IQ paints an army (Angels Sanguine)

A few months ago, I started up on an army commission for a local player, in an effort to drum up the cash for my trip to Games Day Chicago 2012. At this point I have a decent backlog of photos, as I'm about 1800 points into what will in the end be about 3000 points of Angels Sanguine. It's all tabletop quality, aside from the characters, which are pretty high tabletop, though not quite something I'd want to enter in a painting competition.

Anyway, I'll start with the completed characters so far, Astorath and Mephiston - there's still a Reclusiarch and a Librarian to paint before the end. ;)

And a top down view, which gives a more accurate tone to the colors (though the photos still washed out the depth of the red... I gotta work on my photography skills.)

Mephiston was actually the second piece I painted for the army. At the time, the client and I were still working out the tone of the army, which is why he ended up brighter than Astorath (and the rest of the army).

More in the next post!

Excellent work here! Client is most impressed, I bet. Nice red you have going on, very dark and brooding as befits the AS character; and I think I have stolen the idea for the stripes on the 'Raven. The only thing I would say (baring in mind these far surpass anything I could ever, ever muster!) is Mephiston's eyebrows are a bit, erm, big?

I look forward to more :)

Death Company is finished. The Storm Raven is magnetized, though the time constraint of turning all this around in 2 weeks left me needing to paint the extra weaponry later. Anyway, pics!

I'm coming up on the home stretch for the army; Just need to finish the Reclusiarch, and then I've got a Librarian, 1 Sanguinary Priest and 20 Scouts to finish out the force.

Librarian is finished, full pics are at http://www.coolminiornot.com/297745

20 scouts incoming in the the next couple of weeks, to finish out the army, which is approaching 3000 points.

Awesome army, as an Angels Sanguine player myslef I may be biased but I think it's the coolest Marine colour scheme going. I'm guessing you used transfers for the chapter symbol, would you mind telling me where they're from? Also are you giving the scouts helmets and going with the 'no bare faces' fluff or not? If so, what are you planning on using?

Cheers,

AGPO

He looks excellent, exactly how I like them with the weathering. Thumbs up.

How did you paint the blue, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks! I used three colors, wet-on-wet blended. my deep color is Necron Abyss, midtone is GFA Cerulean Blue Deep, and VMA White mixed with the midtone 2:1 for my highlight.

Thank you, I agree they are one of the cooler chapters out there (I'm a Space Wolf player, myself) All the skulls are transfers from the standard transfer sheets than come in SM squad and vehicle kits. The white wings, squad markings and numerals come from the same sheets. The red wings and the librarium skull on the Librarian are all just freehanded.

For the sniper scouts, we're just using the standard goggled heads; We've kept the helmets on pretty much everywhere else, so a few scouts with abnormally pale skin shouldn't be too bad. For the regular scouts, the client requested these. I think they'll turn out pretty well. Initially, we were planning some Kasrkin style heads, but getting enough of them in short order proved difficult.

Really like your style I followed your SW Dred blog feverishly. These guys look great for a tabletop force and I really like the Librarian conversion. Ive always had a soft spot for the AS as when I first joined these boards a guy called OwlMoonGuy was building some of the best AS Ive ever seen.

Thanks all for the comments :)

I saw those some time back, really fantastic stuff.

This is great. I was wondering how you did the OSL on the terminators. Airbrush or by hand?

That was all done by airbrush... took me 5 seconds per model. :D

Scout heads are from Puppets War http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=27

Mephiston was based with a 1:1 mix of VMCs Hull Red and Flat Red, layered with an increasing ratio of Flat red to pure Flat Red, and a final highlight of 2:1 Vermillion and Flat Red.

Thanks!
