What I'm doing and Why:

I’m building Sons of Horus Company Livery plates as a community reference standard (fan project, but trying to lore-faithful).
This is not official GW canon, but a consistent visual language the community and we can see more personalized Sons of Horus Armies in the community, telling more unique stories on the tabletop.

Era: Late Great Crusade (when the legion wa renamed to Sons of Horus) up to the Siege of Terra.
I will be making a proper PDF once I get through all the companies I have figured out, rn its 117 of them.
Each plate is a baseline for each of the companies. Copy it directly, or build on it with squad markings, honors, trophies, and campaign heraldry —while keeping the Company identity readable.

What are the variables and how to use them:
Standard - Green Armor
In my opinion, the best recipe for green armor was done by Cult of Paint

What changes from company to company
Trim color - Can be metalic or flat colors
Shoulder Inlay Color
Armorial Color (ex. Gold wite or black Eye of Horus)
Sargean Plume Colors
 

What to customize : Smaller accents with details, markings, tropies, squad numerics, type of legion armorials used (Serpent Glyphs, Eye of Horus, Eye of Terra etc.)

Addressing the Reaver Controversy:
From all the digging I've done around this question, this is what we reliably know:
1. Catulan Reavers are a named 1st Company formation with a locked scheme (Black Armor, Red Left Shoulder inlay, Gold Trim).
2. Other Companies also fielded their own Reaver formations. We know that as time went on, later into the Heresy, the more widespread Reavers became in other companies.
The Reaver plate I made is Company agnostic for a reason, giving oyu an option to make it your particular Company reaver, and not automatically default to only 1st Company Reavers, like Catulans.
