Phase 3 - Game 4

Xaphan spit out wrath and bile at the enemy. Thin-bloods again, the shadowy Ubral Reavers of the new Primaris breed. They had fought once, these Emperor-lovers who moved like mist and struck at strange angles.

Very little went right in this battle. Weapons jammed, blades lost their power-fields or shuddered to a halt, orders were stolen by vox-thieves. Fallen champions were caught out in the open and hounded to death.

The Forgotten didn't go alone, they fought with all their might. Havocs destroyed tanks and both Suriel Terminator squads smashed through Imperial defenders. It was not enough as only one macro-bomb was planted and the raid failed to achieve dominance.

Xaphan could only seethe. His part in this war was over and he awaited his masters' decision on the accomplishments he had achieved. He was confident in his prowess and skills, but now he could only bide his time and nurture his hatred.

Round 1

Reavers turn 1 - Reavers pour on the fire in the first turn, Repulsor Execution disgorges Bladeguard and kills the Predator, while the Bladeguard wipe out a missile-launcher Havoc squad.

Forgotten turn 1 - Lascannon Havocs take the Repulsor down to 9 wounds, but fail to finish it off. Xaphan and Chosen move up, but are unable to get of a charge into the Heavy Intercessors due to the squad losing members to Fallen shooting. Bike squads attempt both actions, Search is successful but Prime will not be.

Round 2

Reavers turn 2 - The rest of the Reavers deploy and the murdering really begins. Both bikes squads taken out, one by the Brutalis dread and one by Reavers shooting. Chosen all of their members in shooting, leaving Xaphan on 2 Wounds.

Forgotten turn 2 - Legionnaires in Rhinos and Sar Ornias with his Chosen deploy (Ornias squad not pictured due to me sucking at pics). Xaphan charges and kills off a couple of Heavy Intercessors but dies to the return swings, Ornias fails a charge so can't kill off the Vanguard Vets squad on the lower objective. Havocs do manage to kill off the Repulsor.

Round 3

Reavers turn 3 - More moving and shooting of the Forgotten by the Imps. Cypher finally goes down to shots, as does a Rhino from the Gladiator Lancer on the right.

Forgotten turn 3 - Termies and Raptors drop down, a Search is completed and the center objective finally cleared of Heavy Intercessors from a combination of Rhino/Legionaries shooting and Raptor charge/Rhino tank shock. With how the Brutalis moved off the leftmost objective to get closer to the Rhinos, the Forgotten push off the Umbral Reavers from every objective bar the second to left that is full of termies. This round would make the game go to turn 5, as otherwise the scoring from the Reavers would have ended the game in round 4.

Round 4

Reavers turn 4 - More shooting and movement from the Loyalists. Reavers squad charges the termies on the lower objective but bounces off. Rhino in the center gets taken out by the Brutalis. The Raptors and Legionaries in the center manage to have a single Legionnaire Champion survive an assault by a Vanguard Vet squad, in the process causing the Vets to become Battleshocked.

Forgotten turn 4 - Legionary Champion holds the center and Searches it for the final time, while the upper termies plant a bomb.

Round 5

Reavers turn 5 - Reavers rip through the remaining Forgotten, leaving only two terminators in the lower squad and the Eligor himself in the upper.

Forgotten turn 5 - Game ends as neither the Eligor nor the remaining termies can get away to plant a bomb/control their objectives.

Thoughts

For some reason I've had terrible luck against this army. With how good the Forgotten have been against the Imperial Fist SM in this Crusade, you would think an army that is slightly squishier and not as deadly in shooting would be easier, but no such luck. I do think I probably should have selected Defender rather than Attacker when I won the roll-off, but I don't know if that would have helped too much. Losing 1st turn really did hurt- my Predator was not placed great and that led it to dying without accomplishing really anything in the first turn, as well as my missile launcher Havocs taking a Bladeguard charge to the face. Still, I did much better than my previous match (when I couldn't kill a single unit), and was quite happy with my play from turn 3 on. Still, I won't be sad to not have to face a Vanguard list for a while.

I'll work up a small blurb about the Crusade as a whole in a few days, once the final battles are completed and we get the overall results in.
