Teaching Kids 40k
Well after a furious build session this weekend, I was able to build the my son's Hand of Khaine Kill Team consisting of 10 Striking Scorpions and 5 Dire Avengers, and need to get him 5 Howling Banshees.
to go against his brother's Death Guard
and his other brothers's Hierotek Circle which I need to get him a box of Immortals/ Deathmark (2 Gauss Blaster, 1 Tesla Carbine, and 2 Deathmarks) plus other 2 Characters; Chronomancer and Psychomancer.
So while the kids were looking over their models, I explained the 40k points per model to them and in attempt to explain the stats we ended up doing a little 1v1 at 40 points:
Forces
Coop's Aeldari- 2 Striking Scorpions and a Dire Avenger
Mikey's Death Guard- 2 Plague Marines
Chris' Necrons- 2 Deathmarks and Immortal w/ Gauss Blaster
Me Grey Knights- Grey Knight Terminator
Deployment: No Terrain and forces are deployed 24 inches apart. No infiltrators, or other special deployments.
Game 1- Aledari vs Grey Knight- I won roll off, moved forward, shot with Storm Bolter and armor saved by Scorpions. Aledari moved returned fire and made my saves. I moved up open fired with my 4 shots and either failed to wound or armor made saves, charged onto melee and killed 2 models with lethal hits. Surviving striking scorpion hits once, wounds, and fail my save. Next round he hits and wounds and make my saves but dice him up in the return hits.
Game 2- Death Guard vs Grey Knight- Death Guard wins roll moves up, and wounds me from bolter fire. I move up open fire and failed to wound. Death Guard stands and shot and failed to wound. I move up open fire and once again fail to wound. Death Guard stands still and opens fire again failing to wound. I open fire to no effect and then charge in to melee, killing both Plague Marines one with the Lethal Hits.
Game 3 Necrons vs Grey Knight- Necrons won dice roll off, Deathmarks stood still, Immortal moved forward. Deathmarks opened fire and one penetrated my armor but thanks to the invulnerable I shrugged it off. The gauss blaster I was not so lucky and took a wound. I moved up and opened fire, with the Necrons, taking no damage. Immortal moved back And all 3 models opened fire. No damage taken. I moved forward, opened fire and no damage was taken by the Necron player. This continued for 2 rounds until I was able to finally put a Death Mark down. Then I got into melee, I was able to hit and wound 3 times, but the Immortal tanked all 3 hits with 3 straight 5+ saves. Necrons, made their attacks and failed to inflict damage. The Necrons made their next round of attacks again failed to wound. I swung back and caused 4 hits and 4 wounds, Deathmark tanked 2 hits with a 6+ and 5+ save, and then rolled a 2 resulting in his death. Immortal's luck ran out as he rolled a 3 and died as well.
Well all 3 kiddos lost, they had fun and I think this path to continue teaching them with slow introductions. Next will be on the kill team starter board and MDF Terrain.
and the Grey Knight that did all the havoc
