Iron Warriors 5th Grand Company re-born - Army log

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the comments :D

You're a bad man IP. I'm trying to reduce my shopping list and now you make me was to add brass for the three 40k Vindicators I still haven't done. Lucky they don't do Slaanesh or Divine Slayers brass

Just to say you could use plasticard?  I use 0.5mm plasticard for icon, just see my Rhino hatchies.  There really easy to do:
- Find a image of the icon you want

- Scale it down on the computer & then print (usely print a few just make sure I get the scale right)

- Double side tape paper onto the plasticard

- Use ruler & start cutting following the image.  Just take time & be careful, don't rush cutting it or you may find out you have to do all the above all over again

- Then just remove paper & file the sort of mold line the scalp (sp) will make when cutting.

I got a lot of my plasticard from my college course.  They use to joke they'd hear in the news one day about a house falling & just a whole pile of plasticard spilling out of the house/the cause of it.

Tjis is really an inspirational thread! Really great. I am startign my chaos army and I was torn between IW and WB, your thread has decided it for me. Thanks!

Thanks.  You should get a army log on the go?  Be great to see other people great armies :D

Iron Warriors side of things.

The FW Dreadnought been order & I'll be getting that in a week & a half for my birthday.  I've got a few idea for conversion & as said I'm taken next week off.  So it look like I'll be getting the Dreadnought built on Sunday afternoon which I've planned to get some hobby done.  Just need to try find a Dreadknight model I bought a while back, not been easy finding some models after move house :(

Like wise - I recently pick up a Leman Russ.  I try over the past while to start a Chaos Guard army.  But somthing got in the way of getting the army off the ground.

Then the Storm Trooper got release & they where really cool.  I've seen a few armour company armies kicking about here & somthing about seen those armies on the gaming table, all painted & look cool.  So I though be cool to do a Chaos version of a armour company.  Also a lot of my friends have said it be great & give me a excuse to try useing the guide in the Forge World model master class book 1, which show a great guide on a Chaos Guard tank.

So right now I'm still working on the models & might get some painting done for this during my week off.  Right now I have my Storm Trooper (Veterans with 4+ save) shown in past update.  Three Leman Russ now, with one bought during the weekend.

The aim for the Chaos Guards was to ally with my Iron Warriors & as a stand alone army.  So if all goes to plan, I hope to have this army all finish by Christmas, while also adding models to my Iron Warriors & Space Wolves (army log kicking about on these forums :D )

Looking forward to your take on a Chaos Guard army as I'm working on one myself.

It pretty much going to be tank heavy as I like useing Mech heavy armies.  I did have a Armour company list writen up in 6th ed, but 7th ed given me a bit more freedom & allowed me to get the models I want.  But I'll add on to this army in the near future as well as I really like the new plastic storm trooper.  The tank commander, with the Leman Russ I just bought that the weekend been converted useing the Storm Trooper body.

So if all goes to plan during my week off.  They'll be getting painted during the week or that least Sunday 7th? afternoon or Monday 8th.  Just need to get new can's for the spray gun.

It'll be great to see what your Chaos Guards look like.  Just I like how 6th & 7th ed allow ally so allow me to test out the army a bit or just get a handful of models I like just for painting wise.  Then in the future go on to also have it possible as a stand alone army as well.

That's my plan as well. I originally was gonna use them as cultists but then started to have ideas for traitor guard so moving that way now. I have the new storm troopers and about 20 Cadians and some Bullgryns so far. Not started on the tanks yet although I'll be giving my StormLord to the traitor guard.

Update

With my week off starting, where I will be aim to get a few days toward the hobby.  I've just spent a few hour there getting my long over due Land Raider built.

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08443_zpsd252ba4e.jpg

Belive it or not, I just tidy my desk a few moment before this after getting my friend Space Marine army near finish (it 98% near finish, just base & battle damage to paint on the Marines).

