About this blog

A Blog about resurrecting my Saim-Hann army, started in the late 90's but with some models left forgotten in my Pile-of-Shame until being built in 2022.

Progressively undergoing an organic growth, first through legalization of units of old and then an external growth by adding Ynnarii and Drukharii. And still going on.

Ynnari Priestess - a quick kitbash

Hi folks,   I have decided to refrain from painting anything 40k related for the next 30 days, until the launch of CtA25. yet, in the mean time, it does not mean I have suspended all hobby stuff. Models to be painted require being prepared and built for example.  In this vein, I had this Magus character from the GSC Combat Patrol left. And, as you might know, I do not play GSC (and/or pretend I do not hobby these lads neithers). What can I do with this model if it is not GSC?

Evil gooses. And armed to teeth.

Hi folks.   It is done. These Scourges couldn't stay WIP for too long. I took oportunity of some free time on Saturday to complete the bodies and put final glue touch. I end up with enough models to build up 2 squads, distributing the HW between these. I preview deployments with a anti-tank tooled up squad and an anti-infantery/multi-purpose squad. Assault weapons were kept as spare parts to kit bash some Corsairs from all these extra Guardians bodies I have stored. But this will

Ornithology

Hi Folks,   I did not plan painting my scourges right now, yet I couldn't help but starting them, mainly for lack of primer rattlecan: I cannot prime anything ang the spures of the scourges were already primed a while ago (Once upon time in a Realm far far away...).    If I set back the true reason of getting these scourge I can list 2 which arrive close at the end of the race: 1. Getting spare parts for kit bashing COrsairs from Guardians body: Special weapons and Carab

Aether Sailing - Part IV - And now comes the Raider

Hi Folks.   Although I did not benefit from the bank holiday at 100% (Being in a new position I have no day off allowed to complete and extend such vacationnal opportunities atm) I managed to complete the painting of the Raider in a very short time span. I am slowly recovering the production rhythm I had last year at the same date, before moving and losing my hobby space. Temperatures raising allowed me to invade the green house set next to the hhouse, although I shall store my paints

Aether Sailing - Part III - Ravager

Hi Folks,   Even I've started my test model on a Raider, I slowly but surely switched to the Ravager before completion of the former. My vehicle hunter has therefore arrived to port COmpletion earlier than the troop carrier.   This kit has been complicated to assemble once came the moment of the sponsons. By prepainting I affected most of thicknesses for stems and grooves because of too thick layers. Some assemblies required therefore removing paint and or cutting a little bi

Aether Sailing - Part II

Hi folks,   Work has progressed these days. Both hulls and sails are now done for the Raider and the Ravager.    The raider is closing to completion, with all main parts done, except the crew. The sailors operating this assault barge are about 50% done, with all base colours applied; detailing will take more time, especially the weapons as I tried new tricks, a.k.a. not painting their tools of death in a single colour... It is a process. So it requires time.

Aether sailing - Part I

Hi Folks,   It has been a while since I touched to my Dark kins.   My initial motivation was guided by the reinforcement of my (old, very old) Aeldarii army. My plan was to go Ynnarii and add a tactical depth brought by the deep striking Dark Eldars plus some signature units such as Scourges and Mandrakes. The plan was blown away by the Release of the Aeldarii codex. Which left me with some minis unbuilt and waiting in the pile of shame.    I decided it was tim

Void Dancers: Narrative for "Knives in the Shadows" challenge

Hi Folks,   Today's contribution will be a different one: the narrative due to come along the painted minis for the "Knives in the Shadows" challenge. An exercice I am not very familiar with. Let's see how it sorts out:   ____________________________________________   The master of the Esdainchii was carefully watching at the stage. The troop was jumping and flipping around, dancing a Masque very few had seen played, even among the near immortal Asuryanii. As f

Void-Dancers: a kill team for the "Knives in the Shadows" challenge

Hi Folks,   After a while disconnecting from the hobby due to material contingencies including a home relocation (New Year / New Job challenge), I resumed this quarter hobbying with a small KT for the challenge hosted there:   https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384972-knives-in-the-shadows-sign-up-thread/?do=getNewComment   I selected the team on the basis of simple criterias: - being usable in 40k as a standardized unit - completing holes in my Aeldari

Digressing about Aeldarii Corsairs...

