I, Bjorn Stormfang, accept my role in this.

I promise to lead the XX Legion into the zone of war, and conduct them to glory.

I will do so no matter the ferocity or ingenuity of the foe.

I pledge my honour to the XX Legion.

On this matter, and by this weapon, I swear.

++Unknown Astartes++

++XX Legiones Astartes...Alpha Legion..++

++Liberation of Vyrdant system++

Depicted here is an unknown tactical Astartes of the xx legion operating on one of the primary moon colonies orbiting the central world of the vyrdant system..The system was cleansed of the alien taint and bought into the imperiums fold in a matter of months.

Note that this Astartes has the recently issued mkiv maximus armour (unknown chest plate modification) and standard armament of phobos pattern bolter.

Legion panolopy is believed to be Mortis/Alpha pattern.

I've coincidentally been converting up some Alpha Legion allies for my XVIth. Looking forward to seeing the various takes on the Alpha Legions colour scheme. I see many a spin off army being created with this event. One mini becomes a squad, becomes 1000pts, becomes... I know there are Forgeworld agents working these boards. I see right through your scheming and yet, I fall for it just the same laugh.png

I was wondering if an Alpha Legionnaire in Mark VII plate was acceptable...? I won't get any more period appropriate models until next year.

Although each of my model submissions over the next eighteen months will have their own piece of fluff, I am considering a joint background for all of them.

My models will all be from the Grey Company (or whatever they may finally be called). They are to be a task force during the Unification Era, assembling legionnaires as a mark of penance for whatever questionable actions they'd committed in their own legions. Not so much a 30K Deathwatch as a 30K 'Dirty Dozen'. I don't see them as an elite best-of-the-best - that wouldn't make sense to me.

As each of the twenty 'Grey Legions' were making their own mark in history, attaining their new colours and names of distinction, these 'troublesome' legionnaires would still be made to serve the Emperor.

What do you think? Feasible?

Maybe they could be known, unofficially, as 'Legion XXI'. Or maybe only as the '21st Company'.

I must say this came rather handily, as I was considering painting a contingent of Alpha legion..

That's one of the main purposes of the March - to get people painting something they might not have considered, or take the plunge on something they had.

Do models need to be created especiallly? I ask as I've been doing something similar off my own initiative and for 7 legions I can already contribute somebody appropriate; obviously I don't want to cheat though!

It's a little more relaxed than Grot's conversion contests. :)

I think the spirit of the thing is more important than total armor and bolter mark accuracy.

Aaaaand you've stolen my idea.

Apologies for the editing, and any spelling errors, but just finished my first fluff draft, so thought I might share it to whet your appetites while I wait for my resin to fulfill the model part of my vow.

****EXLOADING DATA****

The subject pictured here bears XX Legion ident-tags marking him as Khel Fareed, an apothecary, attached at time of pict-capture to XX Legion taskforce Kappa-Phi-Erinyes. This is one of the few formations of the Legion specialising in overt counter-insurgency tactics.

It is known that apothecaries attached to such formations are as adept at battlefield interrogation techniques as they are in seeing to the Legion's injured. Indeed, many have a fearsome reputation known even to some outside the Legion. Whispers suggest they are want to practice their skills on their fellow Alpha Legionaries.

No records exist of a Khel Fareed being inducted into the XX Legion. The only extant record matching the name refers to a Terran recruit of the XIX Legion. Taken from the Xeric tribes, that Fareed is recorded to have reached the rank of Sergeant in a reconnaissance squad, before being killed by Eldar pirates in his 23rd year of service.

As it is impossible for these two Legionaries to be one and the same, the identifier used by this apothecary can be assumed to be part of the subterfuge that surrounds the XX Legion. It should be noted, however, that that approximately 1983 records of a similarly anomalous nature have been identified.

Here's some WIP of my Alpha Legionnaire. Just ordered some shoulder pads, so just need to wait on those and I can get painting! Aiming for a metallic blue scheme.

My, this is a brilliant idea. And can't really pass up a Legion pip here, can I?

So,

I, Xin Ceithan, accept my role in this.

I will do so no matter the ferocity or ingenuity of the foe.

Wanted to set up a kill team anyway.

No model as yet since it's going to have to wait for a visit to Warhammer World on Thursday. However here is the bit of fluff I've put together:

++++The following extract is from a damaged audio receptor recovered from the Hall of Leng++++

+++Device bears gene traces of Halvag Gherum Holstrad+++

++Holstrad assigned to [Redacted], under special directive Phi Prime Six++

+Current Whereabouts: Undetermined+

"The Truth you say? Ah that most precious of commodities in a time of falsehood and betrayal. Especially amongst us, the untruthful, the legion of smoky mirrors, the snakes of myth. But I shall give you my truth.because loyalty sometimes demands more than simple acquiescence. Now heed my warning well. Everything I tell you is a lie. The truth is always bigger, more profound, than the words used to give it voice.

I am the inconsistent. My designation is twenty-three-one-one-five-three. I am the eagle of Old Earth, hunting with the dawn at my back and death beneath my wings. I am the Black Blade. Uilleam the Red cast his children at my feet before I fed my weapon, the sable steel bathed in the vitae of his limbs. The Gene-king of Hy Brasil burned his flesh vaults at the mere breath of rumour carried on the wind that I had strode into his domain with those who would be the VI and VIII Legions at my back. Narthan Dume spent his last month of rulership in Pan Pacifica soiling his britches, believing that he would be welded permanently into the Emperor's Throne, the lies spoken by one named Valdor. So you see my curious little creature, the false, the untrue, the fabrications are a weapon sharper than any blade, more explosive than the mightiest firearm, deadlier than any poison."

"My name? My name is [redacted]. Code name Downfall Prime, operation signifier Ruin.I am the nominated champion of the XXIII Legiones Astartes Alpha Legion. And I am loyal to the Emperor of Mankind, beloved by all"

++Metallic clicking sound identified++

+Analysis confirms sound is consistent with a Tigurus pattern bolt weapon having a round chambered or "racked"+

++Incoherent sounds identified++

++Two spikes of sound identified++

+Cognition analysis 89% certainty+

+Sound corresponds to initial discharge of bolt weapon followed by secondary detonation of a Mars grade mass reactive shell+

Yeah so, I just found out why people hate the White GW Spray Primer. Had never had any problems with it before...but today...oh man.

So I had to angrily file paint off the offending areas.... Luckily I didn't botch any large piece off the Model and the subsequent drybrush layer of Necron Compound followed by a coat of Ironbreaker seems to have hidden them well enough.

Will see when it comes to shading.... :x
