Time for a new test

I pivoted from terminators to aggressors...fists have higher AP and I like T5 in this meta

I have a unit of 6 so I can guarantee RND if I arrive from reserves

I am also testing scorpion characters...the Northern Front SW group swears by them in successor lists

Left flank sisters run forward and repentia get buffed and come out looking for my wulfen
Middle he sends in 1 repentia from the rhino and retributor1
Right flank he pushes up with sacrasants and retributor2
He rolls 6 with zephyr RND attempt and fails
Transhuman only stops 1 wound and he meltas my eradicators to death
This exposes my CM (oops)
I have to burn a CP but he survives the mistake
He makes all charges right flank
Left flank he charges culexus only and avoids wulfen (he thought long and hard how to hurt me and decided he would make me spend CP to heroic and get me...I was like uh nope...have fun with the assassin)
I HI the incursors instead to get free safe movement forward
Repentia whiff and do 0 damage to culexus (I make all 4 4++)
Culexus kills 2 repentia in return
LS explodes but he saves the MW
Far right wolf dies and he consolidates around it

I bring on aggressors left flank to clean up repentia
Assassin falls back (this doesn't stop oath...he isn't astartes)
Wulfen chill 1" behind the wall for next turn
Incursors push up the middle between his blockers
LS2 hops to middle on objective
Flamers move up to charge retributors and flame repentia in middle
Chaplain jumps in with aggressors
LS3 pushes up to shut down retributor OW and help with charging
MH denied on a 6...doh
LF fire at his middle retributors
He makes 3/5 5++ saves against LF
Cherub pops and LF kills 2 more...only 5/10 and he plans to rezz...doh
Bolt aggressors kill repentia on left flank real easy
I take a ton of shooting to clear middle repentia but get the job done with 2 flame aggressors in range
I also kill 2 sacrasants with flamers (fishing for him to roll 1s basically)
I make all charges except bolt aggressors out of reserve
Key here is LS multi charging sacrsants and retributors...this prevents him from using HI
I activate LS and consolidate away from sacrasants to leave them doing nothing
The sacrasants can HI so I had to nufflify them
21 fists land on retributors and after miracle dice and CP shenanigans I just barely kill 10 retributors off the objective to steal it
I get stranglehold
I am also down to 2 CP after burning all my tricks
-keen senses on LF
-assault doctrine on flame aggressors
-auto chant chaplain
-shock and awe from LS to shut down overwatch

My LF roll a 6 for every MM wound...the emperor protects!!!
Canoness kills 4/5 Aggressors
I use last 2 CP to interrupt and swing at sacrasants
Roll a bunch of 1s and 2s...but I kill 1
Zephyr only do 1 damage to him b/c too far away to get tons of attacks
1 aggressor lives!!
Chaplain maaaaybe survives if he gets lucky
He gets 3 6's with his PF and kills sacrasants!
Vahl only kills 1 incursor and has to use special ability to finish them off

I put CM rerolls on pink infiltrators but forget the scorpion special rule (new list...doh)
Chaplain fails to roll reroll all hits
Aggressors walk up and shoot sisters in rear killing 2
I fail to make 8" charge into novitiates
He saves 5/6 against my MM (turn about is fair play)
Infiltrators kill 4/5 zephrym with savage strike (would have been all 5 with scorpion rule....UGGG)
I kill vahl with wulfen
Take nothing significant in swing back

After miracle dice and CP stress I wipe BOTH squads to clear his obsec and take the point
My shooting is bad...his retributors save 3/5 MM
I mop them up in melee with CM
The librarian kills 1 seraphym and ties them up too
The HQs do their job and secure the middle
Wulfen smashes his repentia HQ then hugs rhino

This list is decent in the trading game on this map
Plenty of LS and cyber wolves to throw out if I can hide behind walls
I definitely missed our default successor tricks...I was forgetting double exploding 6's in the game
I have to remember the CM and his +1 attack trick in the future...it would have been huge if I used it

A good first battle for this list. I was a little skeptical on the Aggressors durability, but it looks like they can hold their own. I was also surprised you kept the flamer aggressors on the board considering their slow speed, but it did not look like this was an issue at all. In fact, all that make me wonder if Assault Centurions could be viable too. They do suffer from the lack of the Core keyword, but otherwise they are essentially Boltstorm and Flamer Aggressors combined into one unit. A single three-man unit is about the same cost as your five-man Flamer Agressors but would have a smaller footprint but a much better shooting output. What do you think?

