  1. Hello! I’m new here and a returning player to 40k. I’m starting a new space wolves army, and thought I’d make a thread to document the process. I’ve chosen the Stormwolves Great Company and my first model conversion is a Primaris in Gravis Armour interpretation of the Wolf Lord Bjorn Stormwolf. Forgive the blu-tac handle on his noggin.
  2. Back in the day of Metal IG, there were models that I feel head of heels about. I even based my Elysians using these models, but sold it years ago due to RL. Lately I've been itching to get back into getting them. So far I managed to get roughly 60 Kasrkins back... now to make a list around them. Edit: title, updated on to reflect on growing collection.
  3. +++Accessing Data-Loom XCVIIΦ... +++Establishing Link.... ++Servitor Φ-264 has connected to Terminal Σ221 ++Servitor Φ-89A has connected to Terminal Ω79 +CONNECTING.... +CONNECTING.... +CONNECTING.... +++CONNECTION ESTABLISHED+++ *hissing electronics and vox feedback* "Welcome, Commander, to the Khymara Sub-Sector. If we had thought times were hard for the Imperium of Man due to the Thirteenth Black Crusade, then we knew nothing of what has lurked in the shadows for us here. The Kymara sub-sector lies in the Western Fringe of the Ultima Segmentum and sits along the Malestrom. Such a thing has given it great prosperity and great danger, as such things are seen throughout the galaxy.” "Currently we have been unable to regain contact with one of our Imperial Mining Stations, Alpha -67c on Kymara. Imperium forces only control four systems out of the eight within the sub-sector. The sub-sector capitol of Josufa, which is positioned in the center and has had a shaky foothold throughout the last century, but that could be lost.” "Reports have been flooding in for the past decade now on new dangers. The Xenos and Renegade threats have been growing in number and daring, moving out further and more aggressively from various locations. We are afraid one our worlds might become a xenos or renegade vile nest. Aid from several Adeptus Astartes Chapters has been requested in an attempt to assist in exterminating these xenos and renegade threats.” "The last Adeptus Arbites Patrol sent to Kymara in an attempt to regain contact with Alpha-67c has not reported in -- much like the previous 6 such patrols. The Sub-Sector Adeptus Arbites Precinct has filed several more complaints with the Administratum, protesting the lack of initiative on the sub-sector Governor's part to look further into the issue. The old legends about there being several technologically advanced xenos and renegades within the area continue to dissuade their desire to reach them. The local Ecclesiarch has already sent a report via channels to the Inquisition, requesting advice and help in this heretical matter.” "Much is happening beneath the surface events however, Commander. I can feel it. I can only hope that with your arrival that the Imperium of Man will emerge victorious...even through it is against training to entertain doubt, I feel worried. Things are happening within the sub-sector and for all I know, things will not be brighter on the other side." ++END MESSAGE+++ UPDATED 05/19/2017: War009's Raptor 10th company Plog is built around the idea of an All Scout army with very little Power Armour (HQs and Elites only) supported by various other vehicles to give the army the punch it needs. This is a slow moving plog, is built for fun and no way intended to be for competive use, some conversions, and rule of cool is in effect. In preparation for 8th I have broken down the selections as follows. As a model is completed a link will be added to it. UPDATED 07/20/2020: WAR009's Raptors 10th Company Plog has been changed from an all Scout army to focusing on the 2 elements that make up the 10th Company: Vanguard and Scouts. The Army will be comprised of the those 2 elements and support from various other companies.10th Company Shadow Captain Admar Voss has crossed the Rubicon and became a Primaris Marine and is overall Commander of the Raptor Forces on Khymara. UPDATED 02/2022: WAR009' Raptors 10th Company Plog has been forced to change gears due to 9e rules changes. The Army will consisit of mainly Phobos armor units with Support in the form of different detachments from the 2nd Company, Armory and Various Headquarters staffing. some units may be deleted and other units may be added over time Update 01/2024 : My Raptors Chapter has been disbanded and no longer. This Plog will now be focusing on my Horus Heresy Era Raven Guard
  4. With the new edition brings a new army and as an avid fan of Magic the Gathering I've decided to use inspiration from the Phyrexians to base my Hivefleet on. I was inspired primarily my Elesh norn and her colour scheme which is predominately fleshy red and white. I've added some art work for reference and some of my initial models. EDIT : update, new models - Termagants. Neurotyrant and his pet Neuroloids. Screamer Killer.
