  1. I have found that Corax White is the perfect primer. It matches Ulthuan Grey almost perfectly. You can spray, then recess shade with the color of your choice. I used a very thin Russ Grey. Then clean up with Ulthuan Grey and start blending in White Scar until you have a strong edge highlight of White Scar.
  2. You might also check local stores. Some gamers may be willing to supplement their hobby with painting. This also lets you look at their work in person to ensure it’s the quality you want to pay for. The store manager may be willing to point you in the right direction, since it means more in their direction.
  3. Thanks for your help. The colors look very rich and I think I’ll pick them up and give it a try.
  4. I was watching a video from Next Level Painting for Custodes and really liked the gold that he was using. They look a lot richer than Retributor Armor. He referred to the base gold as Black Gold (the label read Negro Gold). However, when I looked at their website, I couldn’t find that color. I did see Necro Gold, but I’m not sure if it is the same. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tV6tXIWqdLc Is anyone familiar with the paints? Did they change their paint line or names? The other question, what would a good Vallejo equivalent be for their Black Gold and Dwarvem Gold? Thanks.
  5. @kilofix that’s where I’m headed, I think. I’m going to build the first two squads as one plasma and the other blight. When I add another squad, I’ll probably make it more melee.
  6. Good advice. I’ve always liked dedicated units and when I get a third box, might look into the melee unit. Right now, I’ll probably put the flail in the blight launcher unit. I should have some good blight king bits to make another icon so both units are covered.
  7. As I am just starting Death Guard, I'm trying to figure out the best load out. I have the DI contents and the easy-build models, which gives me a plasma gun and blight launcher and two champions. If I looking at two squads of 7 each, I know I'll want to build another plasma gun and blight launcher to double-up. So, with five other marines to build from one kit, what would you chose? Bear in mind, that I'm looking for more fluffy than super-competitive. Thanks for your help.
  8. Armorcast also produces a wide range of muzzle flashes and explosions, including exploding hamster rounds. http://www.armorcast.com/Cinematic-Effects
  9. Gauss blaster would look great as a real small corner or maybe a dot on the corner to mimic a shine from the light. Try a couple of spots before doing a whole squad to see if you like it because it may look like a glow. I have been using it on a few swords and the crystals on my Tzeentch bases. For power armor, you may prefer to mix the Sybarite with a little white or even mix the Gauss Blaster with the Sybarite.
  10. Looks good. The hard part will be getting behind the bolter. For future squads, consider leaving the bolter off and painting it separate. If you want to play with them while painting, you can pin them on with some poster putty. Makes me want to start putting together the Thousand Sons that are sitting in my closet. But I need to finish my Primaris first. Good luck
  11. If you thin down the blue and only use a little paint at a time, you could probably still follow the tutorial. With a this paint, you can generally use your thumb to wipe the paint off from any mistakes. It's also easier to fix any mistakes with a thin paint. You will need to use 2-3 thin coats.
  12. This. I just painted an apothecary using Duncan's video as a guide. White primer, Ulthuan Grey, shade with Russ Grey, White Scar highlight. I probably would have added another layer of an Ulthuan/Scar mix before the edge highlight. Agrax or Nuln Oil can give a different look instead of the Russ. I've been considering a Phantom army, but the white has been keeping me away. Good luck.
