New guys are looking good, nice use of chaos warrior bits and Khârn's 30k helmet! How was the venom crawler to paint? Also great job on 3rd place! What did the Death Guard field if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you gaurdian! The Venomcrawler was nice and easy to paint, maybe I'm the odd one out but I find painting vehicles way easier and quicker due to their size and mostly flat panels. Slight mistakes I would go back over on an infantry model are just embelishments on vehicles, like chipped paint or battle damage.

The Death Guard list was nasty:

Morty

LoC with permenant Transhuman

5 PM with all the upgrades

10 Pox Walkers

3 Deathshroud

MBH

He got 1st turn and charged Morty in and killed the Rhino. I made 2 main mistakes: I didn't dedicate my entire force to removing him and I didn't Death Hex him with Huron.

If I had turned my entire force to deal with him, I would have killed him T1 I think. Instead I pushed the bikes up either side to try to slow down the rest of the army. Corsairs have the speed and movement shenanigans that still being in my deployment at the end of T1 wouldn't have been an issue if I had dedicated everything to dealing with Morty. Instead I didn't quite have enough to deal with him and meant that I lost the Crawler, MoK marines and some of the Balefire tome marines by the end of T2 when I finished him off with Huron.

If I had also Death Hexed him, the MoK marines and Crawler would have mulched Morty very quickly. For the first time playing the Corsairs it was a great result! And the entire army had NPMS (Newly painted model Syndrome)

yea I'd echo that. The army looks so good. And they are fun to play... a little more dynamic than IW and it feels they have a few more tricks. (I just love the double models on objectives more than advance/charge and think it is massively under appreciated).

Thank you Prot! They're definitely one of the more dynamic legions to play and that's something I want to trial more as I play more games with them. The fall back after fighting with Bikes is huge and something I took advantage of in most games. The Dark Raider WLT is something I want to play around with too as I think it would pair really well with a Lord Disco/Winged DP and Bikes or with a Lord and Havocs/Termies/Chosen.

The Advance and charge part is great for threatening your opponent. If you get within X" I will almost certainly charge you with this scary unit.

I also think Bikes work better as a gunplatform than a combat unit but they are able to pull double duty if it's needed. Something I did feel I was missing was some heavier firepower. Havocs are cool but can be quite slow and not particiularly tough. I've been mulling over a Sicaran for a while now (I was particularly impressed with how well they've been doing in Beard's League list on Tabletoptactics) and with the vouchers I won from coming 3rd picked one up:

Colours are blocked in, washes are down so now it's just the highlights, tidy up and details to do!

Looks fantastic! The new Sicaran is a great kit, so much better than the old resin one.

It really is a beaut! The only bit I had an issue with was getting the two sets of tracks to sit properly with the bottom panel. It was through my own kack-handedness to be fair

That sicarian looks so good! That DG does sound quite rough. Glad to hear the venom crawler isn't too fiddly to paint. What do you plan to add next? Are you going to pick up some possessed? I used them the other day and they hit really hard.

Cheers gaurdian! After the Sicaran is done, I've got 2 main things I'd like to do which is to finish off the Raptors and to also do the Chosen.

The Raptors are ex-Night Lords, with pads and helmets and are a good chunk of the way to being done.

The Chosen aren't started but I have Tortuga Bay MK4 marines and a load of bits to kitbash them. Although the new Chosen are fantastic, they're too chaos-y and mutated for me, as my Corsairs are more Renegade marines than Chaos Marines. My idea is to sculpt some spikes and trim onto the Tortuga minis, give them a whole host of weapons, helmets and backpacks and have them as a Retinue for Huron. The fluff idea I have for them is that they're some of the remaining Astral Claws that are minor lordlings and champions, that Huron recalls to be his Retinue. We'll see how the build process goes!

Possessed are on the agenda too as I think they work excellently for Corsairs. I've already got an idea for modelling and fluff for these guys that follows on from the Space Wolves that joined Huron. I'd imagine that Space Wolves that feel the Curse of the Wulfen are more likely to fall to possession than most other marines, so I'm thinking of kitbashing Wulfen with the new possessed to create very feral Possessed. I've got plenty to work on in the mean time though

Wow. You show a pic of the Tank, and the next picture it’s done!

at first I saw a metallic primer and thought okay that makes sense, it’s going in his Iron Warriors!…. Nope. Corsairs.  So why this army instead of the siege masters?

I personally dedicated so many of my new chaos to Iron Warriors I can’t continue the Corsairs, but I always see your new stuff in this thread and think… damn I gotta go back to Corsairs!

