Warhammer Day (14th October) - Ancestors’ Wrath + Preview Stream

Recommended Posts

Of all the possible minis to make for the 40th anniversary of Warhammer, why did they pick an alternate sculpt of a generic character for an army that has only existed for a couple years in its current form?

Bugman, the white dwarf, the black gobbo, Harry the hammer are all more "warhammer" than this lady is. Likewise if they wanted a 40k model there's more than enough characters needing updated minis or exciting people they could bring back. Doomrider for example, or a legion of the damned character, maybe a phoenix lord or vect? Lots of choices.

But no, whe have generic not dwarf nor squat 4.

I'm not a big fan of the bare head but I'm a huge sucker for models resting their shield like this. I will pick this model up for when I start a LoV collection in the future. Given the road map for 40k I'm guessing the preview will show us Admech and perhaps Necrons.

It's definitely a cool looking model, although I don't play Votann. I might grab one just because it's cool.

That said, I do tend to agree that it might not be the most appropriate choice for the 40th anniversary. They had an opportunity to do something a little more interesting, that unless they announce it at the stream, they clearly missed doing.

Really odd choice for a 40th anniversary model.  It's not special or interesting enough to grab those who don't play LoV and has no nostalgia value to tie to the history of the game.  This is one time I would have given GW a pass on some form of Space Marine because that would be a wide audience representation of 40 years of the game.

Also one of the current store minis is a LoV is there really that much call for another one?  If you want to go back to earliest days why not Eldar or Orks who are iconic in the setting?

I suspect they have a stash of various sculpts they had to pick from for the votann characters and these limited ones are the runners up they couldn't justify continuous mass production for.

Admittedly I was expecting expecting a new Harry the Hammer, or at least an AoS model that could be 'backused' into Fantasy without much grief.

I won't complain as I collect LoV, but it is a bit of a weird choice beyond "they're the newest army in the game, so get a special model to celebrate."

Also they already got a special mini this year with the store anniversary Kahl. At least this one has a legal loadout
