Kit bash time - the Tactical Rock (Part I)
Hi Folks,
My assembly and kit bash jobs for my Asuryanii are in their final rounds. After making 5 Rangers using spare bitz from genuine Ranger kit and Shroudrunners, building 2 Voidreavers out of one KT Aeldari Corsair kit, I have stated building a third VoidReaver squad out of every little thing I could recover from my Eldar and Dark Eldar bitz bag.
I have managed gathering:
- 2 pairs of legs from ooP Guardians set
- 4 Kabalites from Drukhari Raider and 2 Wytches from the Drukhari Venom
- 2 cloaks from Harlies
- 5 Guardians from the 2022 kit
- 9 torsos from Eldar vehicle crews and jetbike riders.
I have therefore enough stuff to build up to 13 footsloggers. Theoretically speaking of course.
First task is to resolve the challenge of the dark Eldars bodies: these crew members present odd poses because of the purpose of the models: hanging on the side of the vehicles. Feet and legs may, because of that, show curious angles. Cutting and repositioning the feet is always an option. Yet it will require pinning and resculpting part of the leg because when you use the saw or the clips, you lose length… The search of an option that allows keeping the general pose is therefore a very suitable option. But you need pieces of scenery to support that such as poles, posts, ruined walls or columns… You may end up with something like that (the 2 guies doing fitness and street workout):
I am anyway short of that kind of scenery and items. So what’s left? The tactical rock(s)! Indeed it can be sculpted and molded out of a little bit of putty and with zero skill or almost. This is the way I’ve choosen, doing 6 bases in total, enough for all the Drukhari legs. Legs because the Rocks do solve the point of feet angles but not the one of arms. For these, I did it simple: cut/cut/cut. Torso will be changed with the ones from the Eldar crew. As these torsos are (leather) jacketed I may call the final squad the Black Rebels maybe…
Here are the six tactical rocks WIP:
- Stairs, out of sprue plastic and putty
- Spicky totem, out of spare Raider prow and putty
- Rocks, out of sprue plastic and putty, or putty alone
- Collapsed wall and/or armor panel, out of putty and waiting to be personalized with Chaos armored panels from the ooP CSM vehicle accessories sprue
The next step has been beheading the jetbike and eldar crew torsos in order to swap heads. And then final assembly will come, using a max of bitz left from Scourges’ kits: Short barreled carabines, Shredder and Blaster. Additional Corsair bitz (the flacon must be used somewhere) and other add-ons here or there (DE daggers or grenades) will do the job.
In the mean time, as you may see, I’ve molded a copy of the front part of and Harlie torso in order to get the 2 trench coats usable.
This is a little bit raw and the putty will have to be smoothed and reworked to get a cleaner effet.
Let’s see you latter in order to share the result and decide if this improbable assembly is not to dysmorphic and unbalanced.
