My wolf lord / canis conversion

FINISHED!

Finally finished my wolf lord. This was the hardest model for me to paint. Not only did I not want to (seemed really hard) but it was a tough model physically to paint. So many nooks & small spaces, a ton of detail and a heavy as hell model. I stopped painting for like 2 weeks in the middle of this guy because I just couldn't bring myself to mess w/it but tonight I just buckled down and finished him.

I'm fairly proud of it, I like the conversion as well. It will make a great set-piece.

This image gives a good idea of the head of the wolf. I've never done actual eyes and I think it came out fairly well. The mouth was scary to paint for me, but it turned out great!

I also magnetized him so I could use him as a generic "wolf lord" with different loadouts. Here's the cheestastic stormshield/frost blade! (blade looks better in person but i'm still not happy w/it: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4034/4281007830_27f7be3183_b.jpg

(yes, I realized the inside of the shield is not painted, I'll get that squared away, there are a couple other little pieces yet to be done that I noticed when taking pictures).

Sweet conversion! If I didn't want to steal the wolf claws for other projects I would do that to the one I am painting for Ebay!

I'd like to see it! =).

Looks good! Magnetizing is the way to go, for sure. I have to do that with my canis, and I am also dreading the process. Such a daunting piece.

Looks great, I am glad somebody took a normal photo of the wolf, the head does not look as fat and stubby as the GW pictures. Th e wolf is painted really well. The converstion looks better than the original apart from the wrist of the sheild hand, looks to long.
Not being really familiar with the original what did you convert? I can see the arm options is obviously a conversion (and always nice to get more use out of such large centerpiece type model). For all the flak this model seems to take, you made it look really good IMO.

Only the arms were converted. It was tough though, as the left arm (storm shield) has to be carefully filed down so the shoulderpad fits under the cape. it's not readily apparent. Not only that, you have to mount the magnet at an angle so it doesn't go all wonky once you put it on there. I managed to do it fairly well but it took me about 2 hours. Worth it IMO.

Other than that, it's pretty stock. The model is a PAIN IN THE ASS to put together. I used Epoxy and clamped/held the pieces BY HAND. There's a :) ton of filing and even then you need to green-stuff the gaps. This is not an amature-friendly model. some before pics:

i wouldn't recommend a dremel. I used a precise 1/8" drill bit on the arms. This thing also weighs a ton so I had to peg the back foot into the base.
