Loyalist Abaddon Count-As

I occassionally dabble with the Chaos list using my loyalist marines (I do have a good number of miniatures modified from chaos miniatures, so no one I know complains...plus I don't take really un-marine like stuff like daemons), so I decided to make an Abaddon counts-as for my army :D

+++EDIT, 9th August 2009+++

Removed the poorly focused WIP pictures, but I'll leave the descriptions from my post here anyway. For pictures, look further down the post ;)

My Drach'nyen equivalent, right now I'm just calling it "Heaven".

Basically its the power axe arm, with a sword made from a Tzeentch icon from the vehicle set that I cut down GS'ed a little to make the bottom part of the head have a level and smooth finish, like more the feathers of an eagle (if you see the original, the bottom part of the head aka the jaw has muscles, which didn't look very eagle-like). The angle doesn't show it, but I also put two 3rd ed Chaos bike wheel spikes as the hilt.

My Talon equivalent, right now I'm calling this "Hell" (for those of you who watch anime, you've probably already caught the reference :P).

The upper arm from elbow upwards is the stormbolter arm of the Terminator Lord, while the body of the fist is a pointing powerfist from the 4th ed assault squad sprue. The stormbolter is from a dreadnought, while the pointy claw parts are blades from kroot rifles, which I happen to have a gazillion spares. The kroot blades were a little thicker than the fingers, so I sculpted some tubes under each finger to fill the gap and at the same time make the claw more convincingly functional-looking. Almost the entire central part of the gun save part of the tubing and the "flexible" parts of the arm at the elbow is GS'ed, partly to fill the gaps but also partly to make it slightly longer than an average Terminator's arm. I did compare it with a normal Terminator's arm and its surely longer making it (hopefully) look more intimidating, without making my character look like a gorilla :P

After all he will be pointing with this arm, so I don't think anyone would immediately notice it :)

More pictures to come soon, C&C welcome. Thanks!

Here are some clearer (hopefully) pictures of the model as it currently stands. I've started on the gold, and I've removed the sword because I didn't want accidental splashes of paint on the transparent blade :(

love the sword, love the claw - not sure on the storm bolter. looks a little to much like its been stuck on rather than integrated to the claw. maybe cut/file it down underneath so it follows the contours of the back of the claw a bit more and/or use so GS to blend the two together more.

anyway - back to the posative - really like the look of the head from what i can see and the tank sprue aquilla fits nicely on the chest

Wow, very impressive, I like the choice of base too, makes him look well mean.

Edit:

What about drilling a very very small shft down the centre of the clear sword and then pouring a very very water bright light blue down the shaft, could look like energy within the sword when it catch's the right light.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

I've been a lazy bum (with painting drought, I'm sure everyone knows what I mean :D) so he's been sitting at my bench for quite a while.

Till yesterday, when I decided at like 1am in the morning, to give him some paint

Heres what I've done so far, approx 2.5-3 hours of painting. I don't plan to make him a masterpiece, just an (hopefully) above average paintjob to fit in line with the rest of my space marine army.

I'm most likely going to GS some straps to connect the Stormbolter to the claw to make it look more "built-in" as lhg033 suggested, and I also noticed that I forgot to fill in the holes and tears on his loincloth which I really need to do, considering how I patched his cape (the original one has holes and tears all over the place, but I fixed his cape to make him look more like a loyalist rather than some chaos scum in disguise). Its just a matter of when I feel like busting out the GS....

One thing I did notice is how horrible the lightning claw looks "on film"....I actually did some blending towards the tips of the claws, but thats all like lost in the picture....

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to paint a light blue lightning claw (for that "glowy power claw" kinda look.....or maybe ala Nero's glowy demon hand in Devil May Cry 4).

C&C welcome, thanks!
