  1. It's finally time to start a thread here in B&C too, brethren. My loyalist splinter of XIV Legio Astartes, known as the Echoes of Eisenstein, is a labour of love that has now taken three years and lost all brakes a while back. When I got hold of my first Betrayal at Calth set, the path to damnation was set and I knew I had to go and start a whole army of truescaled marines. There would be no respite. There would be no models left unconverted. There would be only chopping and the laughter of ever growing mountains of grey soldiers waiting for their day. Inspired by Veteran Sergeant on DakkaDakka, the spiral into endless cuts and lenghtenings had begun. From so humble a beginning... So, welcome to gawk at my insanity where I'll ever so slowly go through the same process with the rest of the 150+ guys I have either unbuilt or unstripped from previous owners of 5 boxes of Calth and Prospero, scratch tanks from busted Rhino carcasses, learn how to paint through my irrational biases ("dang my steel just looks bad in true metal but brass and copper, yaaaas queen!") and occasionally create piles of terrain out of ice cream boxes and my significant other's diabetes waste. 2. https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/194cfjt/my_death_guard_tutorial/ I found this tutorial and is quite interesting. And I really like the conversion, simple but effective.
  3. I thought I'd share my Chaos army and various WIP things, hopefully to motivate myself to get some more painting done! I have a decent sized Iron Warriors army, as well as a goodly number of Thousand Sons, which I'll get pictures of later. My current projects are a start up Emperor's Children Warband, and a force of The Cleaved. The Cleaved: I made this Plague Marine years and years ago when I had a spare blob of Green Stuff. The armour was a test piece for the new foundations, its straight Dheneb with a heavy devlan wash. He got some nice armour scores, and some weeping joints I abandoned them for a very long time, until the release of the new codex, whereupon I made a couple of plasma gunners to come later. I also have 5 of these guys that will be geting the cleaved treatment. My very first tank, well over 10 years old with an awful splotchy (but thin) nurgle paint job, back when the mark of Nurgle gave your vehicle +1AV all round. Rather than give it to the Iron Warriors, I've honoured it's heritage and dedicated it to the cleaved. The marine on the back was originally an ultramarine, but the blue wouldnt look good with the colour scheme. Green, however would, and seeing as there will probably be a few new DA players soon...and also to annoy Skink a little. The Nurglings on top need some detailing, as well as a few other bits and bobs, but I consider it table worthy after a weekend's work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the new codex, I jumped at the chance to finally get some Slaaneshi marines under my belt. Noise marines with an 80's hair metal vibe. I wanted a full Sonic blaster squad, buy only had one and the blastmaster, so time to make up some stuff: Dude doing a squealy blaster solo, and regular blaster dude. You cant quite see the detail, ut they have hides/skin GS'd onto their leg armour, and regular dude has GW barbed wire wrapped around his thigh. Blastmaster and DeathKorg. You cannot have a band without a synth, so this guy got made up. The idea is that the bolter fires, gets some funky rhythm attached to it as it goes along the barrel, then hits the opponent with some music that they've probably never heard of. Noise Champion: Since squad leaders cannot currently have blasters, and in the hope that they can someday, I made something in between a combi bolter and blaster, the backpack (from the classic NM) and belt amp can also double as a Doom Siren. Smile:
  4. Figured I might as well start a thread to sporadically document my sporadic progress on this project. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Death Guard. In particular, their stubborn loyalists. A lot of my 30k projects have centred around exploring how the original Terran Veterans of the legions interacted with the directions their legions took after being united with their primarchs. This army is based around a cadre of terran veterans from Albia, now old, bitter and neglected. They served the emperor with honour and distinction before the reunification with Mortarion, after which they found themselves increasingly sidelined and overlooked, abandoned to forgotten war zones and isolated frontiers. This army is intended to reflect a barebones, 'old school' crusade era force. Lots of veteran squads and heavy weapon squads all in land raiders, with none of the Death Guard specific weaponry bar some alchem flamers. No scythes or toxin bombs, these guys wield the weapons of their Albian forefathers, and cling to the notions of chivalry and honour the early Dusk Raiders possessed. I painted a test model for the scheme I had in mind last year, and was fairly happy with it. With the gorgeous new Mk3 marines I've started to actually build the force in earnest, starting with some multi-melta heavy support marines and a few Veterans. I'm pretty happy with how they are coming out, but always happy for feedback. The first image should be the test model, still glossy from oils. Then the current batch after basecoating, followed by oils, and finally a basically finished marine with metallics done.
