A Manifestation of The God Emperor on Old Terra
An Imperial Record by Archivist [REDACTED]
[REDACTED], Forbidden Knowledge of the Emperor’s Divine Manifestations

Preface:
This document was discovered by one of our squires from the remains of a most loyal Inquisitorial Acolyte, a truly devoted servant of the Imperium. The Acolyte shamefully ambushed by Hive Cult-Gangers had been engaged in the investigation of a Radical (name [REDACTED]; title [REDACTED]; restricted), who was found to be collaborating with the enemies of mankind.

Twelve Templars were sent out on a recovery mission to return the Acolyte's body and execute judgement upon the perpetrators. Just as well to bring The Wrath of The God Emperor upon any or all who stood in opposition to His Will.

I therefore humbly submit this record before the Council of The Black Templar Chaplains for further rerview on the quality of the document as follows:

I. For authentication of that which lies therein as Imperial in origin.

II. For approval of any authority it may hold.

III. For its denunciation of all such legitimacy should it be found wanting of any truth.

I. Introduction: The God Emperor of Mankind and The Son of Man
In the millennia preceding our God Emperor’s Ascension, there existed a figure among the peoples of Old Terra known as Jesus Christ (Jesus, The Christ). While the exact details of His life remain obscured in the ancient Terran texts (many of which are now lost or deemed heretical), the figure of Jesus Christ (Jesus, The Christ) was revered by many as a savior of mankind. His birth, miracles, and teachings remained central to the beliefs of billions of Terrans. The notion that this figure, Jesus Christ, may in fact have been an earlier divine embodiment of our God Emperor is a hypothesis that has emerged in certain sectors of the Imperium.

In the ancient Terran period, Jesus was recognized for His immense compassion and for His moral instruction, which sought to align the way of man with The Kingdom of God. He became a spiritual leader in His own right, attracting many followers. This popularity began to attract less favorable attention however. Resentment among the the Rabbi the spiritual leaders of this time grew. The Priesthood recognized a persistent threat to their authority in this man named Jesus.

Eventually, this unrest led to the condemnation and arrest of Jesus by The Temple Guards at the call of the High Priest for claiming to be the Son of God. He was publicly denounced as a blasphemer. The High Priest could not tolerate a claim such as this so involved the ruling authorities. Jesus faced capital punishment, death by crucifixtion.

Following a trial in which the state found no fault in Him, Jesus was nonetheless handed over to local authorities, who carried out the sentence upon Him. However, Jesus did not endure this fate as a mere criminal of the state. Rather, He willingly embraced His suffering as part of a divine act of forgiveness, taking upon Himself the sins of mankind. Through His deliberate sacrifice, He offered redemption to humanity, making the ultimate act of atonement through His passion and death.

His crucifixion, the ultimate sacrifice, was not simply an end, but a purposeful gift of divine mercy to the world. His resurrection following His death on the cross confirmed His authority over life and death. The cross carried by the Templars of our day symbolizes this death as the great sacrifice by The God Emperor of Mankind in an act of mercy through His love for Humanity in bygone ages. This divine love is further represented through His present suffering upon the throne to keep humanity alive. The cross becomes the throne. Both are affirmation of His Immutable Will by his Undying, Enternal nature.

The teachings of Jesus Christ were meant to demonstrate moral courage, to show the way to salvation through His word, and to offer redemption to mankind through His mercy as the fortold "Son of Man" in Terran religious texts. The resurrection, furthermore, solidified His authority and the eternal power that would endure beyond His mortal form. It is from this, the act of His resurrection, that one could begin to understand the true nature of His power. A power that, perhaps, did not end with His death but began anew as The Most High God Emperor of Mankind. Praised be.

However, as with all teachings of the divine, the truth of His sacrifice, death, and resurrection in The God Emperor's former Manifestation as The Christ, Jesus has been obscured over time. Many teachings were lost or dismissed as heretical. But within the deepest layers of the Imperium’s most sacred orders, there remains a belief that The God Emperor, in some capacity, shared a divine connection with this figure called Jesus Christ.

II. The Sacred Role of the Cross
For the faithful who serve The God-Emperor of Mankind, the cross is an icon of sacrifice, passed down through the ages. It began with the death of Jesus, The Christ whose crucifixion represented the ultimate act of selfless devotion for the salvation of humanity. In this supreme moment, He bridged the divine and the mortal, offering redemption to all mankind. Today, that same symbol endures, as witness to not only the sacrifice of Christ, but in that tradition The God Emperor’s own endless martyrdom upon the golden throne for the salvation of humanity.

