The Lost and Forgotten: Building the II Legion

Thinking more about the specialists, is it possible that an Oni or Volta could become a Sentinel?

I hadn't clocked the Oni's nagamaki sword before. Neat.

Also, while we wait for fresh Lightning Bearers news, I wrote this for the Icarion Insurrection but realised it could also work in canonverse, so I'm gonna just leave it here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320524-brotherhood-of-the-lost-the-stories/page-3?do=findComment&comment=4431083

Reading properly about the Astral Colleges for the first time, I'm really reminded of the Edge Chronicles and their floating city of academics.

Perhaps in the course of their trials, aspirants are sent down into the storm wastes to seek archeotech and other relics of old Madrigal, with the goal of eventually rendering the entire surface habitable again. Btw, is Icarion meant to have sought out and bested the Thunder King, and how heavily does he figure in the world's consciousness?

Wow.... I-I only just discovered this page, and this Legion, but I just want you to know I'm so deeply impressed and inspired by all this. The thought and effort you put in to the Thunder Legion is breathtaking. I don't even have to read it all to know that this is who I'll think of whenever I picture the 2nd Legion now. I'm serious, I'm unofficially adopting this Legion for my own fan-version of the lore.

I also have to say that it's almost.... Spooky, that part where you mentioned the Major Arcana. I had never even heard of it before today, but after reading those pages I just had to stand back and say 'wow'. Did... Where did these come from? Is this an official thing? We're the Primarchs really based on these Arcana, or partly inspired by them?

I say spooky because (and I hope this doesn't come across as arrogant), but for the last year and a half I've been working on my own Legion, a personal version of the Eleventh. As I said, I had never seen this page before, or for that matter seen anyone's version of a Lost Legion (except for 1d4chan) and this... The last arcana, Fortune. I'm reading it now, and it just blows my mind, because so much of Fortune's personality matches what I wanted for my Primarch. The optimism, the fun nature, the love of family, so Exactly what I pictured. It's unreal.

Well, I'm settled on it now. There's no way I'll be able to match all the effort you've put in, but if nothing else I'm going to have a picture made of my Primarch, by this same artist Ibrahem if I can get him. Maybe I'll post it on here when I'm done. (Probably get so much rage for it ;) Thank you so much for this, it is truly inspiring. Good fortune in your future endeavors. Till next time.

Pending a name change and the approval of Athrawes, in another Galaxy Sentinel Raiden is heading down a very different path. I might try and rework this for the canon universe sometime (with a different McGuffin) http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320524-brotherhood-of-the-lost-the-stories/page-4?do=findComment&comment=4523332

Never seen another lost Legion? Damn, we're still flying way under the radar then

Aww, sorry Bluntblade. I'm still new around here, but I've long heard about people's aversion to projects like this, so I've been wary about getting involved in them. Not to mention they're scattered all across the forums.

.... does anyone know of a directory or list somewhere that gathers links to different Lost Legion Projects?

Should I start one? Like make a post and ask people to link their different ideas to it.

Just have a look into the special projects forum. Especially here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/forum/103-brotherhood-of-the-lost/

Yo also found this miniature from Kingdom death kickstarter that would be a hell of a Base for you Primarch with a head and leg swap. Also seems to be the right scale.

That is a fantastic model, could be a great basis for an alternate Icarion.

I know I've been late with updates in this thread, I've basically taken the year off. The plan has and remains that once my Inferno comes out and my Thousand Sons are complete, I will be returning to reboot this project, with many of the new skills I have acquired.

There is a unit of 5 Volta Terminators on my work desk that are assembled and have been starring at me for a year, I should really do something about that...

I just heard about this on the Age of Darkness podcast. Damn son. This is really impressive work and is now officially my headcanon.

A couple of things why I think this version of the II is so satisfying to me:

1. The Emperor did tell someone about chaos! He just decided that he would only tell the one guy he specifically made to fight it. This makes all kinds of sense and makes the emperor seem a lot less stupid. The regret and failure he must have felt for having to purge that very same legion also explains the emperor's reluctance to tell anyone about the warp ever again and keep his own webway project a deliberate secret as well.

2. It solves all of my problems with Russ. All of them. His unofficial executioner role and his own reinforcement of it. His undoubtable loyalty to the emperor. His grim demeanor. The respect that most of the other primarchs have for him. His hatred of Magnus and his hatred for sorcery. Suggestion: If Icarion and Russ are supposed to be best buds, why not have a moment in the lore where Icarion and the Lightning Bearers help/instruct the Space Wolf runepriests on how to safely use and control magic? That would be an amazing reason why Russ, The Emperor and a some of the other primarchs are completely fine with the runepriests while at the same time condemning Magnus for sorcery and disbanding the librarius. And again: there's the inbuilt 'lost legion' reason why they can't explain this properly. This whole thing has the potential to make Russ the instantly likeable/relatable character he deserves to be and make up for his Worf-effect battles with Angron, Horus and the Lion.

3. The whole samurai thing is amazing and it's a flavor we've been missing in the heresy. The artwork is nailing it and making me wish for GW/BL/FW to just make this thing canon already. Your models are also an amazing proof of concept that is hard to deny. I would love to see some more complete army photo's of what you've got so far.

4. I really hope ma boi Corax and the Raven Guard find a place somewhere in the seige of Madrigal. Did you find a place for it on the timeline already? Had all the primarchs been found before the II's destruction? So far I'm just seeing tragic but honorable swordfight duels erupting all over the place between Lightning Bearers and famous astartes from the other legions. It would be interesting to know if people like Khârn, Lucius, Sevatar or Sigismund would have been there. The sisters of silence must have been there as well then, right? If the Lightning Bearers were a psychic legion?

Wow I just got here from clicking on the link in your signature. This is absolutely amazing work!! THIS is why leaving a couple legions completely undescribed was a brilliant move.