  5. I am trying to do the thing where I do a rusted metal layer, then put some sort of chipping resistant medium over it, and then put a second layer of different paint over it and scratch it up to reveal the rusted undercoat. I don't have properly labeled chipping medium, but would some sort of spray varnish do at least a semi-decent job sealing the undercoat to make it resistant to scratches to the overcoat?
  6. Finally "finished" some miniatures so I figured it was time to make a progress thread. The Primaris sculpts are so awesome and appealing for someone whose rusty painting skills were never that great to begin with, and I always loved playing Space Marines anyway. In the past I started with Black Templars and then vanilla but this time around the redeployment tactics, general ruleset and concepts of the Raven Guard really drew me in. However I can't stand the whole pale emo vibe or the bird obsession, and power armour is so flat I really didn't want to paint them totally black. I also have a weird obsession with codex-adjacent heraldry so I wanted to go with a DIY chapter and pave my own colour scheme. I started with the beloved Space Marine Painter and ended up with this: As LutherMax's Raptors so beautifully demonstrate, yellow is a great highlight colour and I think a good starting point for figuring out how to incorporate rank into the helmet designs of HQs. I also started out wanting a white lower helm, but decided to make the "inside" colour black to reduce steps required on the inner surfaces of the minis. Of course, no paint plan ever survives contact with the enemy (bare plastic)... I picked up the Vanguard Start Collecting box and got to work. Been working on these guys for about six weeks now. The highlights are very sloppy still despite lots of touch-ups but I am generally happy with the workflow for each area of the mini. Starting with Phobos is a pain, there are so many bits all over them - I think Intercessors will be a relief by comparison. Here's Lieutenant Abraxas and his Infiltrators; not the greatest iPhone photos, some faces out of focus. Anybody know how I can get these to embed as larger images from my B&C Gallery? Next on the docket is the Suppressors and Infiltrators, and then some Intercessors, a Primaris Captain and an Invictor Warsuit. Plan is to paint the Intercessors up as Veterans and use MoA to get them and the Captain onto some prime objective, supported by the Invictor and Infiltrators. My buddies' armies are full of power armour and include Blood Angels, so I think I'll need some Plasmaceptors before too long too.
  7. So, in the Nurgle-infested hellscape that has become the world as of late, I've begun to read a lot more in my free time and finally stumbled upon the Uriel Ventris novels. Wow. I'm such a huge fan of Uriel and his/ the fourth company's take on the Codex that its changed my mind on who I'm building. The Doom Eagles will be set aside for now, and perhaps turned into a Kill Team down the line, but I'm a changed man and a huge advocate of the 4th company now. May I present you the first marine in my Ultramarines army:
  8. I was trying to get my new(ish) airbrush working today. However, I encountered a problem that I have seen before but have no idea how to fix. The airbrush doesn't spray any paint except when depressing the needle to return to the default position. Does anyone know why this occurs or how to fix it?
  9. EDIT: All right, i'm decided on some things but still as indecisive as ever regarding others. I will be painting Aquilas bone for the whole army, sans perhaps Marshals, Castellans, and Chaplains. I will be painting armor joints gunmetal, using either Iron Warriors or Leadbelcher. As for what I'm undecided on, it's whether I should go with red weapon casings for Initiates. It would provide a nice contrast, but I don't want there to be an overabundance of red when looking at the whole army; I want red to be largely confined to the Sword Brethren so they stand out.