The God Emperor's agony upon the throne mirrors the suffering of Christ upon the cross. In this way, the cross becomes both a testament of the past and of the present. A reminder of the endless resurrection, the hope it ensures, as The Saviour forever endures.

For the Templar Brethren of the Imperial Fists, and The Black Templars, the cross stood not only as a token of faith but as a practical emblem of their duty. These chapters hold the cross aloft in devotion, and in a show of resiliance, the unwavering resolve to overcome in the face of adversity, and before all emenies of mankind in the name of The God Emperor.

III. Hidden Knowledge and Secret Teachings
There exists, however, a deeper and more esoteric understanding among the highest echelons of the Imperial Cult. This knowledge has been passed down through the ages, kept secret from the majority of the populace to protect the sanctity of The God Emperor’s true nature and His role in the salvation of mankind. It is within this hidden knowledge that certain ancient secrets are known — secrets that allude to The God Emperor’s earlier life and His connection to the life and legacy of Jesus, The Christ.

During the early years of The God Emperor, He is believed to have many incarnations, and Jesus, The Christ, we are confident, is of one such form. This knowledge, while reserved for the most trusted and highest-ranking officials in the Imperial Cult, places The God Emperor not only as the living deity but as one who has transcended the boundaries of time and identity.

Among those who know the truth, The God Emperor’s resurrection, His endurance, and His presence beyond death are seen as eternal truths — His true power is not constrained by the limits of one lifetime. By these teachings, the faithful understand that The God Emperor’s role as a savior is not merely theoretical, but a living and breathing force that continues to guide humanity towards salvation by innumerable means.

IV. The Emperor’s Bloodline, The Knights Templar, and The Illuminati
The bloodline of Jesus Christ is said by certain secretive and ancient sects of the Imperium to be more than a folktale of Old Terra. The God Emperor, in all His manifestations, is believed by some to have left behind a biological progeny separate from the Primarchs. These children, scattered across the Imperium’s history, are thought to have been guarded by certain individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving His Truth.

Among these, and while not openly known, The Knights Templar, The Templar Brethren of The Imperial Fists, and The Black Templars, and the Knights of the Long Watch have been charged with preserving the sacred knowledge of The God Emperor’s divine nature, His various incarnations, and descendants through time. These orders are entrusted with the belief that The God Emperor’s Will extends forth by His offspring who continue to shape the course of humanity as saints and martyrs.

The Illuminati, whose very existence is denied by most among the Inquisition, are rumored to hold secret knowledge that includes the bloodline of Jesus Christ which they too believe is found among the true progeny of our God Emperor. The Illuminati guard this information from the public eye for reasons I shall not elaborate on here, but it is whispered among some of the highest circles, that the Illuminati are radical resurrectionists.

Interesting take on Christian/Catholic faith incoperation. Malcador the Sigilite was a worshiper of the Catholic Faith (as it was at that point) until his death. The Emperor allowed it.  The emperor and the primarchs are most definately a dark allegory of Christ and the Angels/war in heaven. I had just yesterday, answered a guy in another forum...he asked the question of how can he incorperate his real world faith into his 40k gameplay/diy. I advised him about his best avenue was make a minor Inquisitorial Ordo that sees a connection between ancient Christian/Catholic doctrine and the emperor. there are hundreds of Ordos, some with only a handful of members, so this way he could work within the lore. I warned against creating some never before seen faction/facts. Best to use what already exists and fit your ideas ito it.

As they say "truth is stranger than fiction" ;)

My take here is incredibly high level (broad in scope) so much I have left out from my research. I have plans to get granular when I have time to sit and really ponder, but I'll give a couple of hints, these groups will all be part of the main play:

The Black Templars connection with the Knights Templar (foundation is set here)

A secret society (which I am keeping secret for now)

The Sensei, and the Knights of the Long Watch

The Illuminati

Something else before people accuse me of heresy. My intent is not heresy, but to reveal the secret Will of the Emperor through the ages. I know this will rattle some cages, so I am only revealing it to those "with two hears to hear" dare I find myself in a premature funeral pyre.

My 2 cents, Dont make a Direct connection between the Black Templars and the Knights Templars, too many lore obstacles their including Dorns own feeling/hatred of religion. Dorn was astudent of history especially military history, he created the Huscarls and the Templar Bretheren as a nod to the martial principles those organizations stood for historically. So He would have created the Templar Bretheren for more esoteric reasons linking more to their noble military history rather than their religous doctrine.

