Ohhhhh hail yas!

Next up, Repulsor! Or Land Raider. Dealer's choice.

^_^

Well I think first I'd better finish a unit of these guys :D

After that I'm actually planning a couple of Razorbacks / Whirlwinds and a Predator...

Holy C... Emperor! That model is awesome!!!

As a Raptor player myself, I dare say this is one of the best Raptors, if not the best I've seen as of yet. And as a hobbyist, I'm quite envious of your skills! If you paint more Raptors, i have to ask : please do a tutorial like you did for the Blood Angels on your blog.

Inspiring work Brother, keep it up!

This. Good base texture, subtle battle damage and dirt, and edge highlights that come off as realistic lighting (instead of cartoon). Definitely the best Raptor I've seen so far. How long does one guy at that standard take?

When I saw you were about to start Raptors, i thought "I'll get me coat".

I've spent so much time dribbling over your Death Company whilst trying to work out painting black I expected something a bit special, and that guy is no disappointment.

Thanks for the comments all!

This guy took probably 2-3 hours, but now I know what I'm doing I'm sure I can bring that down. It will come down per marine anyway as I'll be somewhat batch painting in 5's.

I will do a tutorial, but probably after I've finished a 5 man unit because I am actually interested in knowing how long it will take and want to time it!

Very nice looking. What's your setup for photographs? I looks like you've got the model up on a block. I'd love to see a shot of your setup as I'm considering if I want a macro-mat or to just throw something together myself.

Thanks mate! I use a light box which has some thin plastic sheets for backdrops (white, cream and black). I use a flexible strip light for lighting (http://www.artifolk.co.uk/accessories/lamps-light-boxes-projectors/daylight-unolamp-with-clamp.htm) so I can move it around easily. I just set this up on the floor and have my camera (Canon G12) about 2-3 feet back from the model on a mini tripod. The wooden block is a new thing - it just helps to get the view more face-on.

I wouldn't recommend my lightbox - it's quite big and it doesn't fold up so I have to keep it in the garage. Next time I get it out I will take a photo of the setup and post it here.

I've backed Foldio3 on Kickstarter so will be getting one of those soon(ish) :)

Woah woah woah ... 2-3 hours?  Tell me that's just for the paint job.  Even then, only through witchery could such amazing work be done within that time frame.

:P

That is just paint - not building the model. The airbrush steps really only take a few minutes, then it's a wash all over and the armour base is done. The longest part is applying the decals and base coating the other areas - but there aren't many colours on Raptors. Highlights and details go quite quick.

I'm going to do a 5-man unit and literally run a stop watch :D

I wish I could master the way of the airbrush too! Such smooth transition achieved so quickly is massive help when painting a full army. But still, washes, smart weathering and detailing is what should bring the models to life. The more I look at your Raptor, the more I think it's the wash that does the trick - it probably is a dark, reddish brown like Burned Umber and the red hue makes the green pops out even more.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, I'll be waiting for the next five guys with anticipation
