Adeptus Mechanicus (count as Space Marines)

Recommended Posts

I've been collecting an Adeptus Mechanicus army since the end of last year. Originally this was started because I was given a pile of classic Space Crusade Space Marine models, and wanted to find *something* to do with them. Most standard Marine chapters were too boring: I considered Space Wolves and Pretty Marines, but wanted to do something more special. And I love converting!

So I came up with the idea of making them a steampunk successor chapter to the Iron Hands. Over the months this idea morphed into just making an Adeptus Mechanicus army. Fluff-wise I call them Praetorians, although my Praetorians are more about heavy armour & cybernetics rather than the more common gene-bred Ogyrnesque creatures.

Anyway. Enough chat, have some pictures! All these photos link to their bigger versions on Flickr. For more, go to my blog http://admech.blogspot.com/ or my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/47446154@N08/...57624191172526/

This last photo shows how I made the models: they're Space Marine torsoes with all iconography removed, then with added Westwind Productions Wierd World War II gasmask heads and lots of Green Stuff!

Rules-wise they could count as Space Marines, Space Wolves, Chaos Space Marines, Witch Hunters, Necrons... Whatever I feel like, really! So far I've just been using them as Space Wolves, but I'm looking to try out some other stuff.

The army is currently around 1,500 pts- not all of it is displayed here, but I've got a Techno-Magi Lord (normally my Rune Priest), two Techpriests (Iron Priests) plus their servitors, 4 Praetorian Defender squads (Grey Wolves) and 3 Praetorian Support squads (Long Fangs). I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a converted a Praetorian Assault squad (Blood Claws / Wolf Guard), and an Avatar of the Machine God converted from Nightbringer (possibly to use as a Thunderwolf Lord? Or as a Daemon Prince in CSM?)

I'm not really very good at the whole gaming side, but you can read battle reports and army lists and so on at http://admech.blogspot.com/

Nice work, not sure they look quite solid enough for space marines rules, but then again I'd still play you with them!

Well, they're Space Marine torsoes. And they end up being significantly taller than Space Marines (as you can see by comparing the Dark Angels Veteran squad leaders with their much taller robot friends!) So yes, no one complains

Really like the green power weapons, any chance of some closer pics?

The green power weapons are currently just Skull White -> Scorpion Green. This was my first army for several years, my painting skills have only been recovering slowly! I'm planning on repainting them soon with highlighting and stuff.

Looks interesting. Hope you write some fluff to give this- Space Marine Chapter? Skitarii Legion?- a history, and a hero who fights to uphold his predecessors' honor.

I'm curious what's underneath the infantrymen's robes. Do they still walk on two feet, like (relatively) normal humans? On three mechanical legs, like the Martian war machines in 'The War of the Worlds'? On caterpillar treads, like a secutor? Or do anti-gravity propulsion units replace their legs, like a Necron Destroyer?

Just browsing your blog. Love the Razorbricks, but it needs something to defend itself in case an enemy so close, the gun servitor can't depress enough to hit it. Maybe a dozen firing ports, like on a M2 Bradley?

If you want to give those vehicles a better name, may I suggest "Citadel," like the superheavy tank in Avalon? Maybe a dry, descriptive name like "Mobile Watchtower," granted by an unimaginative enginseer or magos? "Behemoth"?

very impressive conversions with a nice concept behind with them; I too love the razor-brick, really made me chuckle, but a nice looking conversion all the same.

must get some more models for my army sorted out soon, currently using all sorts of stuff as "counts as" models whilst I test play the AM codex I've written. Soon be time to do some more converting, hope you'll not be offended, if I use your models as insperation

They're the elite Defenders of a minor Forge World, Demiterra Nemusordo. I still need to work on the background for my Techno-Magi...

secutor[/url]? Or do anti-gravity propulsion units replace their legs, like a Necron Destroyer?

I think they're tripods, with long flexible mechandrite-style legs.

As to a proper name for the Razorbricks, I originally called them Mk1 Mobile Shrines or something like that. But Razorbricks is just too tempting a name...

The Nightbringer has long been one of my favourite GW models, and I've been dying for an excuse to buy him. Now that I'm playing Adeptus Mechanicus, and in our in-store campaign I've been siding with the Necrons, this seemed the perfect time...

This is a very simple little conversion, just to get him finished & on the table as soon as possible. The shoulder pads were Space Marine tank crew, the axe head was a vintage techmarine's, and the backpack is a few Cities of Death bits (to match my Techno-Magi Lord).

Also, have a preview of my Assault Maniple, coming soon:
