2 Color Schemes in 1 Army?

Okay, once again my color scheme ADD has kicked in by watching two historically accurate* films back to back (300 and 300 Rise of an Empire).

I was thinking that I could take my spearmen and paint then up in brass and red like the Spartans.

And paint my Sword and Shield troops and vehicles like the Athenians 1000076027.jpg.5c83b6402a33a3f0bb9d1780f5167703.jpg1000075968.thumb.jpg.66048f18f1590c27fb5566ea2b21d74a.jpg

Would it be dumb to have 2 different colored cloaks in the army?

What are your thoughts?

*in comparison to the other movies I saw over the weekend: Gods of Egypt and Godzilla (1954).

Not at all. Look at Dark Angels, their Veteran First Company, Deathwing, is basically mirrored with bone white armor instead of cloaks and green cloaks instead of armor. Then their Second Company, Ravenwing, is entirely black and white with the bone white cloaks. Absolutely nothing wrong with using cloak color to designate Companies or Roles, Black Templars use the entire shoulderpad to designate roles instead of company. They don't even use the standard markings, just different color emblem, trim, and/or main shoulderpad.

LOL, that Asterix is doing A LOT of heavy lifting.

To answer your main question though, no I don't think it would be odd at all, lots of armies, even in 40k had this. A lot of Space Marine chapters would have different coloured shoulder pads based on the company they were part of for instance.

I'm thinking I could make Spartan Wardens, give them a reason to be slightly more bad ass than my Athenian Custodes.

How would you do the armour? Runelord Brass?
