BKZer0
Below I outlined steps for painting a burn effect on plasma and flamer weapon barrels. I did not take in-process pictures of the procedure I instead opted for some CG pictures I made. I will take pictures of the steps being performed on an actual model when I paint my next weapon. What you need: - Black Primer - Chaos Black/Abaddon Black - Boltgun Metal/Leadbelcher - Tin Bitz/Warplock Bronze - Devlan Mud/Agrax Earthshade Wash - Badab Black/Nulin Oil Wash Procedure: 1. Prime the part black. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/1.jpg 2. Paint the barrel/front of the weapon silver. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/2.jpg 3. Wash the barrel/front of the weapon with black wash. This will leave the metallic look intact, however the part will appear much darker and more realistic. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/3.jpg 4. Paint the front 50% of the weapon with bronze metallic. Try to fade the color if possible, but this is not critical. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/4.jpg 5. Wash the front 50+% of the weapon (everything you painted bronze plus a little more) with brown wash. This will drastically tone down the brightness of the bronze and add the burnt look we are trying to achieve. This step may take more than one wash to achieve the desired look. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/5.jpg 6. Wash the front 25% of the weapon with black wash. This will add the charred look (think carbon build up). Add a few coats until the tip almost appears black. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/6.jpg 7. Paint the very tip of the weapon black. This is the final touch. Make sure this step is only performed on the very tip of the weapon as it can ruin the effect. This will complete the charred to burnt look of a well used weapon.http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/7.jpg That's it, you are done. Here is a picture of a finished plasma pistol with this procedure performed. http://www.40k.zombiecrisis.org/Burn/8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287114-painting-burnt-barrels-for-plasma-and-flamer-weapons/ Share on other sites
Daevyll
Thank you for this. Step #7 was what was missing from my recipe, so simple yet so effective.
