Wow, love the heat effects! The powerfists in particular are very well done. Like them a lot. I also really like your sternguard. The ends of the guns look really awesome. Are they from the chaos tank sprue?

Still, well done on your completed vow.

  • 4 months later...

I've recently completed an overhaul of my army including hauling everything from my bags to inspect, painting touch-ups and add-ons, as well as a few new models. Therefore I thought it a was great chance to take new pics of everything I own which is completed and has not already been added to the thread.

Here is one of my Vindicators that I've had for a long time. The base color was painted by someone else from whom I bought the vindis, and I recently found time to touch them up and complete them.

These are updated pictures of my third tactical squad.

My sniper scouts which I had picked up in the same transaction as the vindicators. I had to remove some silly-looking bits, sculpt a new forearm for one, and paint them. The heads are taken from the Dark Angels sprue and really add a lot of flavor to the unit. Also, some have the black faces of Salamanders while others do not. I figured some of them will not have been implanted with enough gene-seed yet for their skin to turn.

I decided to take a few pictures of my rhinos as I did do some work on them including adding a gunner topside.

Here is my razorback (but usually it's used as a rhino) with the forgeworld front plate and side doors. I'm working on my command squad so that I have a reason to field this more often.

Apparently there's too much awesome to be contained by only a single post... Continuing on:

Here is one of my first dreadnoughts I painted and magnetized. I have him shown here with the assault cannon I never used in 5e. Maybe I'll use it more in 6e...

Here are my three drop pods. I enjoy how they play and I would own more but for a few reasons: 1) The are difficult to store and transport 2) They are prone to falling apart with the slightest bump. No matter how much glue I use. 3) They are the most frustrating things I've ever put together (except for that F-14 Tomcat when I was 12)

Now I have my three squad of devastators. Often they will not be fielded together, but rather used as heavy weapons for my tactical squads. I like having lots of heavy weapons options though, and they are great to paint. You can tell that they've been painted over a long period of time as the style and skill changes from model to model.

Attack bikes are a mainstay in my army. Only when I complete the painting of my 3 land speeders will they ever not be in an army list.

These assault terminators were also a part of a big purchase. They are also the sole reason for owning my land raider redeemer, as well as more victories that I can count. I have a second squad of 5 that are magnetized to be either TH/SS or lighting claws and are to be painted soon.

Wow triple post update... This tells me that I've put this off waaayyy to long. ;)

My assault squad is one of my favorite squads. They don't see much use in games since they don't always fit my playstyle, but they may see more use in the future as "Blood Angels allies." I just want to take them as troops. Also the large bladed thunder hammer is magnetized to become an axe or a short hammer.

Last but certainly not least is my latest addition, my Pedro Kantor stand-in. I've always liked using sternguard so now he will give me a better reason to use them.

I hope you enjoy the update. It was a lot of work to reorganize and take new pictures of everything, but I think it's worth it. As always I enjoy comments, questions, and discussing my work with you.

Haha, I always wondered where my old salamanders army went! Those are my old Sallies (the Terminators, vindicators, raptor-bikers, and some of the odds and ends infantry). I noticed you repainted the green areas on the termies... And you still have librarian Willis! Your painting has come a long way since I last saw your army in person!

Are you playing in the Tournament on the army base on the 18th Kyle? I am starting my triumphant return to the hobby by bringing my black-legion to the field for it.

Very nicely done, but if you don't mind me asking, where is Capt. Dac'tyr, Master of the Fleet, Lord of the Burning Skies?? Also I think you should add some stormtalons or stormeagles to your army, given fluff wise, the 4th co. is all crazy flight masters.

Thank you. I have been taking care of them. I've repainted many bits and bobs on them to make them more my style so that they fit into my army. Also, I am planning on attending the tournament and it'll be nice to see you. However, I may not make it as I am moving this month and the tournament falls very close to those dates. We'll have to wait and see.

He is currently in my head. I've been thinking of a way to create a model to represent him but I can't remember much about him, such as his armor's MK, wargear, ornamentation, etc. My idea is to scratch-build him in the future with a collection of all the proper bits.

As for the flyers, I'm honestly not a huge fan of the stormtalons. The model is nice enough but its loadouts and apparent playstyle doesn't really make me want to run out and get one. I do like the stormeagle, but I hesitate to get one before forgeworld rules become officially sanctioned as locally their models are fine but rules are a no-no. What I really wish is to be able to take stormravens since they can carry dreads, and I can think of nothing cooler than having my dreads airlifted into battle (drops pods are cool, but I've used them so much that some of their charm has faded). I really do want to add some flyers to my collection, it's just that I want to see what else is coming out in the near future before I decide :)

I know its been said but I am absolutely in love with your power fists. I might try the same thing but fade to blue for my BT

I would love to see the finished result of that. I say go for it!

I dig these! Your paint work is simply awesome! Especially the flame on those power weapons. Your whole army really pops and I bet they look awesome on the table together.

Maybe an army shot?

Thank you very much. I hope to take a picture of my whole army together soon. I've been in the midst of a painting and modeling frenzy so I want to wait until I've completed a few more models before I take the army pic.

Thank you to everyone who said they liked something. It really inspires me to get even more painting done and to improve with each and every model. I hope to be able to continue pumping out newly painted models over the next little while at an increased pace.

You've done some interesting things -I really like the Thunder Hammers.

However, the Power Fists on the Tac Squads look odd -they definitely need the black edges like the "Kantor" model. Otherwise they just look multi-coloured in a slightly glam-rock kinda way.

Some nice work, though...

Thanks. You are right in that I need to re-do the molten effect on some power fists, including 3 of my dreads. As it stands right now they are a low priority because I want to complete the painting of my last 21 models (of various kinds) for my marine collection. So when I complete those I will be going back to re-paint the power fists which have the outdated scheme.

This time I have tried something completely new. As I've been working on adding plasma weapons to my army I've completed work on 2 cannons and 4 guns. What's new is that I tried some object source lighting, a blue white glow that is issued from the weapons and shine on the marine's armor. What you see below is my first attempt using this technique. I think it's a passable first attempt. I would like to get some feedback on how to improve the quality of the effect I as I was hoping to use it on my 5 other plasma armed models.

As a self-criticism I find my attempt poor in relation to the guide which I learned from. I think the fact that marine armour is so flat is factor in that feeling since the model the technique was demonstrated on had many raised surfaces in which to apply the effect more sparingly. Please let me know what you think.

Hmm, I think the glow is a little too harsh. I think it will look better if you water the glow down and put some green amour coming back from the edges. Getting the glow right is tough, especially from such a large source! You must be commended for undertaking that!