Great job as always. I want to know how it does. I don’t have a subscription to TTT, and all I saw was Beard getting hammered by Emperor’s Children, so I’ll take your word for it. I have an unpainted, old resin Sicarian, so I’d love to know what you think and why you dedicated it to the RCs.

Thank you Prot! The photo above was only the base colours and washes done, I've only just highlighted the red but still need to highlight the black, metal and do all the details like the skulls and lenses

The red highlighted makes the colour pop a lot more althought the highlights themselves are largely not noticable outside of the photobox:

As for why the Corsairs over the Iron Warriors, currently it's mainly down to 2 main things:

My Iron warriors have a lot of ranged firepowered vehicles where as my Corsairs only have a maximum of 24" guns and also I will definitely be getting a Sicaran for the Iron Warriors at some point too

I think the tank should work well for the Corsairs as a mobile firebase that also works thematically well with the force (everything goes fast). With a 2+ armour save on top of 14W, it's not going anywhere particiularly quickly and should work as either a distraction (if the enemy decide not to shoot my fast stuff) or it should work well as a damage deal if they decide to shoot my fast stuff.

We'll see how it goes:sweat:

#drillyourgunbarrels!

Just kidding.  They all look amazing.

I've only drilled my gun barrels once... Never again

In all seriousness though, it's not a step that I find myself needing to do as it's a small and time consuming detail most people don't notice

I got the Sicaran done over the weekend. Usually as I'm painting things up I have some fluff ideas for the unit, for this guy I figured that the Hounds of Huron (bikes) would need someone to direct them to find weak spots in enemy lines and deal with the more heavily armoured targets that they aren't able to. As Sicarans are one of the fastest tanks, I figure it's as good as any to keep up with bikes:

*Blows off the dust*

It's been a little while

10th ed is rapidly approaching and it's about time I take stock of the armies I have, the stuff I have left to do with them and how I want to proceed with them. My Iron Warriors have recieved most of my focus for 9th, I think it's about time I bring my Corsairs up to speed.

Currently, I have about 1.2k points (of today's money) painted up, in the form of:

Spoiler

Huron Blackheart

18 Marines with various equipment

10 Bikes (6 Outriders, 4 old style)

Venomcrawler

Rhino

Sicaran Battle Tank

yhXOEJe.jpg

So what's next?

Before my attention was poisoned by the Obliterator virus, I had gotten a good few basecoats down on the next wave of reinforcements:

They've got ages to go yet but the Raptors, Helbrute and Sorcerer are all well on their way to be joining the Bloodreaver's forces. After these guys I also have another 12 marines to bring me up to 30 Legionnaries total, 5 Terminators and also the Chaos half of the Soul Forge King box. Although, I'm not too sure on the Obliterators in the Corsairs force, mainly because I've been trying to keep the more mutated stuff to a minimum (outside of engines) so they may go towards the IW. The Cultists will definitely be here for list filling purposes as I always try to take as many marines as I can

I've got a few models to paint as gifts for friends' birthdays coming up but I'll soon be plowing on with these

A nice and quick paintjob for the Sorcerer/Master of Executions, there's a couple bits I need to tidy up and also complete the base but otherwise I'm very happy with how this guy came out especially in the time spent!

Still very WIP but I made some more headway with a Raptor. As they're more of a Corsair-aligned unit, they still have some of their Heraldry in the form of the pad:

These look absolutely incredible bud! Love what you’ve done with them. Just an fyi - in that pic with the reinforcements and the dread, it looks like one of the dreads siege claw grinding bits is on the wrong claw surface? Just thought I’d mention it as I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not :)

I don't know how I didn't spot that when putting it together or painting it, it's actually so obvious once pointed out! I've broken it off and put it on the wrong way round and will be going in for a session of the Pain Glove

I had a productive weekend and got the first 5 Raptors completed and the next 5 a good chunk of the way there!

Cheers Prot!

Usually I batch paint models by taking 5 models at a time, getting the basecoats, washes and details/highlights all done at the same time. With this project I'm only basecoating and washing 5 before splitting them up individually to paint. Too much bloody trim

Next fly-boy is done:

I was having a bit of building evening as I finished building a gift for a friends birthday, I had some bits come in for a Daemon Prince I've been planning for the Corsairs. My plan for this guy is that he's an ex-Mantis Warrior who joined Huron after Badab:

Still loads to go and it's very rough atm but I'm liking where it's going so far. 40k needs more spears honestly

I also didn't realise that I've been doing this project for a year now!
