1st Concordia Rifles, Company F "Avery's Rangers"- A Plog

The Mad Hermit

Recommended Posts

Hello Gentlemen!

So this is going to be my new project and I intend on making something of it.

You're all used to various WIP logs and the like (I like to think of it as a 'plog' or 'project log') but I would like to entertain the idea that you will have never seen an Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum regiment that looks like this!

So, some spoilers:

These guys will get some primer later on today... after I've slept some... and possibly some paint as well.

I hope to have these two 'proof of concept' Guardsmen painted up by the weekend or, at least, by the end of the weekend.

I have five of them built and waiting for a little later today for me to apply some grit/texture to their bases before priming and the paint that they'll be getting this weekend.

The color scheme is going to be fairly easy for me to do up an entire force of these guys: the greatcoats will be a rich Navy blue with 'buff' accents, the trousers will be a fairly bland brown (I'm thinking Vallejo's English Uniform), the puttees and webbing will all be in khaki, the rest will be browns of one form or another.

The only thing that I'm sticking on is that some of them have feathers in their caps so I'm giving some thought to giving them different colors parts to signify an award of some sort. No idea as to what the colors will end up being as yet, though.

Where I live has a strong sense of pride in the part our locals played during the American War of Independence so my goal, as I envisioned it as soon as I put all those parts together on Anvil's interactive regiment builder, was to make a force that calls back to the Minutemen of the American Revolution.

Hopefully, it all works out to a degree that I won't feel like I wasted money or time.

As a side note, when I made the first two Guardsmen putting the bayonets on the carbines was fiddly as all Hell but with every subsequent one I've built, they went on as smooth as silk. Of course, I've probably just jinxed myself, but oh well.

Thanks for checking out the thread, gentlemen.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, on the 1st of March I went ahead and bought another round of stuff from Anvil, thinking that by the time it got here, I'd be well on my way to having made some progress.

Well.

It arrived in the post today and I'm kicking myself in the butt for having procrastinated but I'm also very mush impressed that everything went from ordered on March 1 to arriving here in the States by March 12.

This second wave consists of another infantry squad and another heavy weapons squad... this one with mortars.

Expect an update soon.

Hello, brothers!

It's been a bit. I apologize for that, but we've had some extensive remodeling done to the apartment and it's not quite done yet... so posting may be slower on this project than I had hoped.

Anyway, here is a couple of pics of the 'proof of concept' Guardsman that I painted up before they put a hole in my roof for a new skylight:

As always, I apologize for the rubbish lighting, but in my defense, it is nearly 2:00 AM here right now and my best lamp died not a couple of hours ago.

Thank you, brothers.

I thought it would be a fairly unique-looking force among all the great examples here in the Armory.

As for the Colonial Rebel colors? I'm a proud descendant of one of those self-same rebels. ;)

The bulk of the stuff I have is infantry, but I do have a (very old kit) Leman Russ and a Sentinel. I also have some Ogryns and some Ratlings.

Should be an interesting mix of stuff.