  10. 10th Ed. Blues Well, I can wait and paint nothing. Or, I can cast a wide net, hoping something, anything, I paint is actually usable in the new rules. Well, the old malcador infernus will keep coming out to play until she's relegated to legends... but for the most part I think I want fundamentals ready for June 2023: Commander, Infantry, heavy weapons, special weapons, vox, leman russes, etc. I mean the other option is to sit and paint nothing, wait for a meta to emerge and race to catch it. This option is almost never satisfying (it borders gambling or smoking in harmful dopamine rewards). In fact I'd LOVE to get another 5 death riders... but with rough riders out now I have to imagine my beautiful boys are headed to legends soon. Ursula Krieg (Creed). It'd been several months since I sat down with blending and glazing. I was extremely rusty and impatient. I Attempted the sword in grey scale with red ink over the top. Not a huge fan of how the paint scheme is coming out. I should have planned it more. But, I need to get more units mobilized for 10th. She's a practice model. I got the head off of an Etsy shop selling Reptilian Overlords Miniatures. I think these will be the heads for my rough riders - that or Brodie helmets from Anvil Industries. I sculpted the breather hose with the green stuff roller, and took an extra backpack from my Tiny Legends Miniatures Kasrkin/Grenadiers. Quick and simple. Rogal Dorn I bought this at the pre-order, assembled it, and it collects dust now. I got wild with focus only on Adepticon. I need to get back to getting units serviceable. After years of reading the Rinaldi books, and AK Interactive's FAQ, I decided to try some texture for the hull. So, tamiya putty and cement. I also tried flame cut marks and weld lines. I suppose lore-wise these all ought to be standard design STC templates (welding and casting imperfections aren't in the lore). But, if I wanted to be bound by historical constraints I'd play a historical game. 40k is open by design. Interestingly I saw a golden demon entry at Adepticon, where these same 1/35 scale techniques were applied to a Dorn! It looked great. I would have loved to have talked with the painter. Also brass handles and antenna are 100x better. I'll die on that hill. Grenadiers (counts as "Kasrkin") Oh man, those Tiny Legend Miniatures sculpts are just spot on. 3d printing seams are very minimal. Bad idea? Chasing the meta? Yeah. But, the sculpts just rock. The volley gun poses are beyond awesome (clearly designed after the M60 machine gun). The price... well that part is rough. Anyway, presently they can take 4 specials, 1 sniper, a vox, and a melta mine. What are the odds in 10th they can take 1 special weapon and that's all, all stop. It's the old GW hat trick, "buy 3-4 boxes and max out the crazy rules!" And, next edition the unit gathers dust. Where are my manticores again? Luckily I didn't buy 9 sentinels, or 18. Notably Tiny Legends Miniatures also now makes rough rider conversions to krieg. They look great, but I don't know I can justify it. Anyway, back on topic, the kasrkin here all need a lot of work. So, bit by bit they are coming along. I was thinking of getting in one last 9th ed. tourney. At Adepticon my teammate took Lord solar and kasrkin. He didn't even use barbicant's key. It was vicious. I mean incredible damage output, to the point I felt bad about it while watching it. Still against Custodes I miss my vanquishers - gotta get through those invulns. I'll be interested to see if 10th Ed. reworks invulns and saves generally. Thanks! Happy Hunting.
  11. Hi all Been slowly plugging away on some projects. Not taken much in the way of WIP photos, but I finished these up recently. Until I get some better photos, here is a recently completed Vindicator, Ball Predator and Dreadnought 141486358_736556236991467_1562506913971481058_n by Stuart Barker, on Flickr
  12. Hail, Exalted Sorcerors of the Legion! Welcome to the Thousand Sons Alternative Paint Scheme Inspiration Thread (TSAPSIT for short). It's a universal truth that Thousand Sons are among the hardest 40k armies to paint, mainly due to the large amounts of trim involved, difficulty in getting a nice yellow over blue and other such considerations. While not technically difficuly, they are time consuming which leads to all kinds of motivational problems. This thread is intended to act as a resource for people to share any alternate/unconventional Thousand Sons/Rubric Marine colour schemes that they come across with the aim of showing people that collecting Thousand Sons doesn't have to be painful. Whilst Rubrics themselves are undying golems of Tzeentch, the God of Change surely can cause a little variation in colour among his followers. Similarly, Rubrics whose fickle masters have changed allegiance over their 10,000 year exile might have had their armour repainted. Please post any cool schemes you've seen in this thread [with a link to the source], and I'll add them to the list so people can find them, and I'll group loosely accoring to main colour themes. Warband names would also be great if possible! I've found a few already, which I'll lead with, but I'm looking forward to what you guys use for inspiration!
  13. Hey all! I think I'll start posting the results of my building and painting in here. I already have a thread in the Space Wolves subforum, but I guess it won't hurt showing my terrain pieces - and maybe at some point non Space Wolves miniatures - as well. I'll start with reposting my recently finished infiltrators. Not mind blowing, but ready for action ☺
  14. Planning on starting on some of my primaris Space Wolves, was curious what color base coat do you use for your models? I don't have an airbrush I generally just get a bottle of spray paint. For my DW I just use flat black and then do touch ups with Abbadon Black. I've got some Space Wolves Grey contrast that I want to use. Was thinking since I painted my old wolves just a grey color I could do the same but use the contrast over it but wanted to get some feedback from the fang before I do start. The grey I had used on my old marines they discontinued this was back in the early 2000's, was thinking if I did do grey base coat I could probably use the SW contrast over my old models I painted years ago and maybe it would match better than stripping and repainting them.
