Ork Horde 4:

WP Passed, with Insane Bravery!

With jeers and ribald calls even as their number dwindles, amid the explosions and torrent of fire, the Orks find steel, enough to keep slinging lead. Whether this is crude Orkish bravura, simple stupidity or asinine obstinacy is anyone's guess.

Spoiler

Mag is now 10 or less, so 10 to Hit 'em:

Uldyssian

The greenskins initial attack was all but broken, but the survivors would report their position and more may yet come. As the others picked off the remaining forces Uldyssian set about reinforcing the nearby terrain into a more defensible barricade.

GM: I'll allow Ikka an opportunity to change his Actions because of the 'Brace' rules mix-up.

Players who passed the Perception Test:

Against the background of clamour and deafening - even for your audio circuits - noise of Marines at war, comes the rumble of engines firing up and lurching off. However, the direction dictated by your incredible physiological advantages within the Lyman's Ear, appears to be away from you, the growling engines of light vehicles rapidly withdrawing from both Map East and West directions.

The Orks are taking to their heels, whilst the thinning mob keeps you busy. The Celebrant's words ring strangely prophetic.

GM: Note that Players who passed the Test can act in pursuit immediately. Other Players will be required to 'get into position to respond'. You're not idiots, you're Marines, and you'll know or suspect they're bugging out, or you're convinced of further attack. One way or another, you had your hands full, or not used to working with these warriors, etc etc.

GM: You'll be able to viscon when you move out of the wadi, so there's no need to hide it - there are three buggies. Two are heading map East/SE, and the other is heading West/SW. The western wadi wall is low, and is a simple climb, so no test is required, or you can of course just jump up there, with +10 if you take a Full Move. The Eastern wadi wall requires a Challenging (+0) Climb Test, or a Full Action Run to clear the Wadi basin.

GM: This is MMBD: Miles and Miles Of Bloody Desert. Range is king. Having said that, I will require one Player to roll 1D10 + AG Bonus, and another to roll 1D6+AG Bonus and post the results below. These will be the number of Turns (respectively) the enemy groups have until they reach help. Initiative Order will be re-listed in Round Four (it's the same, but obviously, the setup is different).

ROUND TWO ENDS.

ROUND THREE BEGINS.

Enkush

The running Ork horde remnants were extracting under power, eventually he could make out vehicles.

Gunning his engine he drove out of the wadi to the west, where it was level he sighted three buggies toe-cutting like road-warriors in a split.

He waited for Kur-Dawa to arrive.

++Target preference, Cousin++ he asked.

++My Sire was a gambler, he'd go Sierra Echo. Near the Yurt of the Rising Sun++

He waited for a response.

MMBD 1D10 +AGL Bonus. Result: 10 +6 = 16

Kur-Dawa

With the Orks broken and running it was time to do as the Storm Lord had suggested, run them down so that they could not summon reinforcement. Indeed Enkush was already manoeuvring his bike out of the wadi.

++Then I shall take the other direction, if you think you can handle that one. Securing the ERV is priority and as you said, we cannot let any of them summon more greenskins.++

Turning to the other marines present Kur-Dawa added.

“My cousin and I will hunt down those in flight, if we don’t return you can take it as said that even more of them will flock to the ERV.”

Not wanting to delay he spun around on his bike to begin the hunt while the Celebrant reduced those that had lingered to unlife.

GM: With Enkush going SE, he's got two buggies to kill in max 16 Turns, and Kur-Dawa has one to kill in 10, going SW. Let me know if anyone else is engaging in the OOC.

Enkush

So it was a split, the White Scar going for the lesser threat.

Watch the jangle jangle start to shine

Speed with caution, he took off in pursuit of the two ramshackle Ork Buggies.

With a laugh he thought about the others in the Wadi.

Those Boots are made for Walking.

(Full Action) Tactical Manoeuvring (move up to twice Tactical Speed) [20m]) to get into position for the pursuit.

Uldyssian

A break in the fighting, enough perhaps to determine the purpose of this outpost. Uldyssian turned towards the sable armoured warrior, "Well met brother, by what purpose have you been positioned here and how might we assist?"

Hierax

Heavy bolter fire lanced through the rest of the chaff, reducing them to a bloody ruin upon the ridge, and in the sudden stillness, Hierax realized there were more above yet trying to escape. A ruthless instinct took hold of him and he leapt out from behind his hiding place and sprinted up the side of the wadi, reaching the crest just as the last surviving orks reached their war buggies. There were three, each pulling away in different directions, naturally.

Curses.

His newly acquired cameleoline cloak billowed around him in the wind like a Terran desert bandit’s serape as he knelt and mag-locked his bolter to his power pack. Hierax calmly drew his long rifle, Whisper, from over his shoulder and started dialing in the advanced targeting system mounted upon its upper rail, searching for a clear weak point he might exploit on the nearest buggy or an exposed occupant to kill.

ROUND THREE ENDS

ROUND FOUR BEGINS

The swiftest amongst you watch as the Ork Wreckas lurch into action and tear away into the desert.

