I'm not sure what you mean re: snow job matte varnish though, we use Secret WEapon Miniatures Crushed Glass, so it's pretty darn shiny... It's a pain to photograph properly though, too reflective. Firepower Posted March 19, 2013 Share Posted March 19, 2013 The snow effect is generally from poorly shaken varnish, old varnish, varnish used too close to the model, and/or in too humid of an environment. You end up with little white specks all over the models. I just see a similar thing going on with a handful of models, particularly in the close ups. The one model you took a close up of in the last series of photos looks that way on his legs in particular. For nitpicks- the gaps in the bikes (down the middle and the tires) could have easily been filled and sanded for a better look. And it seems like something went wrong with the boss's shoulder wing ornament thingy. Looks like his sword could use a touch up too, from this angle anyway. This was a 10 hour job, I was only paid to colour them in, not fix issues in the models. It'd be nice to be paid more to make them 100% as good as I can, but not all jobs are like that :). Give it two thin coats of black/brown oil paint and then go back with a sponge and some thinner and dab/stipple some of the wash off.