The Chaos boxies are for my brand new unit of Iron Warriors for the local tournament that the end of Oct time.

Along with sort out my brand new shelfs

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08439_zpsa73214a3.jpg

Tidy up the old shelfs as well

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08438_zpsb2e92149.jpg

So I spent a few hour getting my long over due Land Raider fully built so it will be ready for painting during tomorrow afternoon & Tuesday.

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08447_zps66b382a9.jpg

This is going to be Lord Narach own Land Raider.  I wanted to try make it stand out a little bit from the two Land Raider I got in my Iron Warriors force.  But same time not to go to much, see it more as a command tank.

I've added a Red Scorpain Chaplain trophy base on my friend army after the epic 7000pt game back in June.  While the other trophy are Nids which will be base on my local GW store manger own army they started back 2009 & the other Marine trophy will be Ultramarine.

Chaos Guards

After seen a few Armour company theme armies kicking about here & all really great painted.  It one of those armies that make you want to collect one as well.

I have try starting Chaos Guards over the past few years.  But now I'm shove this army forward.  I'm going to be re-painting the tanks you already see here.  While the un-painted Leman Russ is going to be my Tank Commander.  The Demolisher tank was found last week, it suffer a bit from the house move last year.  It missing a hull weapon & the track guards.  But they can easily get sorted with the amount Leman russ I'm aim on getting over the next while.
As said before I like useing Mech armies, I just like tanks.

I will be aim to paint this army following the guide from the Forge World model master class book 1

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Modelling-Supplies/IMPERIAL-ARMOUR-MODEL-MASTERCLASS-VOLUME-ONE.html

I think you can see one of the pagies on there guide on a Chaos Guard tank.  Also GW are release a new colour spray paint which will help a lot.

I'm planning on getting the Leman Russ painted on Sunday afternoon.

So I'm looking forward to have a week off & getting the Land Raider painted from tomorrow afternoon & Tuesday.

Very nice looking land raider, the head popping out of the hatch, is that a beserker helm with the wings filled off?

Yes, the T face bezerker head.  I use them a lot along with the Helmets from the Red Scorpian Honour Guard & starting to make more use of the MkIII helmet from the Heresy range of models.

I'm also looking to use the plastic knight looking head from the Venrable Dreadnought kit as well, one of the current Breacher have that.

Love the attention to detail and bits catalogue you have always used, and the dread helm idea.

The care really does make your projects shine.

Thanks :D

When it come to a army, I just have a set image how I see that army & how I want them to look for my own models/painting/gaming.  One plan in the future is to collect all 9 Legion, just how each one would look complete diffrent & I also think with the release of FW Heresy era models has added more to this with bitz.

Also when seen a movie, tv show or computer game, it more stuff like armour that I notice.

I should have a update on Tuesday on the Land Raider :D  I'm also going to start building a few squad memeber for the new Breacher unit during the next few days as well.

Can't wait to see it painted. I haven't started painting my tank yet. I am curious, do you use washes on them? I am worried it won't work like it does on the models.

Yes I use the Games Workshop shade's for pretty much all my models.  When it come to tanks just try make sure it does pool.  Ether use a damp cloth/paper or before apply the paint add a little medium only, only do these if no other paint going over the armour.

It usely - Leadbelcher, Black Wash, Pruple wash, Black Wash, Leadbelcher (Dry Brush with tank brush), Rune Fangsteel (Dry brush w/Tank brush), black wash (not heavy/light wash) this just help & shade any part the dry brush has gotten into & highlight with Rune Fangsteel.

Just came back from Stirling castle, just I don't live to far away from the castle & usely like to go there, always find it help clear my head a little bit.  But I've been waiting until tourist season had finish before going up there.  Then going to HMV to pick up few DVD to watch while painting the Land Raider laster on today - Captain America 2 & Iron Clad 2.

I usely watch TV, watch DVD or have music or Games Workshop audio on the go while I paint that home.

