shaw3029
Welcome to my Iron Warriors painting log! If you have been following my Imperial Fist thread (in my signature) then you will already know that I have an airbrush and a lot of vehicles that I no longer want for my Imperial Fist army. So now I am planning to turn them into Iron Warriors with the eventual aim of selling them to fund the new vehicles for my Imperial Fist army. If you know anybody that might be interested then feel free to point them to this thread. Here is what I have to paint... http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsTanks.jpg That is; 3x Rhinos. 2x Predators. 1x Forgeworld MKIIB Landraider. 1x Forgeworld Dreadnought. (out of shot) So far I have undercoated all but the landraider & painted the Dreadnought. I have ordered a new ramp & a set of Rhino doors for the Landraider. I also have one set of Forgeworld Brass Etched Chaos symbols on the way which I plan to use on all the vehicles. The style I am aiming for is dark, dirty and gritty much like my Dozer blades that I recently painted for my Imperial Fist army. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Pre%20heresy%20Imperial%20Fists/SiegeShieldsAirbrush2.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/Pre%20heresy%20Imperial%20Fists/SiegeShieldsAirbrush.jpg The effect is achieved mainly with an airbrush and is a amalgamation of advanced techniques from the Imperial Armour Model Master Class Book. Hope you like what you see so far! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237982-shaw3029s-chaos-iron-warriors-painting-log/ Share on other sites
shaw3029
Here is the finished Dreadnought. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsDread2.jpg At the moment It has no Chaos Icons because Forge world are taking there time delivering them. I plan to add one across the right hand shoulder section. I just had to get started. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsDread.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/DSCN4879.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsDread3.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsDread4.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsDread5.jpg Comments & suggestions are highly appreciated! Especially at this early stage. Do you like the look? Will it sell?! Cheers! shaw3029
I put a few hours painting time in today. The rhinos are very nearly finished just need to attack them with a sponge and lots of weather powder. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorsRhinos.jpg This is how they looked pre weathering with just the boltgun metal, mithril silver highlight and a couple quick patchy sprays of a purple and yellow glaze. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/IronWarriorRhinos.jpg After that I applied a coat of hairspray, roughly sprayed a patchy coat of Iyanden Darksun all over and then took a paint brush with warm water and rubbed off the paint to created a weathered effect. I repeated the process again mixing the Iyanden Darksun with scorched brown for a darker effect. The same technique was applied to the hazard strips but with yellow and black. I then mixed rust weathering pigment with burnt umber oil paint & white spirit. This was then flicked onto the model using some paper and a old dry brush. White spirit was then sprayed through the airbrush to disperse the paint into the cracks and create some streaky effects. Hope you guys like them so far! Cheers! Dorns Padawan
Very nicely done matey, the dread has a lonvely IW feel to it - I like your gritty style of painting, very well suited to the IW! shaw3029
Cheers guys! The photos took me a lot longer to post than I expected as I lost the camera lead for a little while. I have changed the Rhinos and the dreadnoughts so the glass and buttons etc are now green. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/RhinosGreen.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/DreadnoughtGreen.jpg I think it gives them a bit more pop and makes them look a little more chaos. I have started painting the landraider which I hope to finish to the same standard as the Rhinos tomorrow. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/Landraider.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/Landraider2.jpg Cheers! Brother_Fatiswon
So now I am planning to turn them into Iron Warriors with the eventual aim of selling them to fund the new vehicles for my Imperial Fist army. If you know anybody that might be interested then feel free to point them to this thread. pretty sure that's a NO-NO here on B&C using the board as a method of advertising. (even if it's only to fund more modeling) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237982-shaw3029s-chaos-iron-warriors-painting-log/#findComment-2888706 Share on other sites
The Angelus Sanctus
As stated above the B&C as part of its policies does say 'No' to the concept of trading and selling. You've definitely put alot of time and work into getting these models done (and by all means showcase them here on the forum), however please don't offer to sell them. Tyrannicide
Did you use plasticard to achieve the extra armor plating on the Rhino? Kaldoth
I like what you have done so far! They look very nice  However, I think you could do a couple more things to really make them "pop." For example, I'd give your tanks a nice black wash in the crevices and around all the bolts. Same with your dreadie. It'll add some depth to the metal. As well, paint those hoses and lenses! While the Iron Warriors are definitely "Iron," some black or red tubing could really give your miniatures a nice crisp look. And more chevrons! All in all though, good work  -Kal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237982-shaw3029s-chaos-iron-warriors-painting-log/#findComment-2889216 Share on other sites

shaw3029
Sorry about that I didn't realise the forum rules on advertising. The rhinos armour plates are from chapter house studios. I have tried adding some more traditional highlights and black washing rivets etc but it takes away from the weathered look and doesnt work to well. I may do some more highlights on the dread as he is more like a infantry man than a vehicle so it would work a bit better. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/shaw3029/miscellaneous/Predators.jpg Here are the predators. Since the photo was taken I've finished them as well as the Landraider but its to dark to take pictures now so il get some tomorrow. Cheers! Sgt. Blank
Wow. The weathering is incredible, as is the striping. Can't wait to see some infantry (the Iron Within?) to go with those tanks! firestorm40k
Great weathering on the tanks, they certainly look like they've been in the thick of the action for 10,000 years! ^_^ Looking forward to seeing some infantry  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237982-shaw3029s-chaos-iron-warriors-painting-log/#findComment-2890692 Share on other sites