I think loss of core is a big deal but try it out and see

 

I played the flamer aggressors as a counter assault in this map bc they could easily threaten mid and right objectives. The range wasnt an issue

I would usually take bring it down...but the map favors defense

I will roll the dice and gamble on oath...if I go 2nd I have a huge advantage for scoring

I need to burn a CP but incursors manage to advance and put 3 OBSEC on the middle to secure it and score stranglehold


Others move up slightly

The rest of my forces stay safe and hidden

I don't need it but I put full scorpion and CM buffs on the bolt-aggressors just in case and they move up to the wall for next turn to charge into the middle

Crowe and paladins exit LR and come at me...he has easy charge into my eradicators (oops didn't plan for that)


He only gets 2/3 purify thanks to my assassin being a pain


His paladin roll 6-6 inside culexus range for armor spell...means he perils but only counts as a 10

I deny on 11

He takes 1 MW for his efforts...funny sequence


He kills incursors in the middle easily


Left flank

Crowe charges and kills 1 eradicator only...lucky me!

Paladins kill my wolf and pile into eradicators + infiltrators


I kill 1 paladin with return punches from eradicators (he rolled 2 1s) and free up infiltrators


I forgot...after his charge phase I used HI and push my flame aggressors out beyond the wall for free 6" movement

I confirm he can't pile into me so it is free moving to set up my next turn

GM charges my aggressors

I HI my assassin and slide left around the wall to clear room for more aggressors to swing but remain out of engagement range

Assassin then pops soul horror (2CP) to make GM fight last

He uses his once per game 3++

Aggressors still put 8 wounds into GM with their full rerolls but fail to kill him

Time to counter attack hard


Left flank

Eradicators fall back leaving Crowe exposed for shooting


Chaplain gets reroll all hits and recitation of focus for LFs

Chaplain jumps up close to punch anything that survives shooting


LFs step left to barely get LOS on Crowe while avoiding return fire behind the obscuring terrain

3 MM can see him...should be enough with buffs

CM puts reroll all hits on aggressors and goes to stand by LFs to give RR 1s

RP pushes forward to assist aggressors

RP falls out of combat so I can shoot the NDK

Draigo is only protected by 3 GK...if 1 dies and I can snipe him

The infiltrators step out to rapid fire and fish for wounds

Chaplain jumps to middle to charge whatever survives


LS on left advances to snag the empty objective in his rear left

CM and infiltrators push up to defend the objective from terminators

SW victory!!!


I think the turning point was aggressors getting to swing first into his GM

That gave me a huge advantage and killing him gave me board control in the middle

If he didn't charge me I was going to bolter and charge him on my turn


I'm liking the aggressors so far. Punch real hard!

I’m impressed. I really didn’t think the Aggressors would do that well. I think the Wolves +1 to hit is huge. I just never hit that much with my Ultra Aggressors. Regardless this kind of showing vs GK is no joke.

I must say I'm also surprised both by the effectiveness of the Aggressors and their durability. Granted, you take care not to over-expose them but still they live long enough to cripple your opponent's units and achieve what you set them up to achieve. I think that your list has the correct balance of melee and range threats and that i probably what makes it work.

 

Oh! Thanks for pointing out the Soul Horror Stratagem. I completely forgot that it existed and it's a nice way to get a Fight Last trump card in a list, especially one like mine where there is no other way to get it!

I had no shot at winning to be perfectly honest.

That army trades too well and can't be stopped. All the harlie melee has fight on death from dark saedith so our fight last means nothing

I did enjoy the aggressor performance again...they are starting to grow on me

My goal is 3-1 in current meta with SW...I have a shot!

I used to play a lot of Aggressors flame types, with my ultras. They would have great multi over watch potential and better AP with ultras but always  whiffed in CC and I hated the Deathguard match up. I always ran a full squad with an upgraded apothecary.

The aggressors have the edge right now b/c I love their T5 and I can transhuman them if something big hits them.

 

What makes them work in my list is the special scorpion reroll tricks.  Reroll all hits is good for shooting + melee and I can get +1 attack per model and reroll all wounds v psykers

That makes the hail of shots and follow up melee LETHAL

Just curious - how can you take red scorpions and a SW successor in one detachment? Aren't we forced to pick either being a red scorpion army or a SW one? I got an error on battlescribe, but maybe its outdated.

Red Scorpions are a chapter with an unknown founding chapter. So you can pick space wolves or iron hands or whatever 1st founding you want. Then you use the red scorpions rules as the successor rules.

 

I don't know how that works in battle scribe, but it's a free community updated app so don't expect it to be perfect. They do a great job for what they charge us :).

