winterdyne
Here's a test model for the Death Company, using some of the techniques I picked up doing the Black Templars I just finished. Basing to be completed with the rest of the squad, it'll match Mephiston's. http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/victor/bloodangels/deathco1_wip1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242767-commission-blood-angels-death-company/ Share on other sites
sioka
Very tidy mate, did you use a zenithal spray on him? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242767-commission-blood-angels-death-company/#findComment-2935301 Share on other sites
winterdyne
No, it's all hand work. I usually find using zenithal technique for black with a spray leaves too much glazing back to do. Much easier to throw on some rough highlights with a wide brush, then blend those in as needed. alejandrinus
Awesome job winterdime as always, the glowing effect of the lenses makes a good focal point on the mini, and the work on all the gems/blood drops are excelent. Much easier to throw on some rough highlights with a wide brush, then blend those in as needed. With this you mean just plain flat black and then extreme highlights on the edges or did you use some grey blended with the black first and then the higlights?, its difficult to see that in the pics, maybe its just the light reflected in the black. Well thanks in advance. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242767-commission-blood-angels-death-company/#findComment-2935387 Share on other sites

winterdyne
No, far rougher than that! The initial highlights are done with VMC Black Grey - about 3-1 black to codex grey should be close. Just paint on the tops of panels, really coarsely near edges etc, just to get a feel for where the highlight blends should go. Then do the edge / line highlighting. Try to be neater here, but don't worry about thick lines, just make sure you keep the highlight edge neat (wobble inwards will be hidden). We then go back to the black grey and blend in the codex grey line highlights till they're sharp. Then add black to the black grey and work down (about 50-50). Then pure black for the deepest recesses / shade areas. YoungWolf7
Looks nice, although I think blue lens would work better than green. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242767-commission-blood-angels-death-company/#findComment-2935407 Share on other sites
