The Sound of Machines - commission painting thread

That's pretty damn solid work for 30 minutes a model.  Detail like that would take me probably 3 times as long, minimum.  Seems like you got hit by the dreaded matte varnish snow job on one or two, though.

Cheers for that mate, yeah we've worked out this particular scheme pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean re: snow job matte varnish though, we use Secret WEapon Miniatures Crushed Glass, so it's pretty darn shiny... It's a pain to photograph properly though, too reflective.

Here's some more pics of the army - again, very short amount of time/model, but am happy with the coherancy and theme.

The snow effect is generally from poorly shaken varnish, old varnish, varnish used too close to the model, and/or in too humid of an environment.  You end up with little white specks all over the models.  I just see a similar thing going on with a handful of models, particularly in the close ups.  The one model you took a close up of in the last series of photos looks that way on his legs in particular.

But whatever, still good work. :)

Some of the latest from the table. Again, these are only the Power Armoued models, we've done heaps more! :)

I'm liking the dark blue!  Much more menacing than red.

For nitpicks- the gaps in the bikes (down the middle and the tires) could have easily been filled and sanded for a better look.  And it seems like something went wrong with the boss's shoulder wing ornament thingy.  Looks like his sword could use a touch up too, from this angle anyway.

Sure thing mate - I just use oil paints to wash instead of acrylics or enamels. Sorry it's nothing more exciting than that! Give it two thin coats of black/brown oil paint and then go back with a sponge and some thinner and dab/stipple some of the wash off.

Here's a landspeeder (not related, but just finished):

I really like your iron warriors. could you so kindly tell me how you painted your iron warriors and how you got that gritty iron effect?

Chaos Land Raider, now with AUTHENTIC BATTLE DAMAGE!

That's beautiful, man. Look at how scuffed and messed up its armour is! Huge las-burns and craters, yes, lovely. Not like those horrible, pristine Land Raiders that look like they're fresh from the Forgeworld. This one has character.

Keep up the fine, corrupted work!

Od.

Woof. I just can't bring myself to do that to such an expensive hunk of otherwise worhtless plastic teehee.gif

You should definitely give it a go! Battle damage can make a centrepiece like a Land Raider look truly war-worthy. I dream of one day assembling an Ork Battlewagon, then SMASHING it with a lump hammer and reassembling it. :D SERIOUS damage!

Hmm. Well, if you buy me a Landraider to try it out on, I'd be happy to give it a go msn-wink.gif