Hi Folks,   My Curiosity/Interest/Call-it-like-you-want has been activated some weeks ago when Valrak's runoured that the Eldar Corsairs could have a kind of extended release of new units forming a new xenos' faction. Incredulity was my first feeling. Indeed, my references, or at least what comes to my mind when Corsairs are mentionned, is the army list published in FW Imperial armour book vol.11: The Doom of Myrmeara.   Since that time, the Drukhari evolved in such a pr

Mustering some Drukhari - How to get to 1k pts?

Hi Folks,   I have been giving a though on how to make my Drukhari Pile-of-Shame a playable force - with a 1000 pts target. My force has been gathered initially with an Ynnari only focus: getting that deep striking touch and late objective grabber tactics available to complete an Ynnari force that is mainly Guardian built.   For that I invested into a Combat Patrol box that gives a nice all round unt selection with cool deep striking vehicles. On this core I added 2 unit

Consolidating my Ynnari - A Drukhari test model

Hi folks,   As part of my Asuryani force, Ynnari oriented, I had marked on my list the addition of deepstriking units under the form of a Drukhari combat patrol plus other stuff. I've already painted the Incubus as part of the CtA24. Comes the time of the Kabalites.   I have hesitated quite a long time before choosing a colour. I finally decided myself for an Akhelian green. It is close to a teal colour that can traditionally be associated to the dark kins. Their alliege

Mandrakes done

Hi folks,   I completed my mandrakes tiday, putting final snow touch to their base and correcting some clown noses caused by miscontrol of white paint for hairs.   My inspiration was this illustration:     It is slightly different from the usual paint job of GW; mainly as hexfire is blue and not greenish. I found it more convenient and more adapted to bring a common point in terms of colours with the swirling soul wave of my Yncarne. All these models are

Ynnari fun facts... and painted Yvraine

Hi folks,   As I had time to waste while some minis were drying, I spent some time reading fluff, something that I did not do for at least 10 years.   Just to give you a small idea, I left if long time before the opening of the great rift the Imperium Nihilus and the Primaris stuff. Whatever one can think about the “event” and the story moving further (I won´t enter in another controversy for something that is and will stay. Like it or no), one positive move as far as I am co

A Vypers' nest

Hi folks,   The Vyper has been a very emblematic Eldar (a.k.a. Aeldarii) vehicle for a long time now. 1996, as per the date marked on the sprue of the one I assembled and painted recently. My 3rd one. While reading through some recent rumours related topics, the theme of the Vyper has been evoked. More precisely the need for a redesign/revisit of the venerable model. Nice topic. I do like wishlisting too.   Yet, is it a topic really? It does not really matter how st

Why play Ynnari?

Hi Folks.   There are as much reasons to choose and play an army than players. Or maybe not that much but a least a serious amount. So I will not pretend listing them all or even pretending covering the main ones. I will instead stick to a selfish and auto-centered exercise on why did I choose to build up an Ynnari force. I am not really an Eldar guy. I liked them and even started gathering an army in 96. I bought and stored some models, essentially after recovering some guar

Thinking about expanding the Host - Part 2

As introduced in my previous BLog entry, I am thinking into expending my Saim Hann host but I still don´t know which way I will follow. Among the ways I foresee there are the extentions of my battleline units (see Part I) and/or getting more Jetbikes.   So, let´s dive into Jetbikes now. As previously the comparison will be based on the units of both Aeladri and Dark kins nits. I will exclude the Shinning Spears though, as I alredy get one of those and do not really foresee ge

Thinking about expanding the Host - Part 1

I am thinking into expending my Saim Hann host but I still don´t know which way I will follow. There are different stuff that I like in the Eldars, all tastes together: Character and aesthetic of their infantery, especially the Core Jet bikes Versatility and cross bridging that goes with the various subfactions that can be combined (Craftworlds, Corsairs, Harlies and even Dark kins through the Ynnari option)          Now that I reach a point wher

Appearances are deceiving...

I have been a little bit surprised, as most, with the way point values for the Datasheet of the indexes were set. Especially in respect of cost managment of the options. Or rather in respect of the total lack of cost managment of the options. I already stated in other places of B&C that in my opinion, the whole design (from profiles to poitn values) would be te result of a series of probabilities to suceed vs. an average profile defined a rating reference. of course this is theory as th

The cost of 10th - What I will have to spend to legalize my armies

The release of the Indexes has introduced some changes in unit composition and minimums. Some of the armies I gathered in the past will have to go through a good face lifting in order to be able to be fielded under the new unit canons.   I am no affected for the big Space Wolves faction of mine - sure a lot of stuff is probably not as it should be per the Index but I bet I have more than enough to rebalance and equilibrate some legal squads without necessity of investing again.
