Redemption2994
Hey everyone. I recently ordered the Forgeworld Brass Scorpion kit and after opening it, I just realized I have no idea how to assemble it. Does anyone know how to put this guy together? The kit comes with poor instructions and as much money as I spent, I'd hate to hack off something that looked like a mold line but wasn't. (There are lots of mold lines...) Does anyone know of a guide to assembling this guy or a finished model with close up pictures that show how he was built? Thanks in advance. I would like to use tomorrow as a chance to put him together. Here's a link in case you haven't seen the model yet. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4000...S-SCORPION.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/ Share on other sites
KaiserTJ1860
The only thing i can think of is Garden Ninja's excellent job that might give you some clues as to what goes where, other than that im just as in the dark as you. all the best, TJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3007771 Share on other sites
the damned artificer
I've recently built and painted one as a commission and found it very easy to figure out :) I don't know of any online guide, but if you post pictures of the parts you're in doubt of, I will gladly guide you to cleaning them properly. And yeah, unfortunately there's quite a lot of cleanup work to do. Redemption2994
What I am mostly worried about currently is the legs themselves. How would one pose it so the model itself doesn't become incredibly fragile? The two leg parts click together but they are insanely loose. Also, the ball joints don't seem to fit well. I lack a filing tool to work with atm and it seems like I'm going to have to put this guy on a base and glue all the joints shut :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3008516 Share on other sites
Redemption2994
Got 2 pictures here for you. First of all, what are these? Specifically, the middle parts? I know what the blade is for, I'm certain it goes on the tail gun. But the other parts? I'm clueless. And next, this right here. Those things around the ball joint are mold lines correct? Thanks again TDA Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3008599 Share on other sites

If you don't have a filing tool, get one before you continue your work. I can't help you with the assembly but this bit struck me as odd. Redemption2994
It strikes me as odd as well. I really do need better equipment... I had the luxury of assembling my Zhufor in the company of someone who had plenty of tools so I filed him nicely before assembling him. I usually just mangle my minis with my snips ^_^ Bad habit I gotta kick. cathar the great
I know that habit too well. If you look at my old tutorials in the modelling section of the Librarium you will see that I used to use random kitchen knives and nail files but trust me, the switch to real, well maintained hobby tool is going to improve your modelling a lot. This goes double for expensive models like that Scorpion. Now I can't help you with the first picture, but in the second, yes that looks like a mold line. If you unsure about parts, think like this: Is it in the way when I try to assemble something? -> Probably a mold line or resin flash I don't need Can you still see it after assembly? If yes, and it looks bad, cut it off. If no, don't bother removing it. Keep your cuts clean so you can re-attach parts you cut off by accident. EDIT: I'd also recommend asking a Moderator to move your thread to General PC&A Questions. People might be more willing to help you out and answer your questions if it is posted in the correct section of the forum. Redemption2994
Yeah, that's true. I was originally searching the WIP section for a thread that was possibly already in progress and got a little overzealous with the posting lol. How would I go about requesting this? cathar the great
PM either Angelus Sanctus or Owlandmoonguy with a request to move it. Both have answered me quickly in the past when I needed something. the damned artificer
I've written the answers in red inside the quote ;) Got 2 pictures here for you. First of all, what are these? Specifically, the middle parts? I know what the blade is for, I'm certain it goes on the tail gun. But the other parts? I'm clueless. the blade goes on either side of the tail, so you got that right  The middle part is the cannons/ flamer thingies that is supposed to sit underneath the big maw cannon on either side and the double barreled last part is the auto cannons which is meant to be mounted on the tail between the big auto cannon barrel and the blades And next, this right here. Those things around the ball joint are mold lines correct? Yeah the sticks between the ball joint and the armour are "gates" to enable the resin to flow without trapping air and they're meant to be removed, and the ball joints needs to be pinned to the socket to make sure they hold and the legs will need to be assembled in a fixed position to support the weight of the kit aswell Thanks again TDA Hope it helps :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3010114 Share on other sites
Redemption2994
Many Thanks TDA. I took this guy into the store and the local Handiman offered to pin him and clean him for me. I got the tail assembled and the Flamers in before I stopped hah. I appreciate your help. I'd of never guessed on my own. He offered to paint and finish it off for me for a small fee for supplies so I guess I'll be posting the finished one in the coming weeks with credit to him. Thanks again! the damned artificer
No problem man  Glad to hear you've got it under control as it's a lovely model but it takes a lot of work to finish it. I have a commissions gallery Here if you'd like to see the scorpion that I did :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3010465 Share on other sites
Redemption2994
Taking a look now. I did look at your Grey Knights yesterday. the damned artificer
Thanks  I'm currently working on a GK force as a commission on lava bases :) And my personal project these days is my pre-heresy Imperial Fists :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3010472 Share on other sites
Redemption2994
Oh Wow. You've certainly got talent man. I'll have to keep an eye on your work from here on out. I have another question. I got a broken socket on the Scorpion and a warped barrel on the tailgun. The guys in the store told me to email FW about it. How exactly would I address it? the damned artificer
You just send them an email on fworderenquiries@games-workshop.co.uk with some pictures of the parts and then ask if they can help you out :D Is the barrel miscast ?? because if it's just warped out of shape it can be fixed with some boiling water as it softens the resin and you can straighten the part out :P The one I build had the same problem. Redemption2994
Thats what the guy at the store told me. I believe you can see the warping in the picture I posted. However the broken socket is gonna result in the claw being unable to move at all =/ It wouldn't be a terribly big deal, but as much money as it costs. the damned artificer
Yeah, the biggest problem with the socket joints is that they don't really work that well in resin as they are more fragile and I'd strongly suggest you pin and glue the claws in place as well. Also ther really isn't much room for moving those claws around anyway :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248350-brass-scorpion-assembly/#findComment-3010523 Share on other sites