But the Land Raider undercaoted & just waiting on this to dry now :D

Funny how you mention going to a tourist attraction to think, cos i lime going and sitting down Windsor Great Park, a small walk from Windsor Castle to do my thinking but this time of year its swamped with tourists and kiddies. Ruins the peace and quiet.

Thanks for the tutorial! I will give it a try

No worries & if your ever unsure always try painting on a spare model.  I got a damage Rhino I use for cutting plasticard armour plates & also for try out things like weather powder.  or the clip together Space Marines.

When I was leaving, there was a line of 50 people all in a single line while the other ticket part where close.  I'm not all that keen on busy place & more so when people get in my way, I general hate it when slow people are in the way or walking as a wall of people not moving aside for you.

It same with Edinburgh, I usely avoid it during July & Aug (Festival time as well during then) due to how busy it get, how a 10 min walk turn into 45 min.

Update

I spent yesterday afternoon & best part of today painting the Land Raider while also watching Captain Armerica 2 & Iron Clad 2, the dvd's I pick up from HMV.  So here how the model looking so far:

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08459_zps04e33506.jpg

Since the photos where taken, I added a bit of metal battle damage.  Right now it just the detail left to finish, few highlight, icon's.  Then just to get the model varnish, add Blood for the Blood god onto the Chaplain & then get the Forge World weather powder added.  That'll get done on Saturday night & part of Sunday afternoon.

Photo from yesterday to show my friend (Red Scorpian oppent from 7000pt game before they move to the USA)

Also my Iron Warriors contempter Dreadnought arrive yesterday afternoon just a hour after I got back

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08452_zpsf3cf4906.jpg

So need to wait a few days.  Not sure what to do as I also got the SoH version for the conversion.  Be honsty I not been all to keen on the Contempter Dreadnought, however the SoH one seem to be the one that stood out the most for me.

Also seen great conversion like Brother Heinrich recent one.  Check back to Sept time for Throne of Skulls, Eddie Fallen Angels.  Or my Alan, who SoH models I shown a few post back recently added one to his army.  It those that led me to buying the model & wanted to convert one for my army :D

I general prefer the standard dreadnought & planning on buying ether another FW Iron Warrior version or a plastic Helbrute with some diffrent weapon lay out.  Just working out conversion idea right now :D  But that'll wait for Call of Chaos.

Right now I ask a few friends for any spare Dreadknight Hammer & Swords, see what I can do.  Also just order the arm's & brass etching today, so that should be here soon as well.

Update

As said in the last few updates, I've had all this week off.  A few of those days where spent getting a new Land Raider built & painted for my Iron Warriors.

Since yesterday, I got the Land Raider varnish & added Forge World weather powder added to the tracks

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08464_zps7714aa1b.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08467_zps4cef0422.jpg

After the photo was taken a few hour ago.  I've got another layer of forge world weather powder added & just a few other detail painted.  Still a few parts left but I should have the Land Raider all finish by today.

New unit who will be bodyguards for Warpsmith Damocles

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08468_zps1c845320.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08469_zpse49abfe3.jpg

The other memeber of the squad should be built soon.  I just need to place a order for the Iron Hands upgread pack's for some bionic parts.
I'm going to try get the unit to be a bit more like the Iron Warrior from this art work from Black Library

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/1280-x-1024-1_zpsae775da8.jpg

The two Iron Warriors just shown there will be finish on Wed & I get the Iron Hands upgread pack order then as well.

Also on Friday (Model arrive on Monday) I got the Iron Warriors Contempter Dreadnought.

As said I've not been to keen on the Contempter look when I seen the models.  Not sure why, just prefer the standard Dreadnought.  But seen a few conversion - Brother Heinrich Night Lords.  Eddie Fallen Angels (ToS Sept).  Alan - Son's of Horus I shown a while back & a few other here & there.  Also the release of the IW version.  I though I should that least add one to my force :biggrin.:  I think the main part is the body from the Son's of Horus, just find it not odd looking.