Otherwise he would not have created them/allowed them to exist. I would explore their "non-religous" connection, but then expound on the existing lore of how Sigismund and SOME of the Templar Bretheren Believed the Emperor was a god, and saw the martial connection Dorn made as an influence of the Emperor and his and the Black Templars ultimate manifest destiny.  Not all of the Templar Bretheren saw things as Sigismund did. Their Zealotry was towards the belief in the Imperial Truth, The Great Crusade and the destiny of mankind to rule the stars. As a rule I tend to stay away from "changing/reimagining" to established lore.

There are a lot of gaps there to work with. Maybe a fic piece about a warlord prior to the Unification that re-established the Templars/re-imagined them and how that Warlord recognized the real power of the Emperor and willingly capitulated to him, how his forces were incoperated and how some of the male children of his templar warriors were used to create the Proto Astartes Legion members of the Imperial Fists. You could HINT HEAVILY at the possibility that the Templar Bretheren came to existence because of that influence and possibly where Sigismund drew his influences. Just spitballing some ideas for you.

You do point out a fairly sizable issue I have here, and that's Dorn though I'm commited to tackling it. I also realize that this could be interpreted as rewriting, but that's not my intent at all. I intend to keep everything as it is in canon, but then reveal the hidden truth below it all. Individuals can take it or leave just as they're free to do with other parts of the lore.

There is no martial connection to the cross that isn't religious in origin. That's just GW saying we wanted the Knights Templar in the game, but wanted them to be bigger, badder and without the baggage.

What I've run with here is idea that E was thought to have been a messiah figure. Now of course that doesn't automatically mean Jesus, but when you add the Templars to the picture the ground work is done. All you have to do is connect the dots which is actually kind of fun.

At the end of the day for me, the idea that the cross has no meaning is very unsatisfying. All symbols have meaning to their wearers, and I am unaware of any actual explaination for it other than E was inspired by the knightly orders of old (to which he would have been familar with) and I'm unaware of any explaination that would dream up the Maltese cross and the Templar monikor which are both a direct connect to the crucifixtion of Christ and the Temple Mount where the Knights were based in Jerusalem. Why not the Crescent instead of the Cross? or some other heraldry?

The link through the ages follow along with some of the fictional and conspiratorial takes surrounding the Templars. I don't want to reveal much more than that right now. However let's just say the Templars didn't dissolve (and I'm not referring to their modern day title claimers whose heritage has no verifiable provanance (to my knowledge)

When going over this I thought of having it like a discussion between two characters one who is revealing the information and the other who questions it throughout. I may do that still so the arguements can be aired as part of the dialog plus it may be more entertaining than mulling over a theory.

Now you also point out the "Imperial Truth" and I admit this was not ready when I posted, but it is a significant underpinning to it all. To elaborate. If you read this now you might get the impression I'm attemping to fit E into some sort of mainstream orthodox viewpoint to make 40k cosey up with whatever personal faith I might have. However, there is an even deeper level that I intend to explore here so rest assurred I'm not here to prostelize

I hope this at least clears up my intentions and direction as I prefer to keep the current progress undisclosed for now. But you have raised some points that I am planning to provide answers to in time.

Also just so you know where I'm coming from:

Everything you've been told is a lie

I have no desire to change what you want to do, I am just discussing in lore obstacles. This is absolute 100 percent yours and go forth and do great things. I also didnt say the cross didnt have meaning, but symbols change their meaning over time and histories fade. The world by the time of 30M was a post apocolyptic hell whole that had been that way for a couple thousand years, so a lot of history, symbology and even religions would have changed or dissapeared during that time. All you have to do is look at our own history over 1k years ago and our world was not a post apocalyptic nightmare. Infact its most of european history only exists as we know it because of Irish monks in the 14-1600's that continued to copy and hide numerous historical texts and religous books/treatise that what we know today .

Also the cross symbol existed for a couple thousand of years before christ in ancient Mesopotamian, Assyrian, Roman and even Asiatic cultures with a wide variety of Non-religous meanings to include military ranks, formations, celestial/astronomy symbols/symboloy, symbol of aristocracy and in egyt it was a religous symbol in a sense not originally for a specific god (later did for Ra and Osiris) but origianlly a symbol for eternal existence.  The White Scars do use the crescent Moon, so do the thousand Sons, they also use the Borealis, and Sun, the Ank. Many of the Symbols used by the legions were religious symbols in ancient earth, but they all also had ties to great armies and martial histories etc. Big E allowed some of these metaphors to exist including the "Dark Angels" and "Blood Angels" not for the more Christian aspect of their symbology but because of the dark and more destructive symbology as heralds of doom and punishment.