  15. Hi all First happy new year to everyone. Secondly I want to share my recently finished version of the new Mephiston model: http://www.runekappel.com//Filer/figurer/BA/Mephiston.jpg Thirdly a couple of experiences I have made so far, in a very competitive environment, concerning the new Blood Angels. Lists and general strategy: If you wish to create the most horribly, nasty lists with BA, my experience so far (not a big surprise), is that you have to go all in on trying to open you opponents screen, and then hitting him hard with big squads of Death Company that kills something important, and then wrap and traps something. Rinse and repeat if necessary. This means that you need a lot of CP, a lot of Death Company, and hefty character support. My current list evolves around two battalions and a vanguard detachment, 2x15 DC, Lemartes/Astorath/Mephiston/Smash Captain. 2 of my troop choices are 6 man Intercessor squads with thunder hammers that each sits in a impulsor with shield domes. Deployment and plan: I typical deepstrike the DC, Lemartes, and some of the characters. If I can hide a DC in terrain and my opponent has no indirect fire, I will put 1 squad on the table, to open up for forlorn fury. On turn one I try to open a flank with my impulsors, characters, and intercessors that is on the table. I also try to position my impulsors so that they can eat overwatch, if necessary. I also try to put characters in a position, where they can clean up the stuff that the DC charges next turn. This will free them to have potentially even more direct pile in and consolidate moves, towards the thing, that I need to wrap. On turn two, I do everything I can to get canticle of hate off, and move Astorath to a place, where he can buff the deep striking DC and Lemartes. Then I try to destroy key units, and wrap something to protect my DC. Blood Angels can move insane distances in the fight/charge phase now. I also take care to protect my characters at this stage against snipers and hard hitting melee characters. They are often at this point very close to the enemy lines, but with the DC wrapping something ahead of them, protected from shooting. And in the next turn, they can really wreak havoc. Next turn the second DC comes in, and with the characters, usually takes out so much of my opponents army, that the game is tilting very favorable in my favour from this turn on. I have only played a handfull of games so far, but against very hard lists (Marines, Tau, Eldar), piloted by very skilled players. No losses so far. The combination of the DC + litanies + impulsors now, is making the Blood Angels really frightening I think. It is a very binary way to play unfortunately. But I think it is probably the way to go, if you wanna win games. Cheers - Rune
  16. Evening, brothers! I've finally begun painting my army after many months of deciding on a chapter and reading more books than any sane person should. I present my test model for my new army, the Doom Eagles. I still have a lot to test, including battle damage, backpack color, and equipment bag color, but I'm happy so far. A few spots look dicey, but I'll do a little work here and there.

  21. Greetings Brothers! Long time since I played last (circa 2007). So much has changed since then, but I always wanted to start a Grey Knights army so now that the kiddos are older I'm back. I am working on a 1000 pt list to get started and moving forward from there. Looking to post WIP pics of my models, post my lists, and generally get critiques/bad ideas from the rest of the more veteran players. TIA, OMK
  22. Hey guys. I noticed a few years ago that Dark Angels Green was a little bit different to Caliban Green when it was replaced. After some googling I found out that Instar had a great line of repo paints. I decided to do a bit of a project to figure out what green worked for me and I thought that my fellow Dark Angel players might be interested in the results. Vallejo Game Colour Dark Green, UV-15 Sheen and Matte (1998 spec Dark Angels Green reproduction), Caliban Green and Contrast. I did a slightly more indepth review over at goonhammer if people are interested.
  23. Greetings fellow children of chaos. I have been a long time observer here and an even longer hobby fan, alas my time in the hobby has yielded little results to show for it, due to being afflicted with the attention span of a hobby obsessed goldfish for most of my early years in the hobby. The major highlights of my collections are a terribly painted assault on black reach ork force from back when I first picked up a brush and a small collection of word bearers. However I have always found my mind would throw ideas at me no matter the budget or painting skills I possessed, resulting in a huge collection of notes and ideas for different forces over the years. One collection of ideas that has always stuck with me though was to collect a force from each of the chaos legions, bar the black legion who I never truly found to be my taste but recently have started to like a bit more. This would have remained as little more than an idea if it had not been for the recent chaos release and the introduction of contrast paints, now giving me the ability to produce painted miniatures at a rate that can maintain my attention and provide pleasing consistent results. As such, I have started this topic to endeavor to produce at least a small force for each main traitor legion, possibly a small detachment of black legion and some small groups for any other chaos projects that take my fancy. Once I finish each legion I will probably return to each with the occasional addition to their forces, as well as possibly some key renegade factions like the crimson slaughter. Hopefully with my new drive and the feedback of the chaos community, I will be able to keep up my own personal long war.
