Night Lords 15th Company - In Memoriam...Pg.68

Recommended Posts

I see progress. The painting is really good, I like new armor and glowing eyes.

But again, few tips, if you don't mind:

1. You don't need to cover entire armor with highlights. Try to use them only in places that light may reach. Additional, you might add few patches of reflected light with a very bright paint (something like ice blue in previous citadel range).

2. And I'd add highlights to metallics and red parts.

But it's just my humble opinion. Again, nice work.

Awesome stuff mate the lightning & the OSL is brilliant, you nailed the dark blue midnight clad, how ever it looks as though there are to many highlights like DarkVen said. Keep um coming!

Thanks guys, I did highlight the red parts but I guess they got washed out by the light in my photos, they look good in person trust me ;) As for the armor I agree, though it's too late for these guys I'll try and reduce the highlights on the next batch. though I can probably add some metallic highlights to these guys over the matte coat. I'm glad the OSL came out good, haven't experimented to much with the technique though I'm very pleased with the results!

Little nitpick about the fluff: cerulean blue is more the colour of Ultramarine armour. Midnight blue is probably more appropriate here. Loved the rest of the fluff and I like the look of your models. Keep up the good work.

I really like them ! Great  job Heinrich  I hope we get to see more soon !

Rocking some Parkway Drive and painting this very moment, next batch should be up soon!

Ah thanks! I had no idea, saw Noctus use it and thought, 'hey that looks like another good way to describe the armor'. I had an english teacher in 4th grade who used to nitpick me about using the same descriptive words in a row, so now I'm paranoid about reiterating adjectives lol

Great to see some more paint work! The lightening and source lighting on the plasma gun and eye lenses is particularly impressive :smile.:

Thanks!

Hmm, I might have missed it, but where did you get those round balls for the Mk5 lookalike armour?

1mm Micro beads, you can get them off Ebay, just search '1mm beads'

and now its update time!

The bolter bucked in his red gauntleted hands, launching mass-reactive shells into the shattered angel at his feet. The fallen Space Marine's ruined armor bore the colors and heraldry of the Howling Griffons chapter. Proud, foolish, thin-bloods from Guilliman's seed. Pausing to reload Shaara took in the ruined form of the dead loyalist. Once he had been just as blind to the reality of this universe, full of righteous fury and purpose. Now he knew better, nothing matters but the endless cycle of hunter and hunted. The strong take from the weak, the ancient law of all biological life. Now he bore the midnight armor of the greatest hunters the galaxy has ever known, The Night Lords. Suddenly he heard the scuff of ceramite on stone and the whine of armor servos.

"Face me traitor!"

A second Howling Griffon came thundering down the alley towards Shaara. In his hand a roaring chainsword buzzed with malicious intent. He could see a loaded bolter slung behind the running Astartes. Proud fool, a true hunter uses every weapon at his disposal. Just as Shaara started forward to meet the Griffon's charge a rune blinked into amber life on his helm's display. Shaara grinned. With a thunderous crash a second figure in midnight plate plowed through the alley wall and slammed into the charging Space Marine. Deftly maneuvering around the swinging chainsword, the second hunter pinned the Howling Griffon's free arm behind his back and rammed a wicked looking combat blade up into the shoulder joint of his gold and crimson armor. The knife thrust was perfect, a technique honed to perfection through centuries of killing his brother Astartes. Before the Howling Griffon could attempt to counter his second opponent, Shaara brought his chain-bayonet down in a vicious cut to the trapped Marine's torso. Reversing his grip on the hand guard he pushed down on the whining blade as it bit deep and chewed into his prey. To fight fair was to fight with one hand pinned behind your back. The second armored figure dropped the dying Marine into the dust and nodded to Shaara.

"If you're done here, we need to rally with Herak at the sigma confluence."

The gravely tones of Sevac's voice issued through the brutal faceplate of his winged helm.

"Ready when you are. Where is Lucorus?"

"Here."

The voice was tinged by mechanical distortion. Shaara turned to see Lucorus stalk around a corner, a glowing plasma gun gripped in his midnight fists. Half of Lucorus' face was bionic, a red glowing eye sat opposite a pure black one, the hallmark of a true Nostraman son. The Skulls of slain heroes dangled from the chain draped across his left shoulder. Shaara nodded to the veteran warrior, deferring to his command like a jackal recognizing the presence of a lion. Lucorus spoke with his harsh mechanical voice again.

"Let's move."

I went a little overkill on Lucorus' highlights, but I think I've improved on my technique with Sevac and especially Shaara. Let me know what you guys think. As for the rest of 1st Claw, the next three as well as Sgt. Vadrek, should be done this weekend. C&C Welcome, as always.

Thanks guys, I made the mistake of writing fluff for those first three guys, so now I've doomed myself to naming and fleshing out this entire army. The hardest part is coming up with unique names, especially for Night Lords because they don't seem to follow any particular conventions or culture outside of 'that sounds evil'.

Hey man, be proud of those names! :) I love reading plogs where the incredibly well put together and painted stuff has a well put together identity, even if it's just a name. This is something I need to start incorporating, but I fear the attachment I may get to my minis through it would comprise my ruthlessness as a toy solider strategist:yes:

My thought process was to use things like sounds a knife would make or things you could with a knife, or even just sibilant words that just slide off of your tongue and then just screw with them from there until I found something I liked.

Surprisingly, this was not how I came up with my name on BnC.

Haha thanks, I completely understand. I spend all this time making guys like Herak and Lucorus sound like total eternal badasses, when I know in reality how fast they'll all die when they encounter a squad of Dire Avengers with doom and bladestorm lol.

Love the paint run on the crossed out RG symbol.

Thanks! I wanted it to come off as a hurried, irreverent act, like he was impatient to be separated form his past.

Yup, me three, Shaara in particular is a fabulous example of marine, great work brother!

Thanks! I can't wait to start painting 2nd claw, the Minotaur and Carcharodon renegades are my favorites.

I really love your conversions and the paintjob. It fit's so well to the background of the Night Lords, it's seem you worked and painted together with ADB, please Keep on!

Wow that's quite the compliment, thank you! I loved AD-B's books and can say they were a huge inspiration and a valuable insight to the soul of what has now become my favorite legion.

love your nightlords!! after seeing what you dark ven and others are doing and  with what I learned from Dan i'm really gonna have to up my work and focus on my own 8th legion. having them on the back burner while waiting for massacre might have been a bad thing but with all your work i'm inspired to get back to them early. Thanks for the inspiration and looking forward to more!
