there is that Chaos Terminator legs are an ornamental nightmare, though it could be a cool project for a Terminator Lord.

Yeah I'm not sure I'd be up for the challenge of all that green stuffing for a chaos terminator, lol...  tho a google search quickly reveals that some of the fellas surely are!

Anyhow, work on the termi squad continues.  Legs coming together, torsos coming together, etc.  I just realized I have to go back and redo the thigh plates on the original model - the hydrolic mechanism thing is on the front side of the leg too.  Doh!

Had a Shrine of the Aquila delivered to the local GW store and picked it up.  I'm gonna figure out a way to put the dreadnoughts a little higher and then on the bottom tier have the termis just a little above the tactical marines.  Should be an appropriately labirynthian admech kind of scene.

Whoo, been a busy year...  Finally finally had a few moments to dig back into this project - the first terminator is done with greenstuff, the rest of the squad is nearing completion now too.

Impressive work.

Thank you Bjorn, the termi's are a real bitch to make... Some of the guys who actually know what they're doing cough-Doghouse-coughcough-Lamenter-cough should make some molds of theirs lol...

Don't dodge the Swear Filter by replacing letters with symbols, use the :cuss emoticon. Especially for a word that isn't filtered, breaking the rules for that is just silly.

Wow, was just about to put up completed true-scale terminators, only to have to ask if anyone knows of an alternative to photobucket ? And for real, just in case you thought I wasn't kidding, for real... :cuss Photobucket...

And Close Thread I guess ?

Imgur seems to be popular, but the B&C has a gallery you can use to upload and post pics :tu: Edited by Bryan Blaire

Thanks for the info fellas. Trying out the B&C gallery - seems pretty streamlined, so I am encouraged to re-assemble this thread despite the setbacks caused by photobucket... Yeah, :censored: photobucket.

Anyhow, I had to buy some primaris marines... Just had to. Amazing models but I am not a fan of the new fluff, so I'm gonna convert them into Sternguard for my chapter, long before the current timeline. I'm pleased at this point, because my true scale Astartes are right in line with the new Primaris sculpts from GW... and my Truescale terminators still look they'd b*tch slap the new Primaris marines, lolol.

gallery_80469_13580_447662.jpg

The Primaris marines are really great sculpts IMHO, they're gonna make great Sternguards.

Thanks again guys, was pretty discouraged when I saw that all the photos in this thread were broken. Again, F@ck you, Photobucket... But gonna keep on keepin' on.

Stop breaking the B&C rules by dodging the Swear Filter through replacement of letters with symbols.

Here's pics of my truescale terminator squad from a couple days ago, working on just a few more green stuff details and then filing down, smoothing and a couple cuts to make the edges real sharp.

Since this Chapter hails from the Imperial Fists / Templar tradition, I put two assault cannons in the squad. Nothing was cooler than the double assault cannon terminator squads from back in the day.
