DuskRaider's Word Bearers

Recommended Posts

I'm afraid it would ruin the details.

What about *looks around before whispering* press moulding?

I mean if you have a few bases already but not used...and maybe work them up for the bigger base sizes?

*Looks around again*

So, while I sit here (impatiently) awaiting my Dorito Dreadnought AND Prospero box, I decided to paint up some buddies for my Disciples of the Path. As was shown a short time ago, I have some Daemons from a prior army still sitting around. I had a squad of them painted up, but unfortunately this was done over 4 years ago and I'll be damned if I forgot how I had done it. I suspect with Reaper paints, which have long since dried up and gone in the trash. So... I started to repaint them.

In this first picture, the three Plaguebearers were based in a 1:1 mix of Castallan Green / Rakarth Flesh. The first one was washed in Thraka Green, the second in Seraphim Sepia and the final in Agrax Earthshade. I wanted to give them some variation while at the same time having them mesh well.

In the second picture, you can see highlights have been added as well as some blotchiness using Averland Sunset and highlighted over using my 1:1 Castallan / Rakarth. I started the open wounds / sores and guts as well. They'll still get some further shading and so forth to make them look more diseased, such as Leviathan Purple around the wounds and in recesses.

So hopefully these guys will be done soonish, then I'll move on to the Daemon Prince... or have my other stuff by then. Until then!

Edit:

Alright, I wanted to add these two other pics just so I could show what I'm talking about with the layers... this next picture is the Plaguebearers with spots of Averland Sunset in random areas. The only areas which are consistent is the face / head and belly area.

And this last one is after doing a VERY light drybrush of the 1:1 Castallan / Rakarth over the Averland... just to bring it back down to earth a bit and blend it into the surrounding flesh.

Thanks, Nemac! It's been a while since I delved into anything Nurgle, so it's been a welcome return.

Here's some updated shots of the Plaguebearers... I haven't done their weaponry and Banner yet due to my indecision. Originally, they were accomplished using Rust Effects paint (metal / iron paint + activator solution). While it was cool to have actual rust, I may end up just using pigments instead... I don't know yet. They're done otherwise. I also have a few missing hands... I believe they were the ones holding the bundle of heads, so I'll need to replace them with something. I may see if Mantic Zombie hands are the right size since I have a metric ton of those from my Renegade Militia Plague Zombie days...

I also found my five remaining Plaguebearers and have begun painting them, which brings their number to 29 (number 30 was hacked up to make a Death Guard Champion years ago).

And finally, I've also begun repainting the Daemon Prince to match the Plaguebearers... I love this model.

Hopefully more updates coming soon!

Thanks, guys. I've had to take a hiatus from Word Bearers / Daemons for now since I'm doing a Genestealer Cult commission. I've also decided to take the plunge into a Custodes army, so I've based 5 and I'll be trading my Sisters of Silence for 5 more... a nice start. Obviously I've got my Prospero box and have assembled the Tartaros as much as I can, but after seeing Noctus' Word Bearers Tartaros Terminator, I went on eBay and picked up some Fantasy Chaos pauldrons, so I'm awaiting those to finish them. As for the rest of the box, I've got... plans.

I'm putting together a bulk FW order with some friends to make the most of the Prospero box. I'll be getting 4 sets of the Boarding Assault kits to make Breachers, 2 Heavy Weapons kits, and 2 Lascannon kits... because I want my guys to be shoulder mounted. The underslung Lascannons look absolutely ridiculous, and not in a good way. I've also made an order with Blood & Skull Industry (I love his stuff) and for the following:

http://www.ebay.com/...r-/262134422298

http://www.ebay.com/...0-/252341049998

http://www.ebay.com/...=item7915bc7f28

All for the Breacher shields... I'll be making them quite customized with spikes for CC, chains to mount skulls or whatever, and Daemon skull insignias. I also picked up a bulk of Ashen Circle pads for these guys and they'll be sporting Master Crafted Miniatures spiked pauldrons on their right hand side. To push the Daemonic / terror feel even more, the Sergeants will be carrying these:

I picked up a lot of 10 Mk. II Segmented from the Command Squad a while back when I was going to make a Dusk Raider ZM force (along with 10 Mk. III Breacher heads), but they're going to come in handy for my Word Bearers. This is the one I'm speaking of:

So suffice to say... I'm well prepared to add to my Legion.

Long time, no real update. I've been working on my Prospero box, all of the bits and FW order were finally placed, and I've assembled my Tartaros. I do intend on picking up another 5 at some point for a full squad, but in the meantime here's these guys... the models are amazing! GW did a great job with them, but they needed a bit more to fit into the Word Bearers force I'm assembling.

I decided that since I went all Lightning Claws with my Cataphractii Terminators, I needed something that can actually punch holes in things. While it may seem odd to have the slow dudes with Lightning Claws and the fast dudes with Bolters and Power / Chain Fists, but it means they can catch vehicles quicker and even use their Combi-Plasma to punch holes in lighter vehicles.

So here we are... special thanks to Noctus Cornix for the pauldron idea!

How do the heads fit in? If you glue the archway piece in first will the heads still fift?

They fit in pretty well... I had to cut the plug off at the bottom of the heads and shave the sides down slightly... and they fit well. I put the heads in first and then glued the archways on to avoid any issues, and I'm pretty sure they won't slide in otherwise.

Hatred is my weapon, faith is my ammunition.

Another update for you folks... this time in the form of a Deredeo (Dorito) Dreadnought. I had a blast (although at times frustratingly) putting this war machine together. Inspired by Bulbafist, I did a little conversion to the legs using Sentinel bits, giving a bit of an avian / predatory stance. It may not be as nice as his, but it will do. I will probably add some Chaos bits and bobs to it still (brass icons, perhaps skulls, etc) but I was pretty excited to have it done and figured I'd share with everyone.

Here's a scale photo to show just how much larger the Dreadnought is now. I think it makes much more sense, these guys are supposed to be popping tanks and aircraft, they need a height advantage to see over terrain. That and now he looks pretty imposing while still looking quite agile with the chicken legs.

Hopefully I'll throw some paint at him soon.

I had to cut down Sentinel legs, actually. you have to shave down the sides so they'll fit into the Deredeo shins, then you just kind of attach them to the thighs, It needs some greenstuff work before I can start painting it, mainly to clean it up and fill some gaps, but otherwise he's all set.

Here's a link to Bulba's Dreadnought, where I got the inspiration. As I said, I think he did it better but I'm still pleased with my results.

No problem, bud. I've made another pair in case I feel like getting another Dorito... I've got a Plasma Cannonade kit as well, although I'm curious what the Lascannons will be so I may hold out for those.

So I got an itch to piece something together and remembered I had Asterion Moloc's body laying around in my bits box. I also remembered the Chaplain loophole that allows me to model him dual wielding, and he'd make a great companion to my Tartaros Terminators. The one thing I knew I wanted to do with him is have him standing on the fallen Marine that comes with Ahriman. So here we are... he'll be painted up like my other Chaplains / Command Squad.
