"I have lost brothers, aye, and wept over their graves. Good men deserve tears to mark their passing. Even the Emperor weeps when His warriors fall. Royal thralls gather that mourning dew in blessed vials, to be treasured as relics forevermore. Regret is weakness. Guilt is weakness. But sorrow? Sorrow is a chamber in any soldier's heart. Sorrow is felt even by the divine." — High King Arucatas, Chapter Master of the Emperor's Spears "Skovakarah uhl zarûn! Skovakarah uhl zarûn!" ("Redden the earth!") - Warcry of the Emperor's Spears Hello all of you uptight snobs. I'm starting this thread here as a more Narrative log for my Emperor's Spears and unfortunately it has to go here I had always wanted to do a melee Chapter, as my Dark Angels are the "shooty" Marines. I didn't want Blood Angels or Space Wolves, as there's multiple players at my FLGSes of both of those chapters. And Black Templars... Well, My Dark Angels are painted 30k so I'm not doing two Black Space Marine armies Then I found the thread on the Emperor's Spears being written by the amazing ADB. So, after buying the Collector's Edition, and waiting until the paperback came out to properly read it (because that book felt too good for me to dirty with my grubby hands) and I safe to say, was hooked. So, I started building a force. These will be my first forays into airbrushing, as the scheme I found (from Tangui Jollivet) several months ago is an airbrushed scheme (and of COURSE his scheme is shown/explained in White Dwarf 460, but he doesn't go into detail how it's done ) The list of my force so far (Red is built, Orange is in progress (primed and progress of painting), Green is completed): Dark Imperium (sans Gravis Captain: Battleguard (Lieutenant), Battleguard (Lieutenant), Primaris Ancient, 5 Intercessors, 5 Intercessors, 3 Inceptors, 5 Hellblasters) Know no Fear (Warhost Lord in Gravis Armour, 5 Intercessors, 3 Inceptors, 5 Hellblasters) Intercessor Squad x10 (to reinforce the squad from Dark Imperium and Know no Fear) Intercessor Squad x10 Hellblaster Squad x10 Paragons (Sternguard Veterans) x5 Indomitus (Warhost Lord, Paragon Battleguard, Druid (Chaplain), Druid (Judiciar), 3 Paragons (Bladeguard Veterans), Paragon Ancient (Bladeguard Ancient), 5 Assault Intercessors, 5 Assault Intercessors, 3 Eradicators, 3 Outriders) Recruit Edition (Paragon Battleguard (converted into a Sergeant for Veteran Intercessors), 5 Assault Intercessors) Command Edition (Warhost Lord (will be converted into a Primaris Chapter Ancient), 5 Assault Intercessors, 3 Outriders) Assault Intercessors x10 Assault Intercessors x10 Gladiator Reaper Druid (Primaris Techmarine) Druid (Primaris Chaplain on Bike) Redemptor Dreadnought And here's the first painted Spear: My dropper bottles will be in next week, so I should be able to start painting them fully soon.

"Strength without wisdom breeds nothing but savagery Wisdom without strength promises nothing but extinction" Welcome all to the Elara's Veil. This is something I have wanted to do since finishing Spear of the Emperor again. I've had such a burning desire to paint my primaris space marines as Emperor's Spears. First up we have some Reivers. I decided to start painting them up because I am really looking forward to the Shadowspear box. I have yet to apply any transfers to the models I have finished thus far mostly because I don't want to run out of them. You are also going to notice a variety of bare headed marines partly because I want to represent the cultural variety of Nemeton and attempt some red tattoos on their face that will inevitably look like very strange and horrible head wounds, but also because I like the diversity they bring to the squads. The golden boltgun cases, black webbing and pouches are based on the artwork and the clear plastic layer pages (pages that layer on top of each other showing the breakdown of the armour from fully armed to a a muscled Astartes with just a loincloth) of the index Astartes. Next up with have some Intercessors with Stalker Bolt Rifles. You can just make out a my attempt at a tattoo on the marines' face. Initially I was going to mark these guys up as Paragons so they could as they tend to focus on commanders or champions being a somewhat secretive brotherhood. A common theme will be the lack of helmet crests of my sergeants, purely because I only have two lying around from my MkIII marines that I didn't use on my Thousand Sons. So it may only be the Warleader (Captain) and Battleguards (Lieutenants) that end up with crests. Now to try and keep true with the Index Astartes the Spears in that Firstborn and Primaris mix freely in a Warhost and no distinction is made between them, even going as far to fight in mixed units. Obviously rules wise harder to pull off but I wanted to add some Firstborn marines to the army. So far I have a devastator and a Vanguard veteran, with the veteran being painted up as Paragon. The inverted trident on his helmet isn't as clean as I'd like due to the crux right in the middle of it. That is everything completed or nearing completion so far. My personal favourite so far is the helmeted reiver. I am currently working on the rest of the Reivers and I am planning on finishing off my Repulsor's turret before moving onto the main hull of the tank.

I am hyped for 8th and since I've sold all my marines (three moving boxes full...) I'll have to start a new army. And that will be a primaris marine army. I love the colour scheme of the Emperor's Spears chapter, and the choice was clear when I learned that Aaron Dembski-Bowden (my favourite BL-writer) is writing a novel about them. I really hope he will flesh them out! I am not a great painter, but I am happy with the way I've found to paint them; it's fast and it looks okay. I hope you agree! I really would like to hear your critique and suggestions! I haven't decided on weathering yet... Recipe for blue (pictures below): 1. Undercoat with Army Painter Crystal Blue spray 2. Wash the whole model with 50/50 Lahmian Medium and Drakenhof Nightshade. Try to remove wash from larger "plates" with the brush to make step 3 easier. 3. Drybrush the whole model with Crystal Blue - to "clean" the smooth plates. 4. Highlight with GW Lothern Blue (vehicles are drybrushed instead and the plates are "cleaned" again with watered down Crystal Blue) 5. Fine highlight of Fenrisian Grey For White: 1. Spray white and paint all Ulthuan Grey (f.x. Helmets that I didn't glue on), or paint it up from Celestial Grey to Ulthuan Grey. Remember to water down your paints! 2. Small stuff like helmets gets an all over wash of 50/50 Lahmian Medium and Nuln Oil. Larger pieces gets the mix in the crevices. 3. Larger areas gets cleaned up with watered down Ulthuan Grey. 4. Highlight with White Scars Basing: 0. Paint all black (including stones and rocks 1. Make patches of Agrellan Earth. Not to much 1a. Drybrush rocks with Eshin Grey, Administratum Grey and lastly Ulthuan Grey (lightly) 2. Cover everything except Agrellan Earth patches and most of the stones with Stirland Mud. 3. Wash everything with Agrax Earthshade 4. Lightly drybrush everything with Steel Legion Drab 5. Lightly drybrush everything with Zandri Dust 6. Very lightly drybrush with Ushabti Bone 7. Paint some random areas with Athonian Camoshade 8. Cover many but small patches with some dark green flock. I use Woodland Scenics Fine Turf 9. Place some GW and or Army Painter tufts and turfs (f.x. Mordheim Turf and AP Swamp Tuft) 10. Paint edges with Rhinox Brown It is very fast and easy! Here's some pictures:
