Yeti
So we've got Ulrik ... Love the model, but not the plasma pistol. Short of buying a second one and taking a dremel to him ... what are the options for making a Wolf Priest? I've had decent success taking basic plastic models and "HQing" them. Both my Wolf Lord and Rune Priest are done that way (see album in sig) and they came out pretty well IMO. Now I'm looking for suggestions on making a Wolf Priest. What do you use for a Crozius and the Iron Wolf Amulet? How do you get a wolfy look with a mostly black color scheme? I've got most of the old SW metals, the SW captain (with wolf head ... you know the one), I've even got a Rogue Trader era chaplain to use as base models. Any suggestions? Please provide pics of your Wolf Priest.
stinkenheim
i'm lucky enough to have got the gamesday wolf priest from a while ago... a good base for a number of conversions i've seen is the rune priest they brought out a while ago... should beeasy enough to swap the axe head for a crozius and change the plasma psitol if you wnted... for the crozius, alot of people use banner tops from the command squad box although i used the mace head from the empire general for my crimson fist chaplain... i'm currently converting a model based on the wolf priest drawing next to his entry in the codex so i'll keep you posted on tha... Sköll Khan
The nilla marines have got some awesome Chaplain miniatures, whey not convert up one of them. The chap below would make a particularly mean looking wolf priest http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1240874_99060101334_SMChaplaincrozplaspismain_445x319.jpg throw on a space wolves wolf head back pack and a fur cloak the chest is clean for greenstuff, some talismans, wolfy necklaces, maybe a fur collar the crozius could have the head swapped off, though there's nothing wrong with this one, id just add a wolfs tail to the other end you could even give it horns like your rune priest if that floats your long boat and you've got yourself a very original looking wolf priest... Now im off for a barrel of storm wine, set me up for the morning The Mighty Skoll
Valhalla
I have the Gamesday Wolf Priest which is easily found on ebay but I've also used the Rune Priest model. The Gamesday model comes with a bolt pistol (scoped) but its a glue on so you'll be able to swap it out easily. I'm in the process of converting a Wolf Priest on a bike which will fun to make. Going heavy on Chaos Marauder Horsemen bits. Still why wouldn't you give your Wolf Priest a plasma pistol to take advantage of his BS 5?
Grimfoe
I think the 13th company Rune Priest would make an excellent model. I like the chaplains as well. Here is one of my old ones: I'm using the FW terminator to make another but I haven't painted him yet: My new Wolf Priest will be the model second from the left. The rest are already painted as Wolf Guard.
Grey Mage
I use the "13nth company rune priest" model. Hes got a wolf cape, a plasma pistol, receding hairline, and runes on his axe and shoulderpad. I love the model, always thought it would make a wonderful wolf priest. Turns out, I was right.
roon
I've chopped up Ulrik and the 13th Company Rune Priest to get my Wolf Priest. I never been a fan of the old Ulrik model, but some elements were cool. The result I got: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d126/Wolfman_roon/Space%20Wolves/Afbeelding002.jpg
Yeti
Thanks for the suggestions everyone and keep the coming. Some very nice looking models so far. Do you know if any chaplains have a "detachable" crosius? As for not liking plasma pistols ... yeah they're BS5, but risking loosing a wound on a 2W HQ is too risky for my. I know the odds ... but if you say the frequency at which my Rune Priest gets perils of the warp .... there's a reason I call him Gunnar the Bloody! Another possibility I'd though of was to use the old WG model with the bionic leg. What do you think?

That way you don't have to worry so much about it getting hot. Pretty sure that's what is on Ulrick come to think of it.

Combat_Vet
Greets, I have a habit of building my own HQ. I want the whole thing to be mine :) First try: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/P1010538.jpg Second try: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/P1010539.jpg Newest: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w291/meadows88/P1010769.jpg As far as getting a "wolf" feel using the black armor, it's all about the bling. Wolf teeth, tails and pelts will blend the mini into an army. Hope this helps.
clanfield
i used the rune priest i swoped his plasma for a bolt pistol cut from a spare arm i cut the crozius and hand from a now unhappy chaplin and used one of the icons from the plastic captain for a rosarius used green stuff to make a strap to hod it around his neck worked fine i also did a head swop and greened the hair up sorry no photos was years back
Yeti
I went to the LGS today for a Fantasy League Tournament and while looking through the used mini I think I found my Wolf Priest. I couldn't find him on the GW site ... but he's holding up a crozius in his left hand, has skull on his croth and kneecaps and gilding on the legs like my other HQs. No back pack and no right arm ... not bad for 4$. The plan for the moment is for a bolt pistol arm (maybe magnetized for a plasma pistol) with the wolf skull shoulder pad, the wolf headed backpack and I'll probably add a wolf tail to the crozius or the pistol. But for the moment ... it'll be a quick bath in brake fluid. Poor guy had his skulls painted purple.

stinkenheim
ok heres my wolf priest... still not finished him (te handle on the crozius will eventually be painted to look like wood)... http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00568.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00569.jpg also for my crimson fist chaplain i used the mace from the empire general as i mentioned in my post above... heres a shot of how it looks http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00570.jpg i think its suitably meaty to be a crozius and fits in well with the image i have of space marines in general... you don't like us we'll smash your face in kinda thing.... Yeti
Thanks everyone for the very nice examples. Lot's of inspiration and good ideas that I hope to put to good use. I'll post a WIP once I get started on him, but that's not going to be anytime soon. Between re-painting my SW and working on two other armies, I've got a lot of work ahead of me on the painting table. Maybe once I've redone my second bolter pack I'll get to work on the new Wolf Priest though. Thanks again and a much deserved fenrisian ale to all those great wolf priests out there.