  5. Loyalist wearing clean Mark VI armor. I’ve been lurking a long time and figured I would finally post something. In Betrayal, the Death Guard armor is described as an ivory grey. So that’s what I went for.
  6. There hasn't been alot of chatter in the Death Guard forum in a while so I felt like making a thread about 10th since not much will change for us before then. Essentially I just want to banter about what we want to see for our Death Guard in 10th edition. Wishlisting as some people call it. First and foremost I would like disgustingly resilient to go back to the better 5+++. I'm not going to math hammer it all out on here but 5+++ is better than -1D overall. -1D does nothing against spammed 1D weapons and mortal wounds, about the same for 3D, and much worse for 4D+. It only shines at 2D and is more consistent at 3D. We would get our small arms and mortal wound shrug off back. I don't see this happening unfortunately. I want free wargear to end as that is just stupid. A blight launcher is better than a bolter in every aspect and should cost different. For some reason this edition wargear costs were multiples of 5 and everything ended up over costed. They can be + 1/2/3/4/5 points for balances sake. Blight launchers and flails at the higher end and plague belchers and bubonic axe at the lower end. This might happen, but it is not an issue unique to DG and DG will get a similar treatment to whatever the other factions get in 10th regarding wargear costs. Wouldn't mind small wargear changes. Adding the plague weapon to the champions powerfist would be nice. The Lord of Virulence has a plague power fist and it's cool. And if wargear is staying free, they need to give our bolters plague weapon to balance them out, otherwise there is no reason to use them. They gave us the daemonic sword on the champions this edition, I could definately see the small flavor change in 10th like plague weapon on the fists. Our legion trait not applying to our Daemon engines is so stupid. Space marines get their chapter traits to apply to their whole codex (minus servitor like units), we should get ours to apply to everything as well. I'm hoping this is corrected. Regardless if DR changes or not, it should be applied to everything in the codex. I will never use Rhino's until they get it. If you have one or two units in the codex without it they just scream "shoot me with all your 2D weapons on turn 1". They could just call it a Death Guard Rhino to have the changed rule and charge whatever few more points they want for it for balance. The helbrute already has -1D and -2D might be silly, they could get 6+++ or 5+++. Helbrutes need love in general. I would never take a shooty helbrute over a blight hauler and I would never take a melee one over the flying bloat Drone with the 12A mower. I think there is a decent chance for them to correct the copy and paste units and give them DR in 10th. 9th gave our copy and paste HQ's extra toughness and DR, so why not? I would like to see the Lord of Virulence change in 10th. He was advertised on the community page as interacting with Daemon engines and does no such thing. They should get rid of his master of destruction aura and either heal vehicles, give one vehicle +1 to hit, or maybe give him that relic rule to give Daemon engines 4++ (I love doing that with 3 haulers and giving them -1 to be hit, so hard to shift them). They probably won't do this either. Our least used elite character is the Noxious Blightbringer. He needs to give 2" movement instead of 1" to be worthwhile. Also leadership shenanigans tend to never work unless you put all your eggs in that basket. They should remove that and the -1 to psychic test and just give him a deny. Or turn him into our Chaplin and give chants (which would turn him into a HQ most likely). They will have to do something with him in 10th, I have never seen him in a list in 9th, not even hypothetical online lists. And lastly, people's favorite part of wish listing, new units. To be honest, I think we are doing pretty good. Compare us to TS or WE we are doing very good (talking about DG specific models). We have solid troops. Plague Marines are a little more elite than a normal marine (as they should be), and poxwalkers are great cheap fluffy units. Our elites are good. We have TWO different styles of terminators and both look amazing. 5 different elite characters, some who are very good. Fast Attack we are spoiled for the slowest army in the game. Haulers and drones are awesome. GW setting them to 9W to not bracket them was badass. For some reason spawns are the only non DR unit we can give DR to. I bought the gellarpox infected just for the boss and 3 big guys, perfect for 4 nurgle spawns to eventually play around with. Heavy Support we have the PBC and the copy and pastes. The PBC is probably my favorite unit. Looks amazing, had some good point drops, non line of site mortar. They even gave the entropy cannons plague weapon and changed them to 3+d3. No complaints from me about heavy supports, I usually take 2-3 PBC in every list. HQ's we have the Daemon Prince, various lords, our own sorcerer and Typhus. Not bad but could be better. So what do we need? I'm not sure. I rather see existing kits get new rules and models. I would love a new CHAOS ONLY Rhino