Game Overview

Agendas - To the Last (Setokh, X'ull, Nuun'kasi), King Slayer

Mission - Tortured Worldscape is an interesting one. 4 objectives (one in each deployment, two on either side of the middle of No Man's Land), with 6"-wide fissures running through them. The deployment fissure activates turn 1, then the left turn 3, right turn 5. Each battle round you take a Ld test for any unit that is within a fissure. If you fail you take d3 Mortal Wounds.

Opponent list - Big Nun Vahl w/3 Paragons, another 3 paragons, The Daemonfuge (Stern? I think her name is, with the Harliequin Outcast), 2 Battle Sisters units (one w/Canoness), Dominion flamer unit w/special character, Celestine and Zephrim (I think, powersword jumpies), a Penitent Engine, a Rhino w/4-man Repentia squad, and a Castigator.

Round 1

Sisters turn 1 - As usual the Necrons had moved up with Infiltrating Lychguard and tons of Scout moves, but the sisters had an Infiltrating Sisters squad and some Scouts of their own. A combination of Castigator, Paragon suit, and Sister squad fire killed off Iltep Timeworn's Stalker on the right objective, while other shots put pretty ineffectual wounds into the Lychguard on the left objective and Ma'ar the Mourned's Stalker on the left.

Necrons turn 1 - Shooting from Deathmarks and the Plasmancer Immortal squad killed the sister squad on the right objective, while X'ull and his Skorpekh smashed up the Dominion squad near the green building on the right. Nuun'kasi teleported back to put shots into the rear Canoness sisters squad, while the tomb blades and Ma'ar did the same. Shots by the Heavy Destroyers bounced off the Castigator, only dealing 6 wounds due to miracle dice shenanigans (a theme in this game). Lychguard and Setokh on the right would stay on that objective all game, simply gaining VP without taking more than three wounds all game (one from Paragon shooting this turn, then two mortal wounds in round 3 and 5).

Round 2

Sisters turn 2 - Rhino moved up and dumped its Repentia, while Celestine and her bodyguards came down near the center of the battlefield. Shooting from the Castigator and a Repentia charge killed the Immortal squad on the left objective, while Vahl and her Paragons put massive wounds on Nuun'Kasi (taking her down to 2 Wounds left...melta...). Due to a strat, Nuun'kasi was able to move closer to the wounded Canoness squad and make the Vahl charge too long to make, while the Canoness squad tried and failed to kill her in melee and were in turn obliterated. Skorpekh get hammered by the fire from the Castigator and anything else that can shoot them, losing the entire squad but leaving X'ull alive. Due to fissure damage, the Tomb Blades and Deathmarks wind up with one member left. Stern and her sidekick kill the Tomb blades.

Necrons turn 2 - Both Triarch Praetorian squads come down, one on the enemy deployment objective and one near the single lone character left from the Dominion squad to kill her off. Xull rips through the Repentia while Nuun'kasi fails to kill off Vahl and her squad, falling after killing only two Paragons (first time anyone has killed the C'tan in the Crusade). Ma'ar the Mourned kills off the Zypherim and a Celestine bodyguard.

Round 3

Sisters turn 3 - Celestine and Ma'ar slap-fight each other, while the Rhino and X'ull do the same. Vahl and her Paragon kill off the Praetorians on the upper objective, while Stern kills a Heavy Destroyer. Deathmarks die due to fissure Mortals.

Necrons turn 3 - Ma'ar shoots Celestine dead, then stomps her again to finish her off finally. The Praetorians on the left move to reinforce X'ull, who finally kills the Rhino. Castigator again dodges any damage from Heavy Destroyer fire.

Round 4 (no pic...)

Sisters turn 4 - Non-Vahl Paragons charge X'ull but fail to kill him, he in turn only kills one of them.

Necrons turn 4 - X'ull kills off another Paragon, while the Praetorians charge to help him and whiff. Return smacking kills off two of the Praetorians.

Round 5

Sisters turn 5 - Game is super close at this point. Sisters have 80 points, curtesy of Necrons doing terribly with the last fissure roll and both remaining Heavy Destroyers taking 3 mortals, killing one of them (Vahl also lost her last Paragon to fissures, making her lose all re-rolls). Necrons will have 80 points on their turn just because of the Lychguard sitting on the left objective, and will get a winning 5 VP if any of the three units on the right (X'ull, a 1-wound Heavy Destroyer, or two Praetorians w/3 wounds total) kill off the single Paragon left, or the Heavy Destroyer manages to punch through the Castigator, which is possible with the only Miracle Dice left to the Sisters being a 2. Stern psychically blasts the Heavy Destroyer, while the Paragon in combat Falls Back (unit is upgraded to Fall Back/Shoot/Charge). Sisters' dice fail them at this time, with the Castigator, Vahl, and the last Paragon combining to do 4 damage to X'ull, and a charge that only does 2 damage to the Praetorians from the Paragon (Vahl failed a 9" charge with a command re-roll).

Necrons turn 5 - X'ull heals up to 6, putting him past the To the Last limit, and kills the last Paragon. Necron victory.

Thoughts

Whew, this one was super close. I thought I was going to run through the t3 Sisters easy, but they had surprising durability, especially with invulns and the ability to use 2 Miracle Dice for each unit. My Heavy Destroyers put 1 shot through into the Castigator out of I think 10, while the Paragons tanked both my C'tan and upgraded Skorpekh Lord very respectfully. Not an easy fight at all, but a very good game.

Next week, a full 2k points against the Ultramarines. It'll be nice to have my full list, I'm excited to see what I can do. Mission is Pariah Nexus' Against the Miasma, so only objectives in No Man's Land, plus a -2 to Advance in NML and a -1 to Hit versus anything in NML.  List is as follows-

Detachment - Starshatter Arsenal

Necron Crusade bonuses - Can give 3 Infantry units 6" Stealth (+FLY for that move), can re-roll 1 Reanimate per battle round, if unit is below Half Strength they get +1 to Reanimate roll

Hexmark Destroyer (no upgrades, first game)

Overlord + 10man Lychguard (Infiltrate, 6+ FNP, 3 Wounds recovered during Reanimation, Stealth on Objectives, Overlord is +1 Wound, Lychguard ignore out of action rolls)

Plasmancer + 10man Tesla Immortals (Infiltrate, Cannot go lower than 1OC even if Battleshocked)

Skorpekh Lord + 6man Skorpekh (Reroll 1s to Wound vs closest, Stealth, upgraded Hyperphase Harvester, Lord +1 Sv + T)

Transcendent C'tan (Reroll 1 to Hit and 1 to Wound, OC up to 7, once per battle can negate an attacks damage)

6man Skorpekh squad (Stealth)

3 x Heavy Destroyers with Gauss (2 have Ignore Cover)

5man Deathmarks (Ignore out of action rolls)

3man Tomb Blades (move +2, so 10" move w/3+ Save)

2x 5man Triarch Praetorians (both have re-roll 1st to Wound vs unit on objectives, one has a 6+ FNP)

2x Triarch Stalker (both re-roll Hits vs Infantry/Mounted, Ma'ar has 6+ FNP)

Very much a list designed for massive pressure via Infiltrate and Scout (will probably have both Skorpekh squads get Scout and maybe the Deathmarks). Going to be rough with the negative to Hit in NML, but should be offset by Starshatter's + 1 vs stuff on objectives. I don't think the Ultramarines player has a bunch of Infiltrator/Scout units, so I should be able to do a decent push turn 1/2 to get my melee stuff into his face, while the Lychguard sit on the center objective and just wrack up points like they love to do. Anyway, thanks for looking, see you next week!