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08460_zps44071d80.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08461_zps8abdf1be.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08462_zps1966ea38.jpg

http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/Iron%20Warriors/DSC08463_zpsb7fd3a4f.jpg

So very WIP - I'm just waiting on a order from Forge World to arrive, just I was unsure what arm's I was going to give the model until Tuesday during the week there.
I was orignaly going to go with two of the Combat arm & use the Hammer from the Dreadknight kit, try have the model carry the weapon in both hands.
But since getting the Dreadknight weapon oN Thursday there, it look out of scale.  So I think I will be useing the Sword weapon & I will have the Contempter Dreadnought arm with a Autocannon.

I think theme wise, the autocannon help show that he was once a memeber of the Iron Havocs.

I've also got Chaos Brass etching arriving with the order.  So they will be added to the loin cloth & armour plate (remove the Son's of Horus icon).

The left knee pad with the Iron Warrior icon will be undercaoted seprate.  Aim to use White undercaot & then mix Russ Grey with Medium to give it shade.
So hopeful get the Dreadnought painted on Wed.

I was interested to see the Iron Warriors contemptor as I am thinking of getting one to turn into a Iron Hands mortis contemptor, and you have gone and placed a SoH torso on it, lol.

I find the contemptors problem is the legs. Unless you pose them right it makes the model look odd.

The model is cool, but it did not fit what I was going for.  One of the thing with Contempter, I've found the bodies to look odd, only the Son's of Horus one been one that fit what in my mind.

I did glue the right leg by mistake when I was getting the model ready.  By then it was to late & any attempt to sort it would mean the leg would have broken :(

But I think pose wise I'll try go for the one shown in the photo just above the image shown the legs & green stuff on the base.  Spend the last day of my week off getting the Contempter all sorted, as I need to also remove from stuff like the sort of flames from the Son's of Horus model.

With you saying about Iron Hands - that could be a idea with the Iron Hands Iron Father model for the servo arm ether add to this model that a later date or a Dreadnought I'll plan convert for Call of Chaos when that happens.

Been meaning to buy the Iron Father model since Forge World put the model up for order.  I meant to place a advance order when I was down in Warhammer World back in March for Throne of Skulls, but just time got the best of me as I'm always really really busy that events.

Look like the Land Raider very close to being fully painted now.  Just the Tech icon to paint :D

Thanks for the comments.

Forge World weather powder really great to use, since useing them in 2012?  They've a favrout part for me to add to a model.  It take between three layer to four layer just to really build up the colour/look.  Also I use MIG pigmint fixer to seal in each layer, just make sure to have window open, have a dusk mask & a fan as this is a little danger health wise & make sure not to get any of it on yourself.

Also use A4 peper just to keep your desk & cloth tidy, not just that but any left over weather powder can go back in there tube's.  I'm still useing the once I orignaly bought in 2012 & that cover 20+ Tanks & my Ravenwing army & a Knight, all with between three to four layer use, only running low now but I have been stocking up when I've been to Warhammer World.  Same with the MIG pigmint fixer, while I bought a second one a while back to stock up.  The first one I bought 2012 is still going, I think in all there still 60% of the stuff left, not even half way though the fixer when.

When phone Forge World - back then I just said it the first time I was useing the weather powder.  They where really helpful & help pick the colour tie toward the paints I use to paint the base.

Also it worth checking out the Forge World model masterclass books, there brillaint & show diffrent effect you can get with them.

I just found they've added another leval to my Iron Warriors, give me that war-torn look.  See the Land Raider & just the change it give the model breaking up the metal.

Dreadnought - It my last day of the week off, so going to try get as much work done for the Dreadnought & just waiting to see if my FW order arrive.

Also I've just place a order for my Autocannon arm.  Really looking forward to painting this model in a few days time.  Hopeful get a photo just before undercaot been done or that least when the metal all painted on (due to time that take, it the longest part for painting the IW).
