Flesh tearers assault squad

Another squad ready for my Flesh tearers army. This time it is an assault squad without jump packs.

The entire squad.

The sergeant. I don't really like the banner, but I wanted it to look like the banners in my tactical squads, so I'm rather stuck with a concept that doesn't really work. It looks OK, but the composition could be a lot better. Black background for example.

Some models that stand out from the squad. Two normal marines and a squad leader.

Melta guns.

And the marine I am most proud with. It's quite hard to capture on photo, but it really has a lot of movement in it.

Nice and gritty Flesh Tearers, and the battle damage is just perfect, not too over the top. I agree with Graf Morte on the last model, the pose is simply amazing, very dynamic. As for the banner, maybe you could break up the blue background a bit, like painting some rain of blood drops.

These look great (as ever), got to say I'm very envious of your free hand ;)

I have a marine in my own Death Company that has the exact same pose as your favourite in your new squad, which is funny as your FT have inspired me a lot with my newest BA (I even went over my old ones with some battle damage etc).

Looking forward to more :P

Thanks everybody!

any chance you could give us the lowdown on how you painted these , cause they are AWESOME

Sure.

The red is old Scab red as a base. Or rather, a colour mixed to look like old Scab red since I have run out of the real thing. It's the new Scab red mixed with Scorched brown and Chaos black, plus a little bit of Liche purple and Blood red.

After painting the red I paint all the areas that should have chipped paint with black. I then highlight all edges with watered down Blood red. I also highlight around all chipped paint. I know this is not correct from a realistic point of view since the light wouldn't reflect from above the chipping, but I think it looks good. My style is more of a "cartoonish realism". The next step is to paint the chipped areas with boltgun metal, leaving a little black between the metal and the red. The black areas are highlighted with Shadow grey mixed with Chaos black and then Codex grey. As with the red highlight, watered down paints. The wings of the chest eagles are also painted with the same grey colours. I then paint all the freehand and lenses. (Lenses are Dark angels green, Snot green and Goblin green.)

Finally I drybrush Bestial Brown to the lower legs and very lightly over any white parts. A final light drubrush with Bobonic brown is then added feet/lower legs.
