IMG20241203000049.thumb.jpg.a565144ca3ad96f7057db961baad0dc0.jpgThese bad boys are almost go. Should get them done by tomorrow. Being much more productive after a break as I don't spend half the day procrastinating. Will man up and finish DC and Astorath by end of next week (half done) and I bought some scouts I'll get around to Christmas time.

Might even buy a gladiator executioner or a land raider after how much fun I had on the Baal.

Detail

Starting to bring these guys together.

No way am I finishing the 2,000 points before my battle with the World Eaters but I will have it done by the warplings tournament.

Have  Lemartes and Astorath primed (taking 1) as well as the DC, primed, already with my custom finished bases and a bit of metal work done.

About half way done on DC and about 4/5 done on the SG and captain.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally made it up to Sydney for a holiday and to Catch up with a old friend and World Eaters incarnate.

Was pretty funny. He pulls out 3 illegal blank bases that counted as a Brigands detachment, then did the same with 2 blank bases that were maulerfiends and he ran 2 legit forgefiends.

He ran a squad aof Jackals, 8 bound and Angaron bit we put some other models on the table just for photos. Was a horribly bracketed game and after a couple of Lagavulins and a very late night at SM2 VR (highly recommend) I threw in the towel end of round 2 without picking up a model.

A Ballistus Dread and 3 erradicators couldn't take 4 wounds off Angaron and everything else near was T10+

I didn't even know what blank bases were what by then.

10th is just like that but let him know he's a power gaming a#$hole that I still love.

I hate Khorne but he was in the room. Gabe broke Angaron at the start of the night and I broke the Sanguinor at the end (both repaired) and every advance roll, charge roll and damage roll was very high.

Nearly every advance was a 6".

Some observations about playing World Eaters.

1. If WE go first Angaron is charging something so plan around that.

2. They can actually score and score very quickly. Don't panic if they are 50 points by turn 2. Panic if they are 70 by turn 3.

3. Pretty sure WE shooting phases don't usually go for 25 minutes. Might be the allied Chaos knights. Lol.

4. We really struggle against them of we aren't charging. Especially the daemon engines that are much more mobile.

5. We have a lot more fights first and rapid ingress options.

6. Scout 10 man conga line is almost a must against them. I tried 5 across the mid board and it forced them wide or short and centre. That's very powerful for 120 you can really slow them down.

Didn't learn much else except for minor rules understandings.

Rest of Sydney was very, very good as well so a great holiday and catch up.

Was 7 years in the making.

And finally it was awesome to actually make my Blood Angels fly. They made it there and back safely and was very proud that they are only 4 months old and have already traveled 1,500 km flying.

Might take them to US and Europe later in the year.

  • 11 months later...

After a year off and a lot of traveling have finally settled into cstching up on some painting.

DC have been based and basecoated for a year so time to knock them over.

Bought 3 more SG. 3 can be too few even with a Captain and if I am running them with a captain.....might as well take 6 to max the effect.

Wish Dante added CP. Hes banned until then.

Really excited for Hammernators. Will get a Land Raider next week and use my reg terminators as practice for them.

Love painting terminators. No suprise that they were delayed in Oz. Hope to get them before Xmas.

Finally a Lancer and some scouts.

Well over 2,000 points now (2200) but with the LR, AT and hopefully vanguard vets one day I'll have 3k points.

We really are expensive points wise. I could seriously argue a case for 10% over costed but blind freddy can see we are at least 5% too expensive.

Duplicate.

I am getting a bit lazy. Have the putty but just want to finish the army at this point.

Didnt glue the interior wall in properly.so there was a bit of movement with the chasis. Has two large gaps but dont notice it too much now its based.

Its a nice kit really. Too many antenas however.

Nearly finished Astorath. Nice model, made for dry brushing. Experimenting with the wings but about to reset them to a Eshin dry brush into dawnstone.

This is as close to chaos trim as Ill ever get.

Nearly forgot the Gladiator Lancer finished. Got my eye back in painting on this one, lenses were good prscrice as theres heaps.

Also blending red again. Very excited for the new Hammernators so revisiting a few skills.

20251127_010357.jpg

Also bought a Jucoci case today. Might be the best purchase I make.

I did a few games with cardboard boxes ect but booked in for a few tournaments in the next few weeks so want to get set up quickly. The DC box set literal box wont cut it.

Will need to magnatise the bases of everything but I haven't painted jet pack engine flare yet so will do that when I add magnets.

Will be a good day that. Can close out this project and focus on playing games.

All I have to go now are;

10 x Scouts primed & unassembled.

3 x SG 80% and based.

3 x SG unprimed, unassembled or based.

10 x DC 80% done and based.

1 x Landraider (in the mail).

5 x Assault Terminators (on order).

Will probably add Lemartes, Techmarine and one more squad of DC for just over 3,000 points and

Astorath nearly done. I am not going to dry brush mephiston red back over the armour at this stage but may change my mind once its completely done (metalic highlights, gems and a bit more wash on the jet pack).

Its a lovely model, thought it was a very nice rework and if you are good at dry brushing you could do this in 5 hours to a better standsrd than I have.

Made his hair very grey to kind of match the blonde theme.

I have a secret theory that Astorath isnt Sanguinius's gene seed. He's Custodes or inquisition gene seed thats been embedded into the Chapter to hunt down the really rogue Death Company elements, possibly with Dante's assistance, or even at his direction.

If you can detect rogue DC galaxies away thats a very powerful psychic ability and the black hair reminds me of the emps.

Back to the project at hand, about to rescue these Sanguinary guard from the tournament ready pile of shame.

Have another 3 waiting for their bases to arrive that will be easy work.

Poor DC is bumped again. They are so close to being finished by I am still enjoying painting red as well as gold so have to run with that energy this deep into the project.

wow, really great axe.

Thank you.

Happy to share the formula if you like it (Stegadon, Temple guard, Sotek, Baharoth, white scar).

Basically the Libby in Terminator armour has a similar axe so was good practice. Why I wont probably wont dry brush the armour because I want the axe to be the focus and all the light at the top of the model.

Technically, nothing stop you from drybrush armor and make an axe attention center. you can tone down armor and leave gloss only on brightest parts. Like the one facing up.  cause right now center of attention somewhere on handlebar in-between of hands. You have axe which pretty contrast me looking at it first, then contrast spot of gold near base and  then you  have wings == guiding lines which leading to handlebar, chest and hairs. As always it is IMHO!
