That’s why my head canon rejects Swallow’s stuff and the Sanguinor business.

It is easier with his 40K BA work because it has been retconned (the timeframe for the BA civil war in his 40K series is the same time DoB and all that stuff is happening, so it literally can’t be the same).

Fabius Bile: Manflayer seems to allude to it:

"Skalagrim grunted. ‘I also heard Sanguinius’ whelps put a price on his head. He seems to have offended them quite badly.’

‘A discontinued experiment,’ Saqqara said. ‘Though, apparently, some good did come of it. At least to hear him tell it.’"

Actually "The Herald of Sanguinius" was written by Andy Smillie, not Swallow.

True, and some of it was in Abnette’s unrembered empire (wasn’t it?)

But it’s tied in with the stuff set in Fear to Tread. Like FtT set the tone.

Possibly, but I mean that can be explained by just about anything (such as him at any point trying to clone Sanguinius).

Yeah the nod and wink at swallows earlier BA stuff is great, and so vague that it in no way brings those sorry works into cannon. The fact that a chapter civil war is never mentioned or a fake second coming of sanguinius in the codex, the dante trilogy, the mephiston trilogy or the scattering of other BA books lays them firmly to rest i would say,
