Painting: Raven Guard Chapter symbol

Always been trying how to make an average looking Raven? Here's a topic that shows you step by step how I did:

 

1 : Draw a white triangle, it's the Raven's body.

2 : Add a small diamond at the bottom, it'll be the Raven's tail & claws.

3 : Back to the top of the triangle, paint a small curve to the left, it'll be the Raven's head.

4 et 5 : Draw the wings.

6 : fill them with white :

7 : Paint black lines along the wings (2 for each), a dot for the eye, a small line on each side of the diamond for the tail, another hooked pair for the claws and there you go :

It's quite a fast way to paint this symbol, it can be easily improved.

Nice work. A good way for all those RG players out there without access to decals (and handpainted symbols always give a nicer touch IMHO anyhow) to get their chapter badges on there and looking good. :blush:

Hi all,

 

I have developped a new way to paint the Raven Guard symbol :

 

Step 1 :

 

paint a white pentagon :

Step 2 :

 

On the pentagon, paint two black "6", the second, on the right, is inverted. So you'll have the head.

Step 3 :

 

Paint two black stripes on each side for the wings,

Step 4 :

 

on the lower edge of the pentagon, paint another set of two black stripes, for the tail and the claws. It must have a sort of diamond form

One suggestion for the black lines may be to try a micron pen (like what you would use for scroll work) if your hand isn't steady enough to do the line with a brush.

The fancy pants article version of this excellent tutorial! Thanks for the contribution Stahl, the painting and modelling areas of the Librarium are a little light right now, so this is a most welcome addition.