GM: Since the Party is split 3 ways, I will not be providing maps as it triples my workload. The Orks have successfully passed/performed the Floor It! action this turn, (Hierax acts before them) adding 32m to the distances given above. I will place a cumulative distance below. The Players in the wadi are in Narrative time, and may act as they wish. I will be rounding off to keep things simpler.

GM: For further simplicity, I will be relabelling the Ork Wreckas along the lines of their previous Init order from past Rounds, so we have consistency. A will follow B, follows C, just for ease of reference. The Wreckas should now correspond to the mobs who broke, and will effect the distance over Rounds played that they fled.

Conditions:

Sand - all Drive Tests are Difficult (-10)

The Wreckas are not in cohesion - meaning they are more than 2m apart.

The Ork passengers/crew can either be attacked with Called Shot, or will be struck by every 3rd shot which hits the vehicle (as per Vehicle Combat rules in RoB).

The Orks do not form Hordes in the vehicle (you broke them, so they're a group).

Floor It: The Vehicle imposes -20 to Hit (refer to the Data thread or other details).

Initiaitve Order:

Kur-Dawa

The silence from Enkush was confirmation that the Storm Lord did indeed think he was able of hunting down Orks fleeing south easterly. Kur-Dawa therefore set of in pursuit of the south westerly truck, perhaps, once he had run down his initial quarry, and if need be, he could circle round to form a pincer with the Storm Lord.

Incario:

As the last of the approaching Orks was blasted apart, Incario grinned viciously. There was little more satisfying than taking a charging foe down before they could even reach your line. Then Hierax moved suddenly, racing towards the top of the scarp. For a fraction of a second Incario wondered where the Raptor was hurrying off to, then he heard the unmistakable sound of Ork engines. The Celebrant grunted a quick curse, then lumbered after the lighter Marine, holding Drumroll one-handed so that he could use the other to pull himself up the slope.

Full Action: Move/Run/Climb to top of wadi wall.

As he reached the top, he could see rising dust trails spreading apart. Three vehicles, each heading in a different direction. The two Astartes riders were following, bikes throwing up slightly smaller sprays of sand and dirt. Incario frowned. Not out of range yet… but it wouldn't be long.

The Raptor had already raised his boltgun and Incario moved to stand beside him, taking a two-handed grip on Drumroll and getting ready to fire another volley.

++Brother Storm Lord,++ he voxed, ++live fire warning. With your permission we will target the vehicle heading South-east?++ (OOC: Wrecka B)

Enkush

He sped off in high speed pursuit of the Ork Wrecka.

If you are going

the Omnissiah sang. His attention was diverted from the song by a Vox transmission.

++That's a big Ten-Four good buddy. Fill your Boots!++

be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

Perhaps there are Space Wolves nearby, he thought.

He let the throttle out and drifted to the left, to both give the Celebrant a clearer shot and to show off his red livery to the Orks he pursued.

Hierax

The ork wrecka lurched forward in a cloud of oily exhaust and churned ashen sand, and went bouncing off across the dunes away from the others. Hierax followed it through the advanced gyroscopic optics furnished by his chapter’s artificers with the detached intensity of a hardened professional and drew a bead on the driver of the smoke belching contraption.

The brightly armoured Celebrant lumbered up the slope behind him, making half as much noise as an armoured column unassisted, but he paid the devastator no mind, so consumed was he by the hunt. Incario’s voice crackled over the vox, informing the bikers of his intent to fire upon the same vehicle as Hierax, and he heard the heavy gunner charge his weapon.

It wasn't like he required the permission of these sods to kill orks. His sergeant was dead, and while the Ordo Xenos could claim whatever dominion over him it wished, he had not sworn the Apocryphon Oath.

Still, professional courtesy did at the least necessitate that he also voice his intent.

He muttered over the vox to his new colleagues, +Driver is mine. Stand by…+

He inhaled.

The buggy shook and juddered with tooth-jarring impacts in the distance as it bounded away over the rugged terrain, and he subtly adjusted the angle of his boltgun’s long barrel to account for crosswinds and flight time.

He had the ork dead-to-rights.

There you are... Now…

He exhaled and squeezed Whisper’s trigger.

OOC: I'm posting this slightly early so as not to hold anything up. Hopefully this doesn't screw up Mazer's action order.

Wrecka A

The sight of a motorbike tearing out after them, chewing up the desert and pattered with grit gets the Orks agitated. They're too far away to make out any discernible blasphemies of the human tongue but rude gestures of one, or two finger salutes, are easily understood.

They lurch forward again, keeping up the speed, rocks and shale hammering backwards in a shotgun blast, and follow it up by twisting around to shoot.

The driver's head pops off, unprotected by the flanks of his vehicle. (I forgot to add their facing to you, so I will say they turned and presented the flank). The Trukk slews around (Scatter D10: 5, 7m) and jerks to a stop. The Orks quickly establish who will be unlucky enough to be the next driver, but it will take a few moments for him to clamber into the seat. (They lose half an action due to 'Mount' required'.

The other Passengers fire back waywardly, albeit ineffectually.

Wrecka C:

As Enkush thunders up, close enough almost to leap aboard, the Wrecka moves in front to stop him from passing, and a heavy Ork boot spurs it on while his passengers hurl more than abuse, but all it does is create more noise.