Given Big Es purge, something like that is highly unlikely. and given those efforts by those monks, while we know some, we far from know everything and we are still discovering that assumptions we made historically were wrong once new relics, artifacts and histories are unearthed. By the time of the Unification wars many of these faiths were in the extreme minority, divided and under religous control of religous warlords, more in tune with what we know of some of the less reputable true historical religious land owning figures from the 1200s-1600s. As mentioned previously, the Emperor ordered them all purged, hence the Last Church story. So the truth of the Knights Templars survivng Big E's purge is very unlikely.

The more likely option is the Templar cross meaning did shift from one of religion to one of martial excellence hence its use by an Athiest primarch as one of his units. Dorn was a DEVOUT beliver in the Imperial Truth and it is why he came down so hard on Sigismund. So he absolutely would not have brought or allowed the Templar Bretheren to exist with any religous connotation. It is likely why of all the Units within the Fists legion that survived into the Imperial Fist chapter, the Templar Bretheren were not one. The ones that believed as Sigismund became the Black Templars, the ones that didnt stayed and formed the 1st company and refitted the Huscarls.

I would focus on Sigismund somehow finding the meaning of the cross and make that correlation himself and spreading ito to some of his templar bretheren, because we know already that it was his faith in the emperor that did sway some of them. But again Dorn and the Fists proper would have had ZERO to do with or support it. Dorn survived well into the 32M and was the last Primarch to dissappear. If he had a change in his beliefs/faith all of the Dornian successors would have shifted. The Templar connection was martial, Sigismund exclusively made it religous. Dorn and all of the Loyalist brothers remained believers in the Imperial Truth up until their dissapearances based on all the existing Lore. In fact even with the truth of Chaos right infront of him, the current worship of the god emperor by the Imperium, Guilliman has only now in 40k begun to Question, and he still concludes he is simply a highly evolved psycher and beleives at some point he will have to "handle" the church and its faith.

I would also find or play on the symbols Big E did allow to continue as his subtle acknowledgement of a more divine truth. Many believe Big E did everything he did intentionally to eventually have his soul manifest in the Warp and become the God of Order and Creation.  But None aside from Malcador would have known if that was true and his sons, especially the Loyalist ones definately did not. Its why Lorgar and his legion were humbled and punished....and he ironically penned the current Imperial Religous doctrine that the BIG E crushed him about.

Now its your fan fic, do as you want, but like i said I try to work into the gaps that exist. To me it makes the story much more feesable. Religion, especially Christianity/Catholisism has dealt with or been the initiatetors of conflict, id play into the fight for that belief to continue to exist. But make no mistake if Robby G and The Lion could simultaneously defeat the current enemies of man and Purge all religion they absolutely would. And every Loyalist brother alive or dead would too. To me the meat of a great story about the connection with ancient Christianity/Catholocisim is already there, and you have some very good ideas. Everyone has a different creative eye and different boundaries. I wish you the best on this adventure.

Thanks, yes I realize all the distance in time and usage of symbols. If we rule out the obivious coincidently things, E as a messaih figure, the marines called Templars running around in tabbards, Maltese crosses, and acting like warrior monks we could equally say all that is just highly unlikely in the 41st. Moreover the Lion of the Forest and his band of roving knights like King Arthur and crew. All that stuff was long burried by the 30th.

My head-canon relies on the secrets, and the untold connections that persist among secret societies. You're obsticles are reasonable, but I want to make this interesting, not forced not required by anyone to accept it, but a backdrop that can be presented on the table and not colide with canon because it doesn't require another player, reader, or writer to believe it.

I kinda feel like all the religious iconory in 40k becomes forced if in the newest lore there is no parody (parody is large left with things like the Orks), and there is no satire (excesses of our government and religious institutions. Then what we have is something unoriginal claiming to be original enough for GW to slap hands and cry copyright on history.

All said and done, I appreciate your input! I have considered all of that, and as time permits I will provide more depth. I wanted to get this posted for two reasons, one to get me movitated, and open the door to the thoughts of others so thank you.

So was rereading through your reply again and your first quote started to ring bells. Seeing just how many chapters are imbued with a form of the cross. Not just maltese, and moreover the Blade Guard Veterans for all chapters are sporting it on their shields and it's a "Crux immissa" the cross that was used for Jesus. Even the shape of the shields follow suit. The flood gates have opened!

Thank you for stiring this in my mind!

On to your second post about Bobby G and The Lion. I posted my theory on that in the Forge as well! If you have any time to critique it by all means!