kit (not just a loyalist one with spikes and trim). Add a couple detail pieces for the different gods. And when taken with DG it gets DR for extra points. Same thing with the helbrute. I love dreadnaughts but the helbrute model is small and rules wise could use some love. But a new rhino and helbrute model with God specific details would help out TS, WE and vanilla chaos marines. Give the TS version a spell cast or something for extra points. Seems like low hanging fruit if you ask me. Other than that I would love a reworked Lord of Virulence with Daemon Engine interacting rules, will feel like a new unit. Same with updating the Noxious Blightbringer, we could use better movement or the whole Chaplin idea (or combine the two, give the movement as a chant). But if I had to think of a brand new unit, I would say HQ. If I recall there was three different mantles lords take up. Contagion, Virulence and some third one (I thought I read this on the lexicanum or maybe it was the 8th Ed codex). I thought it was about poxes or something. If they made the Lord of Virulence more about vehicles, the 3rd Lord could be more of a psyker. Kind of like a unique sorc in terminator armor for DG. A cheaper Typhus without the poxwalker buff, destroyer hive and contagion aura, but with its own unique rule. I would still rather see a new rhino and helbrute with DR and reworked Lord of Virulence and Noxious Blightbringer rather than a new unit though. So fellow Death Guard (or maybe curious chaos) fans, what are your thoughts? What would you like to see changed or added? I know it's a long post, my cat woke me up at 3am knocking off my keys, wallet, wedding ring, medication and pocket change off my night stand and then ran off into the dark. He's definately a Night Lords player if I ever saw one.
  7. Hello All, I've enjoyed perusing this forum for many years, though only recently joined as a member. I have been working on a Death Guard heresy army, which has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, for several years and I figured I should finally post it. The army is definitely still a WIP but I have a large amount of it that is mostly complete so far so I'll have quite a backlog of finished stuff already. Basing a large portion of the army is still on the list of things to do for sure. I'm a huge fan of the background and lore, as well as of Your Dudes, hence I thoroughly enjoy creating conversions and kitbashes so you can see them along with some of the homebrew lore to support. I don't profess to be an amazing painter, though I'd say my skill has improved somewhat since this army was started. Being a gritty, dirty legion certain helps because you don't have to be super neat all the time. Regarding the backstory for my Death Guard, I certainly am a loyalist at heart despite a traitor legion being my favorite, though I have to profess that "lost in the warp" is kinda of an overused trope so coming up with an alternative has been quite the challenge in my mind. I like to think that while humans are prone to blind loyalty and hence why the Death Guard follow Mortarion, it is fact that humans have free will and can be more complex than automatons that make for an interesting story, so failing due to human nature, eventually recognizing failure, and the quest for redemption is certainly appealing to me. I'd like to think they fought on both sides of the conflict at different points in time in the Heresy so I have an excuse to play the army as either side. First as traitors, then later as loyalists or at least tangentially aligned to the loyalist cause as blackshields. +++++++++ The Harbingers of Extinction Even amongst a legion which showed little restraint in the usage of weapons of dread reputation, those companies almost exclusively tasked with eradication of the most tenacious of xenos organisms stood above all others in the XIVth legion in their efficiency in such ways of destruction. Founded in the darkest days of the first Rangdan War, these companies were scraped together from the most hardened survivors of these conflicts. Bearing the scars of horrific physical and psychological mutilation, the few to retain their sanity at least partially intact would go on to form the basis of the newly constituted "harbinger" battalions; the proverbial bearers of a species’ last rites. At the basis of these battalions was an operational doctrine patterned after the Dreadwing formations of the 1st legion whom they had often served alongside of during the first and subsequent Rangdan wars. These battalions usually consisted variably of 4 to 7 companies depending upon fighting strength and casualties suffered over the course of their campaigns. Equipped with esoteric wargear and the executors of tactics not often employed by the XIVth at large, these battalions quickly developed a reputation as exemplary eradicators of some of the most deadly and tenacious xenos species yet encountered by the Crusade fleets. At the height of the Great Crusade, there existed at least one Harbinger battalion within each of the Death Guard's great companies, though the unsustainability high attrition rate of men and irreplaceable war material would see this dwindle to just three immediately prior to the outbreak of the Heresy. The replacement and