  1. There's been some other talk of paint schemes and Flesh Tearer logos in a couple other places but here's an example of some primaris with a pretty straight forward recipe. Maybe a bit more highlighting than you were looking for though but it's along the same lines as what's been discussed here so far. list looks like a good start, power swords are great for us now the new codex is in effect. I have a squad of scout snipers that I run for fun some times, just don't expect them to kill much they are better at messing with your opponents mind that actually killing stuff. https://i.imgur.com/5T9Dvtb.jpg - these guys are khorne red base - nulin oil recess - highlights: mephiston red > evil suns scarlet > ushanti (spelling?) bone edge highlight.
  2. What I'm doing wouldn't fly in any official tournament or anything, but my successor chapter has their own version of the Dreadwing (possibly the entire 3rd company, but not sure on that yet). To represent that, I'm using the forgeworld Destroyer squads with jump packs as counts-as "Inceptors". It allows me to use the powerful rules of the new primaris without requiring actual primaris models and gives me rules that work really well with the fluff I've created for my successor chapter.
  3. This has been my dilemma as well. I think I'm going to do plasma and/or combi-plasma with chainswords for my vets so I can also use them as Fallen with Cypher occasionally as well, but I've still considered going more melee or at least throwing a storm shield on one for some extra protection as well.
  4. Excellent! Thank you!
  5. Hey everybody, Can the really old standard land speeder sprues without the weapon under the noise be used to make a Talonmaster or Sableclaw pretty easily as compared to the newer boxes that come with the bits to make a land speeder tornado? I'll obviously still need the bits from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue, but wasn't sure if anyone had any experience using the old land speeder models for this purpose. Thanks!
  6. Like most have pointed out, there's definitely more competitive units, better DA-specific stratagems, and even company veterans have more options. Cypher doesn't have any infiltrating shenanigans in this edition, just the ability to shoot after falling back and grants rerolls to any Fallen. Having said that, I still plan on making up some company vets / Fallen with plasma guns and/or combi-plasma and will try running a unit with Cypher in larger, friendly games and just overcharge the plasma all day with the rerolls.
  7. I really like this idea alot. This seems like the closest thing to having an actual unit like those in the Dreadwing. While they don't have the rad or phosphex grenades, they still have the dual "pistols" and can actually do some effective damage. I think I'll do 1 squad of 3 with plasma and 1 squad of 3 with the bolters.
  8. I had considered making this a Consecrators army, but Cypher has always been my favorite character in 40k (in case you couldn't tell ) and now that there's more options for Fallen, especially with how 8th edition works, allowing Cypher and Fallen units to technically be a part of a "Dark Angels" army I want them to play a part. Consecrators fit the bill other than their chapter master being one of the most effective interrogator-chaplains and a lot of the chapter being drawn into the Darkmor incident that Cypher at the very least knew something about given his presence there and successful teleportation out. Unfortunately, after the new fluff in the codex, it seems like the Fallen may actually be tipping more completely to Chaos now. While not always on the good side, I've always thought of Cypher as ultimately being an alright dude who has a bigger end goal that involves crossing lines to get there. It's all still being shaped in my head but I'm thinking of just making my own successor with little known history that Cypher has been a part of. Thus, allowing him to have insight into the movements of the parent chapter, etc, etc. Well since you mention it, yes but I've always been interested in the Dreadwing more so than the other "lost wings" since first reading about them. I should clarify that I'm not exactly shooting for an all Dreadwing army, but just trying to take a mixed-wing army that has something relative to a Dreadwing contingent. At this point all I've really got model-wise is the Betrayal at Calth box, a box of DA veterans, an attack bike, the old Cypher model, the new Cypher model, a couple of other old pewter DA veterans and a Watcher in the Dark, and then a lot of random bits. I planned on adding the Dark Talon and probably a good amount of the dark vengeance bikers and a librarian as well. So there will be more to come, but especially in the beginning it will be mostly "green wing" with a bit of Deathwing and Ravenwing added. I want it to feel very much like the original 1st Legion, but I've never really been too big on mech armies so I likely won't try to incorporate something similar to the Ironwing other than maybe dreadnoughts, the Stormwing isn't really relevant in the actual tapletop game of 40k, and we still don't know much of anything about the Firewing either to try and factor that in.
  9. Hello Unforgiven! I'm starting a new Dark Angels army that's going to be pretty heavily 30k themed (Still figuring out whether I want the backstory to be that they got trapped in the warp before or around the time everything went down on Caliban or if they're a successor that's been secretly groomed by Cypher himself since their creation. Don't worry though, they'll still be at least "not Chaos" ) . As such, I've been looking at the old wings of the 1st legion and their general ranks and titles and whatnot and I'm wondering how you all might use the units, strategems, etc in our new Codex in a fluffy way to represent the Dreadwing of old. Obviously, we don't have rules for things like rad grenades, phosphex or vortex weaponry, outside of maybe some Forgeworld tanks, but it seems at the very least some of our new strategems could be used to some degree. Initially I was hoping to find a way to just use certain units with fun weapons, but both Hellfire Shells and Orbital Bombardment would both be fluffy ways to recreate "invoking the Dreadwing protocol" and wouldn't be completely horrible. What are your thoughts?
  10. This is what gets me. I don't see any reason for him to piece together the Unforgiven's hunt for the Fallen and all that, but why would he not have tried to find out more about Cypher from Azrael? Someone wearing pre-heresy 1st Legion-esque armor, carrying what Gman knows is the Lion's sword, working with Xenos to walk right into a fortress of heretics within the Warp, then demands an audience with the big E, and then escapes from being imprisoned by the custodes (something previously unheard of)... And there's no follow up to this while Gman is in the Dark Angel's neighborhood??
  11. What are the sources of the bits about Corswain killing Luther's Cypher and Marbas invading the rock? Edited due to failing at quotes on my mobile.
  12. I don't know about the whole soul shards idea, but I could see Luther being with the Lion or heading out to find Cypher for some unknown reasons.
  13. Amazing! So happy you've gotten this all put together! Already made a list that included the Lost Brotherhood Strike Force decuruon and the Golden Host formation and it worked perfectly. Thanks again for all your hard work, brother!
  14. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread. Battlescribe is a life saver for me and your work on updating the files to have our new goodies is greatly appreciated!
