Hi all.

 

So, since I started doing my World Eaters I have mainly been painting infantry and drop pods. I decided that I needed a change and as I have had him converted for well over a year I decided to paint this guy.

This is my interpretation of Styvath the berserker who is pictured on the last page of Betrayal. He is my first attempt at oil weathering and I am pretty flipping pleased with the outcome. I do hope you like him as much as I do.

Wow! Just over 3 months since my last post. Well I've got a few updates to do over the next few days and here is the first. I enjoyed painting my first contemptor so much I decided to paint a second straight away.

Overall I'm chuffed with how this one turned out, I'm particularly happy with the base and the verdigris on the eagle. Thoughts as always welcome and I should have some more updates to come.

I agree, this is one hell of a model! But I look at it and see he is seething with rage. His body is angled, the fingers are clenching and unclenching, he's head is tilting forward, He's just about ready to attack!

Cheers guys, i'm glad he has met with approval. I actually got this model just over 3 years ago as a birthday present from my other half and only now have I gotten around to painting it. As for his posing I find it interesting that he is giving off different impressions to different people. For me he is the noble warrior surveying either the carnage around him or contemplating the violence to come. Either way I have a number of dreadnoughts planned covering a number of different aggression levels.

 

I will leave you with my first proper shooty model and the first tank for my force.

I painted most of this over a two day painting course with MKA studios. Personally I think it has turned out wonderfully and I've now started applying what I learned to my other models.

Really liking the use of the DE Raider chains on that Contemptor.  Excellent use for the bits that I swear will not work with the actual kit they come with!  I may well have to pilfer this idea for my own Contemptor!

 

For me, Mr. "Thoughtful" Contemptor calls to mind Lhorke in Betrayer.  Very cool.

 

And great weathering on that Vindicator.  How did you do the Demolisher muzzle and the exhausts?

@Ovidius, they are air brushed brass then old chestnut ink or something similar and then black working up toward the top. As for Lhorke, I know what you mean but I will be doing a model for the first legion commander.

The fighting pits of the 12th legion appeared uncontrolled and chaotic to the rememberancers that accompanied the 12th legion on the great crusade. If they had been able to remain with the legion longer they may have witnessed the individuals that controlled the pit fights, keeping the traditions of the legion and in turn protecting the warrior spirit of the 12th.

 

The pits of the World Eaters were overseen by a number of veteran warriors whose role was to enforce the rules and conduct of the pits and dispense punishment upon those that repeatedly transgressed against those rules. A legionary that earned the wrath of a pit lord may incur a literal breaking of the chains used to bind his weapons to his arms during combats, signifying a breaking of the bonds of brotherhood and a source of shame for said legionary.

 

The ritual of breaking earned the  chains earned the pit lords the moniker of 'Chain Dogs' and it was these respected individuals that would be prove to be the perfect candidates for newly devised chaplain edict.

 

This model came together an absolute treat. Hugely inspired by the chaplain that Poom did as you can see by the power maul so thanks must go to him. Hopefully my short piece of background writing gets across my idea well enough, my thoughts are a little muddled this evening as I'm just flippin knackered.

 

Anyhoes, let me know what you think about him.

@Ovidius, the legs and right arm are the power armoured preator, Torso is from the rampagers, mk3 backpack and left arm, plasma pistol is a plastic chaos marine part, the shaft (snigger) of the maul is from a space wolf rune priest and the head of the maul is a meteor hammer.

 

@ Oss, I had considered adding a slight turquoise wash to the plasma coil but forgot to do it so I may revisit that part. The eyes are set quite deep so while I have highlighted them they don't really stand out in the pictures.

 

Forget to say the right pad is from master crafted miniatures.