reconstitution of such specialized forces was indeed a goal of Mortarion near the end of the Crusade, though the lack of sufficient stock in the required resources prevented this from occurring, a fact endemic of how thin the legions were stretched in the latter years of the Great Crusade. While diminished, the remaining Harbinger Battalions continued to maintain a hold on many examples of irreplaceable archeotech and rare prototypes only sparingly seen elsewhere in the Legiones Astartes. Perhaps the deadliest legacy of these formations was the extremely high concentration of exterminatus-class weapon systems for a force of this size, such that the extermination of all life within an entire subsector would be but a fraction of their full capabilities. Even still, sealed records of forgotten campaigns show that the deployment of such weapons of mass destruction by the harbinger battalions was not a rare occurrence. In fact, such devices were often used as an opening salvo to soften up their intended quarry, prior to the commitment of ground forces to eradicate species considered too dangerous for mere planetary containment alone. The fact that many habitable worlds were left toxic, radioactive, and/or psy-unstable wastelands in their wake was considered but a minor price for the Imperium to pay compared to the alternative. Regarding the 47th Battalion of the 4th Great Company of the Death Guard Legion, known also by the moniker as the Harvesters of Worlds, it held both the reputation as the second oldest of the harbinger battalions and one of the last three still in existence prior to the Horus Heresy, having accumulated numerous commendations from its many campaigns. At the close of the 31st millennium, the 47th was almost entirely of Barbarus stock, resolute in both its loyalty to their primarch for liberating them from the monstrous Overlords, and of their resulting utter hatred of non-human life. Often deployed on extended missions to distant warzones, over its many decades of existence the 47th had grown to be a fairly insular group of warriors with a unique, but intensely grim culture by the standards of outside observers. Perhaps it was the mental scars of their experiences, or the nihilistic acceptance of a probable early demise, the warriors of the 47th were an exceptionally reserved group. They paid little heed to those accolades bestowed upon them by other members of the legion who knew little of what the 47th had wrought. Such trivialities were meaningless to warriors who steeped so heavily in the calculus of death.
  8. Hi everyone! I'm a fairly long time member of B&C but this is my first post in the Chaos forums! I've recently started a Death Guard Combat Patrol and thought I'd share my progress. First up is a squad of Plague Marines: Pretty pleased with how these turned out, and they were a lot of fun to paint. More pics to follow as units get added.
  9. So here's the deal. I've started work on a new Death Guard army - the rule is no model can be newer than Dark Vengeance. Forge World is allowed. I've got some old Plague Marines, a Finecast Typhus and an older metal Undivided Lord with power axe and plasma pistol, who looks right for the army because of his paint job. I'm looking for ideas for period-accurate Blightlords and Deathshroud. Like, for if someone wanted to build Deathshroud for 40k before the Death Guard update. I figure I can just pick up old Chaos Terminators and paint them to match for Blightlords, but I dunno about Deathshroud. Maybe ape some old Typhus models for bits? Any ideas?
  10. From left to right, back to front, these guys are: Dark Imperium/Know No Fear Boltgun Plague Marine Shadowspear Chaos Space Marine with a headswap and boltgun Dark Imperium/Know No Fear Plasma Gun Plague Marine Plague Champion made from a Know No Fear Plague Marine w/Boltgun and a First Strike Plague Champion's power pack/plasma gun and power fist First Strike Plague Marine w/Khorne Berzerker power pack First Strike Plague Marine w/Know No Fear Plague Marine's arm and Khorne Berzerker Power Pack Know No Fear Plague Marine with First Strike Blight Launcher Opinions? Thoughts? They'll be painted in IW colors in due time.
  11. Can we take them? I kinda wanna take mine and repaint it for Grandpappy Nurgle, but I don't know if Death Guard can take it.

  21. Random games pics from my game on Sunday, May 21. Played against The Plague Brothers and got tabled. Three objectives to seize in no-man's land. I'll spare a full battle report and let you just look at the pics.
  22. Let's see how the whole blog thing goes. In my last WIP update, I had done some GS work. I've done more. I used a template for chainmail to get the pattern and placed it over the stripped down leather strips. Once dry, any excess was removed. The inner shoulder pads were dry-fitted and glued into place. This gave me all I needed to assemble the bodies (Mk6 included for scale). I'm a bit annoyed at myself for the one on the far left. I didn't realize that one arm went straight out like that or I would have positioned the head differently. Here are two close ups: The angle of viewing means one can't see a bit of an overhang where the torso rests on the GS ball. It is noticeable on the back, but I'm going to cover that with a tank for the flamers.
