Fangbangers of Fenris: vanquish 2015

I can't wait to paint them!

I'm planning on running fang and a melta/fist n flamer dread to start with. I really like the idea of the ven with axe and shield but I feel if he drops with fang, all the firepower will be directed at fang due to the vend having abetted save. Also I lack some anti armour, so the multi melta is much needed. I have a few 1000 point games coming up so will see.

Playing a little 1000 point fun game tomorrow so will give them a whirl then, just trying to get my drop pods assembled before then!

Started work on pods and dreads so I could loose assemble the pods and use them in my game. Testing out some blending of 2 blues with my new airbrush and after a lot of thining, got there in the end. Think I will do the side fin (black that remains) yellow and black striping like warning tape.

I also did the silver jets and panels aswell as doing some black sparing on the fins whe the engine sits to signify it's been burning. Not sure what other colour to add to this

So my 1000 point game against grey Knights saw 2 close combat armies duke it out! I got my tactics totally wrong, forgot loads of rules (such as rending...! golly gee!?) yet still managed to table him after his rhino immobilised and blew up and I glanced his immobilised land raider to death! My power fist got killed by dangerous terrain rolls so had to get stuck in with Harald.....

Can't really comment on the dreads... Fang was on the wrong side of the board and had to also glance at the land raider and the melta dread did a couple of glances on the rhino but nothing significant. If I had the dreads switched over with each other then it would of been a different story!

All in all a fun, yet very strange and interesting game. He was way ahead on maleestrom so tabling was all I could do!

Looking forward to the weekend and getting on top of all of these unpainted units I have as well as finishing off the wolves

Here goes nothing....

Time to get stripey. First fin done...

And then a shot of the rest and pod..

Didn't turn out too bad!

There's a few bits that weren't tapped up properly and also a few bits of paint that the tape took up but I figure I can just go wether those parts anyway as I want the whole thing to have a nice dingey look too it.

My aim is to get a pod and its contents done every weekend for the next 3 weeks, as well as trying to squeeze in finishing off the TWC. That masking takes ages and is boring so could not do all in one day.

What do you think of the effect? Any tips from peeps who have used the same techniques?

And then a comparison before the weathering and hazard marks

This is my first ever completed mini so hope you enjoy!

Oh and also the harnesses where purposely left out as this pod will be for my dread!

Awesome! I'd have had the stripes a little more diagonal, but that could be for the next one. Great weathering! Also, piece of advice: if you spray the miniature with Vallejo Satin Varnish though your airbrush (no GW Purity Seal as that ruins everything) and let it dry properly, you'll have a far easier job with the masking tape. :tu:

Yes. Gloss varnish might even be better, but I'm not a big fan of overly glossy mini's.

I sprayed gloss before I did the weathering as I was using oils, and then sealed it all in with matte varnish as a last step so I could just do that pre-taping anyway. I'll try it on the next one!

You've done that so well - looks great!

I think I need to get an airbrush and get practicing...

Cheers dude! An airbrush is the best thing I have bought by far, makes everything so quick and I love the blending effects you can accomplish. Got a cheap one with compressor on eBay to start with and just recently upgraded to a better brush wich I wish I had done sooner. The compressor though will last as long as I want it too i imagine!

Mixed emotions painting him, space wolves have so much detail! All those runes and chained etc... Can get quite frustrating.

I really wanted him looking filthy like the DP. Let's face it, if you are mental enough that you have to be frozen and put in a cave until you are needed, no one is ever going to get close enough to clean you!

The most fun was doing the rusted claws and I think I got what I was hoping for over all but obviously and criticism is always welcome, good or bad.

Let me know what you think!

I like him. Very much. The grey seems to deviate from your regular grey, but that might be the picture. Not that I don't like this grey, because I most certainly do - just a question of doesn't he look different from the rest? ANyway, back to the compliments: The snow base is great, I like the weathering and the rust did come out great. Good job, man!

  • 3 weeks later...

Well it's been a while!

So what's new? Well I had a 1000 point game against and iron hands, managed to table him turn 5....;)

Murderfang did very little but as a distraction, worked a treat. The TWC took only one wound the entire game and eat through anything in their way. Melta dread did his fair share of destruction also....loving drop pods!

Hobby wise been slow. Luckily though a challenge via dantay and the Augustus arena has put me back on track. I have a tourney end of April so everything needs to be painted for that so to get going I'm trying to finish the grey hunters. I'm trying to rush them through so the results won't be epic!

Need to get them done ASAP...

At last! Managed to finish these guys off...

Really did not enjoy doing them and rushed them through towards the end as I was sick of them! I think they turned out fine for table top

So much left to do and only a couple of weeks to do it before the tourney...

They are not 100% how I would like them as I have had to rush through them but they will be fine for table too. It's just nice to have units they have been sitting on my table for ages finished for good!

Left to do this weekend is the termies, stormfang and these

Hoping they won't take long.

Also, look what just turned up in the post........

Cannot wait to get this on the table! Also, the books probably give away what my next project will be!
