Tangling razor cutting webs

Hi Folks,

It looks like I recovered a painting rhythm worth of the one I had during lock-down. Indeed, I completed a new squad into something like 3 days again. This time we talk of Warp Spiders.

These Spidey’s fan boyz (and girlz) were pre-painted separating them into 4 batches: Bases, Bodies, Warp Generators and Weapons. Then they underwent final assembly.

This is where the things went less comfortable. I must admit I did my clipping poorly and mixed parts that do not correspond to the exact same model. With the design of the sprue as it is, one shall be aware that parts are not fully compatible to be swapped from one model to another. It is advisable to follow strictly the numbering of the instruction manual. Anyway, if no one goes looking at the details of the joints underneath the Warp generator, in the end it is hard to detect which model required some cuttings and adjustments and which one is as per the genuine instructions.

The other all paint job has been rather straight forward. I was thinking about a paint scheme over the past 3 weeks but once decided for a simple one with limited color pallet, it has been rather easy to deploy. I went for something close enough of the GW scheme used on the Spider’s Phoenix Lord.

The black body was dry brushed with Eshin Grey and Thunderhawk Blue. I expected the last step will eventually suggest remanent buzzing energies from the last warp jump, but, let’s admit it, it is not really the case. Not enough contrast maybe or it is just the dry brush that is poorly done/not adapted for the purpose I seeked for.

The weapon and the warp lightnings were done in blue like for my Yncarne soul’s typhoon and Mandrakes flaming hands.

In the end it gives a rather nicely looking squad that will complete my Saim-Hann force with some extra mobility and a scary Spider Exarch able to execute swiftly weakened units by means of its 10 attacks.

Next step will be the Autarch and the riders of the Shroudrunners jetbikes. The latter are rather well advanced, missing only arms, weapons and heads. The former is a red coated mini.

See you folks,

PS: Painting these spiders has also be the opportunity for coming back to painting of a SW (partly). Or at least a helmet left at the feet of the token totem.

DISCLAIMER: No space pup has been hurt in this process. One shall remember that these weirdoes wandering around without helmet should naturally leave/forget them somewhere…