  24. Hey folks, been a long time since I last posted some pictures here, and at that time, I used a dedicated thread for it. So, with the ETL 2019 being underway in full speed, I thought I might give it a go again. In this thread, you'll find a bit of my hobby progression regarding my only 40k army, the Blood Angels. This is your Captain Obvious speaking, coulda read the title... So without further ado, I'm glad to present to you my most recent additions to my no-longer-stagnant force: Donatos Aphael and my interpretation of his weapon-loadout: Some of you may remember him as an unfinished project on my workbench, and he's only recently seen completion. Also fairly fresh out of production is the Librarian Dreadnought. I painted both of these before getting into the ETL, I swear! And since I've already mentioned it, I've pledged 6 devastators with 2 lascannons and rocket launchers and the points for a Armourium cherub and like 4 squads of scouts for this year's ETL. Since I've mostly worked on the Scouts, I've added the progress shots below. Their red is shaded and highlighted in quite stark contrast, but it doesn't show too well in the pictures. They'll get gray-ish pants and the camo cloaks will have some urban-ish camouflage. I picked the devastators up on ebay on the cheap, so there wasn't a blister included that would allow me to build the fat winged baby robot Armorium Cherub. Good thing I can use that as an excuse to build my own representation of it and add it to my pledge. So here you go. Well, that's it for today. I'll paint some of these bad boys up a little more, could be that I can manage to get them done by the end of the week. I'd love to pledge another unit or two. Thanks for watching. Snorri
  25. Since the release of the new Space Marine codex and the Raven Guard supplement, I feel like space marines have been given a new lease on life. Right before 8th Edition was announced I had decided to start a true-scale project for a new army, and had settled on the Raptors, as the rules they had from Forge World at the tail end of 7th edition were fun and fluffy; and I had always been drawn to the lore of the chapter as a fun contrast to some of the more outrageous concepts in the setting. Once the images surfaced of the the scale of the Primaris Marines, I realized true-scaling was going to be a lot easier than I thought. I began slowly building the force, but didn't get much beyond putting the models together from Dark Imperium before becoming immensely discouraged with the rules of any Space Marine chapter other than Ultramarines. Fast forward to the Shadowspear box set and now this new codex, and I have purchased my tickets on the hype train. My intention is to build, paint, and play a force of Raptors representing the 5th Battle Company. I'm going to have it hew as closely to the codex disposition of a standard Battle Company as much as is reasonable; six Battleline squads, two Fire Support squads, two Close Support squads, and a command staff of one captain and two lieutenants, along with support staff from the Librarius and the Apothecarion. This will be a very infantry heavy force, to represent the fighting style of the Raptors: long term forward infiltration of heavy equipment as well as crew and support sections that then can support heavy infantry shock assaults, focusing on decapitation strikes and the swift reduction of the command and control capabilities of the enemy forces. The following images showcase the almost completed portions of the force, mostly the Battleline squads and the command section. Also, apologies if this is not the place to be posting this, as I figured my fellow followers of Corax would get the biggest kick out of this progress log! First up is the members of the command staff that I consider finished, except for a few minor touch-ups. Two lieutenants, each usually charged with leading a demi-company, and the Apothecary assigned to the company. I'm still deciding on whether or not he should have company markings to match the rest of the force. Next is the unfinished fellows from the command staff, the Captain and the Librarian. Both still need more paint as well as decals and to have thier bases finished. These three big boys are the first fire support squad, deployed in Centurion armor. They may not look like it, but a lot of conversion work went into these models, both in order to make them taller so that they would still scale well with primaris sized marines, and to have a sleeker, more exoskeleton feel than standard centurions. All the following images are of the battleline squads, 3 in phobos armor deployed as infiltrators, and three in tacticus armor deployed as intercessors. I still need one more infiltrator squad before these are all done, and I am finishing up the third intercessor squad. They just need decals. I've made some good progress, especially considering this has been a few years now, but I still have a ways to go. I'm still finishing up the rest of the Shadowspear box, and I'm hoping that one of the holiday box sets has phobos marines in it. Once I have those parts and an Invictor, I think I'll have all the models that I'll need, and it'll just be time to finish them all. Emperor give me strength!
