Lorenzen
Well ive been painting metallics for too long now and needed a distraction, so decided to mess about with a space wolf. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/wolflord.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/wolflord2.jpg model is based off lukas the trickster and as ive been painting it ive noticed some rather horrible miscasting (type of stuff that would have been salvagable in a different material but in metal isnt) other than that i quite like how he looks, although im not sure on the brass shoulderpad (its only base coated atm) so any suggestions to alter that would be appreciated. subtlebrush
Wow! I really like him so far. I too had an idea to use Lukas to make a Wolf Lord and it looks awesome. As far as the brass shoulder pads... Im at a loss. I think they look ok. The other option could be to paint them the same color as the grey of his armour (but that might make it look lost in the sea of grey on him). Cant wait to see him done. jackmatt
Love the concept of this model. Hope you don’t mind but think I’m going to nick that. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2796112 Share on other sites
Lestat
Simply wow! Great dynamic conversion and pretty nice paint job. I would keep the brass and maybe use a sepia wsh and then highlight it. The grey looks great - reminds me of a pre-heresy SW colour. Do you mind sharing the recipe with us as my brother is looking for a similar colour for his wolves. Forté
Nice work. Removing the hair must have been a nightmare. Which primer did you use? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2796857 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
eek i thought this thread had died at 1 person posting! thanks for the comments guys.. jackmatt you are more than welcome to thieve the concept.. its one of the reasons i assume people post on here. the recipe from start to finish for the grey is as such.. Halfords Grey Primer (its made of win and is a proper primer) airbrushed model black (could easily have just sprayed the model black to start with but im fussy about my primers + my paints..) vallejo dark grey sprayed downwards from roughly a 45 degree angle onto the model. vallejo basalt grey sprayed almost verically onto the higher points of the model. badab black wash (excess removed with a makeup applicator, you can get a pack of like 10 for a pound) vallejo london grey used to for line highlights. im a big fan of the vallejo range as you can probably tell.. but a similar thing can be done with a mix of codex grey and black, straight codex grey and fortress grey pretty much. in terms of working the model, removing the hair wasnt too hard, it was just a matter of cutting his face off and then sculpting over the damage and around the replacement head with greenstuff.. parts wise hes lukas with head removed, lukas's backpack with the tail removed and more fur sculpted onto the shoulders, a vanguard veterans arm with a new shoulderpad & seths chainsword.. he also has a space wolf terminator shield in the works.. but it make the model a pain to paint so got removed. right wall of text over.. ill post up some more pics of him soon (just got a new kitten so have been distracted) http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/Image014-1.jpg hobby distracter aka Tao Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2797285 Share on other sites

Lorenzen
added a few bits and bobs and worked on the shoulderpad a bit.. need to tidy up the highlights on the chest as theyre a bit pants.. but hes getting there.. and has been appointed as erik morkai.. because most of the other wolf lords are a bit lame in comparison to him (id've done mr deathwolf but hes not on a thunderwolf and my big howly wolf lord on wolf with added wolf bits is being resculpted) http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/1.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/2.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/3.jpg i think i need to add a bit more depth to the verdigris on the brass shoulderpad, but it generally seemed more fitting than having it look all shiny and new.. im interested to know what people think of the gore on him.. especially on the face, i thought it added to the aggressive look of the model, but would like to see if others agree with me. oh and incase people wanted to know.. the symbol on the shield is totally unpainted, thats the colour of the primer. Blindhamster
Nice to see you still painting mate, wolf lord looks good, nice choice of bits! I agree that the Brass Shoulder could use a little more work, but overall it seems to be coming together well! Lord Ragnarok
I love the flow/movement/action of the model. Love the sword. You resculpted his face? You a plastic surgeon :P . Great job! Too bad SW's are not your main army. You'd do us proud. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2799023 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
bliiiind! glad you like him dude, im always still painting.. or as my friend matt would say PAINting.. i still need to see you appear down solihull way sometime.. my clubs getting overrun with xenos scum and guard.. i need backup! the face isnt "resculpted" per se, its a headswap with a shaved off mohawk and new hairdo (amused myself by mimicking my own) however i am on occasion a Greenstuff surgeon ;) http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00534.jpg i will admit i have a soft spot for the vlka fenryka and that once the fangles are complete (1750 not the whole company) ill be concentrating on a suitably beardy list for them.. because a: i need a competition army, and b: because that way i can play wardruna at my enemies and send my dice to morkai if they continue their streak of suckfail. Blindhamster
mate, how much of that face was sculpted? it's impressive (what did you use as the base for it? (I see plastic showing through a little)) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2799331 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
its essentially 100% sculpted, i just needed something hard to work from and so used a suitably carved down lump of plastic as a base.. its my 3rd attempt at a 28mm head. still need to improve its nowhere near the standards of some people, but hey ho. oh and i thought id show a pic of the change in direction id taken with the wolves since last time i tried to do them http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/wolf3-1.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/DSC00477.jpg tried for a more traditional blue originally but in all honesty didnt like it, it made them look too cartoony for my liking. Marshal Wilhelm
He looks really good. It reminds me of a miniature I have already made many many decades before *cough cough* :D I am not sure we get to see this pose in GW miniatures very often. I like it. Have you shown them of the Fang? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232227-wolf-lord/#findComment-2807822 Share on other sites
