Adventures in the immaterium
This is not THE beginning of my time with daemons...but it is A beginning.
The local group has recently started planning a loose narrative campaign around the Badab war and a revisit of 5th in general, which got me looking at what I had in the backlog. While I have no interest in painting a non-heresy marine or xenos army at this time, I've had an on again / off again relationship with chaos in 40k (and Fantasy Battles) over the years. The result of that is a lot of unpainted daemons for projects that were shelved or stalled out as editions changed. I probably won't play many games in the 5th campaign, if any, but I have a decent enough number of daemons that I've decided to work on them. It will help reduce what it is in the Vault of the Unpainted if nothing else and will give me a meaningful diversion from Horus Heresy projects. It would also be entertaining to field daemons with the army wide deep strike rules from back then. And who knows...maybe 11th edition will do something interesting, and I'll end up using them for that. More likely is that I'll use them as stand ins for a Daemons of the Ruinstorm Horus Heresy force at some point.
I do have some other painted stuff for daemons that I've held on to. My plan is to leave them as is although I don't remember exactly what paints I used or how I did the bases...so I may end up revisiting them to make everything visually fit when I'm done. For now, I will not focus on trying to be consistent and see how it develops. This chaos spawn is an example one a model I kept...and a not fond memory of hacking about metal flamers of Tzeentch.

+ + + + + + + + +
Starting backlog (what I've found so far, pretty sure there is more I haven't gotten to yet):
Khorne
Bloodthirster
3 blood crushers
10 bloodletters (vowed for February 12 Months of Hobby event)
Tzeentch
Lord of Change
Burning chariot of Tzeentch
12 pink horrors
14 blue horrors
14 brimstone horrors (mostly painted but never based)
3 screamers
3 flamers
Here's the current state of the brimstone horrors. Fingers crossed I'll have them on painted bases before months end.
To help with motivation, I've decided to treat myself with a Be'lakor purchase should I get through my daemon backlog by end of year. Surprisingly, I've never picked up any of the versions of him despite them being on my favorites list! Even with the reward pledge, there isn't a guarantee I will get done by my self-imposed timeline. There are also have a number of Heresy related plans for the year and the inevitable work hassles that seem to disrupt my painting schedules.