Im still testing the flame v bolt options and dont have a favorite yet

 

I love cheaper flame and possible overwatch but range is a problem

 

I love long range bolt flexibility bc i can shoot 1 and charge another most of the time but hate paying more

 

IRL i have all bolter aggressors so that may influence later choices

I put LF in the DP and eradicators on the hunt
Left flank is wulfen + flame aggressors
All characters except CM here as well
Right flank is bolt aggressors + CM combo giving aggressors reroll all hits + bonus attack every turn
I put infiltrator on each flank and the incursor on the right
I expect the wolves to die immediately due to all the indirect fire so I put them up front...if I get 1st turn they can run out and touch objectives

Assassin runs out to touch left objective to secure stranglehold
Everyone else moves up and hugs walls
Infiltrators position with their 12" bubble to keep his flyers out of my backfield

The flyers come in on each flank
The assassin survives the SS but the flyer finishes the job

I have to go after the SS she has pushed in my face
Chaplain gets catechism of fire on flame aggressors and I put them in assault doctrine
Flame aggressors move up to threaten left SS
Wulfen move up to threaten right SS
LS2 goes middle for oath and stratagem to turn off overwatch
Drop pod comes in left side safe behind obscuring terrain
They have LOS to flyer and SS and should be safe from return fire
I get MH on left SS to turn off OW
Shooting phase is horrible...LF push 1 wound into flyer for 3 damage total (rolls were bad and had no rerolls around)
The 1 thing the LF do right is nail the middle SS with morkai bolts to help wulfen
Flame aggressors get 2 wounds through on left SS
Middle LS fires and I use stratagem to shut down OW
I make all charges
I savage strike my wulfen
THs at S10 and +1 to wound will be wounding on 2s and rerolling thanks to morkai bolts
Wulfen get a few 6's and land 14 TH wounds on the SS. After saves and CP it has 1 wound
Frost claws finish the job
I consolidate deep into her lines and take the rear objective away and touch a hammerhead
Left flank I manage 2 more damage with fists...these flame aggressors failed real hard
Wulfen did awesome but I'm sad...left flank is going to see heavy casualties...I was expecting a decent chance to kill flyer AND SS...but they are gonna erase everything I just moved

I am running low on bodies and need to hold back some resources and sacrifice others
Chaplain goes middle to earn oath and take objective...he is dead but this is worth 8 VP (oath + stranglehold + mission secondary)
Incursor on right flank advance out and touch objective near his SS...obsec takes it away
I bring eradicators in my rear left...easy shot on his left flank flyer and safe from counter attack
Eradicators splash the flyer
I score my secondaries

She flies her plane to my rear and shoots at eradicators but only kills 1 and takes a ton of MW for the attempt
She drives her hammerheads forward to try and get board control going

Eradicators walk up and left to get LOS on hammerhead and blast her off objective
Infiltrators run out to touch objective as well
Right flank I run infiltrators out to touch the middle
I keep the aggressors back after debating...they get CM rerolls and shoot her weak flyer down in my DZ

She pushes deep into my lines with his her hammerheads
I HI and CM gets 6" free movement to threaten mid objective

Last hurrah!
I took a moment to look at the score and see if I can win...I'm surprised the score is so close.
I see a path to victory
Aggressors get full RR
I see the board and laugh at my HI...the CM retreats back behind the wall where he started
Aggressors come out and shoot 2 wounds off near HH
CM charges from behind the wall to prevent overwatch
Aggressors charge in after
I punch the hammerhead to death then consolidate to touch my home and middle objective
I get 2 objectives
I get bring it down
I get control of the middle (5 pts end game)

I lost almost all my models but was able to hang in with scoring to pull it off
I LOVE the nerf to indirect fire...saved my ass having 2+ save for aggressors
The T5 was a big deal too and helped filter a bunch of indirect fire wounds
Random note as I was writing this I defaulted to "he/his" and had to go back and edit it. I know of 3 women in the community that I run into for matches but this hobby is so lopsided my brain just defaults to a male opponent when I write recaps.
That was interesting to me...anyways

all depends on the terrain

 

if i can hide out of LOS but reach objectives i feel good

 

i actually had a match against the type of tau you mention but our schedules didnt match so i had to forfeit the round

I really haven’t played Tau since their new codex but I always disliked the play style. 
 

honestly I don’t know if she had a top tier list but marines aren’t in that Tau tier from what I see but you did really good to win this one. I don’t want to take speeders if I can help it but you see a turn like your turn 1 and there’s a lot of benefit there. Great game.

No need to worry battle brothers.

 

I met my quarterly work quota and am on vacation right now.

 

Have 5G at the camp site in Zion by the river.  Wasnt expecting to be able to check my emails etc.

 

Will start up a new saga in july when i return home.  Not sure how we will fare in Nephilim.  Stranglehold was a big part of my battleplan.  Struggling to build an army for new meta so far.
