Big boy! I got the unpainted Flayed one for Christmas this year and its been on my desk (and accountability grid) since. There wasnt a huge amount of material on painting them, especially the flayed one, at the time (Though its better now) and playing with the thing, posing it, rubber ducking it and generally pack bonding made me loathe to rip its arms and legs off to give the conventional action figure basecoating. Id also originally planned a fixed pose, in a bell jar but again, kinda wanted him to play with still.
So he gathered dust for months, well, got used for the above unpainted anyhow.
Until i got on a big robot kick and just sprayed him all spreadeagled! I but nice dilute black around the joints with a brush too so there are no glaring grey points, genuinely would have been easier if Mcfarlane made em black though!

Its a really lovely detailed model, lots of battle damage and scuffs that wouldnt work on the smaller scale as well, so i played around using stippling to extend that, something even more visible on the back with the larger plain areas of armour (below). I was going to go for a more bone colour (with washes) originally but this grey tone evolved naturally and went better with the later weathering i think.
I did consider going for a flayer from the Ithakas dynasty as im just finishing off the Twice dead king series (Which probably helped motivate this!) but bright silver isnt often my style :D

The Dynastic badge was in fancy gold and a kind of green glow, not sure how well it turned out exactly! Similarly on the eyes, i was really happy with the slightly transparent flesh over one eye in particular! The blood daubed on the face plate was in tribute to some particularly excellent sections from Twice dead king. Its a great pair of books!.

I had three levels of gore on this, from flaky dry stuff all the way up to fresh, most of it on the claws! Logically the whole Flayed one would be dripping but then that looks like arse. I think i might have gone a bit too subtle but im pretty happy with the job, subtle stains and the odd spray all over pretty much ;)

And then the skin... I was both worried id screw it up and planning ambitious madness with this but it turns out bigger scale skin is waaaay easier! I figured tattoos would be a bit much after i popped gore on though, (i figured flayed ones werent exactly cleaning their skins) and i was happy with the final result.

So yeah, one big flayed one! Hopefully my thoughts help anyone else sitting on one. On a side note, these blogs feel a lot like talking to an empty room, any engagement would be good to show im not wasting my time! Like/Comment/rate/whatever :)
